I feel like we're in need of a "dumb-ish" android phone that isn't a flip and is instead a sliding phone. touch screens on a flip phone seem weird to me, but on one where the keypad can be out of the way, that's a winner to me.
There's like one in the US that is slide and has a chiclet qwerty keyboard. "Hit" is in the name. The price is more than what I'm willing to spend, unfortunately. But yeah those were my jam! The cliq was my favorite. Def hoping to see a 4G, GPS, nav capable one under $100 soon.

José I first want to give you such a big shoutout ! You talk a lot about companies standing behind their devices, but I, and I’m sure many others, are so grateful to have you guiding this community for the last few years. THANK YOU!!! I really agree that the best phones out there right now are the Sunbeam, the Kyocera, and the Light Phone. I’ve heard the light phone office is in NYC so I may try to stop by to see if I can chat more with the folks involved. I know there’s a new Kyocera out with a touch screen (I think it’s called the retro 2?) and it’s for sale on Kyoex and it’s supposed to be a solid Keitai. Thanks again! I think if I make the switch again, I’ll probably go for one of those three (unless there’s a miracle day when apple makes a dumbphone as iMessage is one of the frustrating things, but I know there’s a change to that happening as well). Anyway thank you for your continued coverage and very excited to see 2024!
Just ordered 2 Ghost Mode Pro's for me and my wife based off your review of them. They were the closest thing we could find to the niche we were looking for. We get to keep our normal texting experience, have a good camera, good battery life, all the basic tools like calculator/calender/notes and so on. Just zero apps or social media or browsing. They should be to us Monday, can't wait.
@@paulkonnikov395 90% like, 10% dislike after over a month of use. We love that it has the same standard smartphone/iphone shape and look. We also like how stripped down the software and features are. Battery life has been good, interface is easy to use, size/weight are good. Call clarity is great on verizon, no issues with texts except you can't send videos, only photos. The only down side to it for us is the camera. It is not the same quality we were used to from our iphones, but its way better than the flip phone or more basic dumb phone cameras. Also, while i love that it still does offer a maps/gps app, i wish it could some how be google maps. The one it has works, but doesn't have all local businesses or address preloaded, or the ability to search for everything. You have to manually enter an address some times to get somewhere, but it gets you there. The price was high, but for the very specific niche we needed, it's all there was in my opinion.
It’s definitely a tough phone. It has a small screen, but you can still do everything with android and Google like normal if you want. It’s great not to worry about it breaking and it has a keypad that is easy for people to use if they take a lot of calls or don’t care as much about the screen. It’s a pretty neat hybrid.
I didn’t like the cat s 22 simply because of its size. It’s huuuge. Feel like I’d need to start wearing a purse or a sling just to have a place to put it. Needless to say I returned it after about a week.
Feature phones or basic cell phones aren't “dumb” just because they aren't smartphones. Do people born in the 90's seriously not remember how we used to call them? They're actually a smart choice for emergencies such as when the power goes out (because a feature phone's battery lasts days), or for dopamine fasting, or for privacy.
Dear Jose, it's one week I'm using my LP2 and I can't be happier. The phone is great in its minimalism and effectiveness and LP support is second to none.
Love your videos Jose! It's amazing being able to find organized, honest opinions on these devices from someone who shares the same values about screen time management and living offline. Keep it up
Hey Jose, great you have been doing. I do have a challenge where I would like to ask for your help. I want to buy one transition phone for my mother (she has been using a dumb phone since ever), but it can't be too big as she wants something that it is pocketable (at most 4.7 x 3 inch), and dual sim. At first I though about the Cat S22 Flip, but it is single sim. From some of the reviews of the Jelly it seems its battery doesn't last a full day. So I went we curved ball, as I need whatsapp, and then see if this its something that fits all the needs. A Cubot KINGKONG MINI 2 Pro. I'm not sure if this is the best one, but if you have some tips I would appreciate it.
Jelly Star battery has improved significantly. However, I wouldn't say it's 3-4 days. More like 1-2 days. The Cubot seems like a good option. I think you can also try the Zenfone if it works in your area. They are definitely on the smaller side of the smartphones and may be helpful.
Punkt should be on this list. I love my Punkt, owned it for over a month now and its built beautifully and keeps me disconnected! I have found the perfect combination of the Cat S22 and the Punkt. I use my Cat S22 to listen to podcasts etc in the morning stays in my living room or if I go away on a trip which I just did I pop my sim from the Punkt into the Cat S22, once I get back from my trip sim goes back into the Punkt. I have decreased my overall screen time on the internet to less than an hour a day. The only time I am online is for work other than that I love the balance I have reached
Hi Jose! Thank you so much for all your work. It is a joy to see reviews around more humane and mindful tech. What’s the battery like on these I assumed that a Nokia I bought battery life would be great but when I put my 4g sim in it would drain in before the days is done and I wasn’t using the phone
Hey Jose, any word on the Nokia 110 4g 2023 being released in the US? You had mentioned it was delayed from its initial August/September release, but wanted to know if you had an updated timeframe.
Thank you for this list. Do you have any more insight on the cat flip? I’d love that phone but I keep hearing that it doesn’t work well with any network aside from T-Mobile.
I’m on day two of the lightphone coming from iPhone. so far it’s okay call quality is good, I didn’t realize how tiny it was though so the texting is really challenging for me. Hopefully it gets easier. Hot spot works well
They are not prioritizing it and not going to continue updating it. Due to that, it wasn't on the list. Until I hear something different, it is not a recommended device because all support will lack.
For the US? No. The 903KC and 902KC are the only ones that have been working reliably. I have gotten reports of the 701 series working as well, but it is only in certain areas

Hey Jose, any word on the Nokia 110 4g 2023 being released in the US? You had mentioned it was delayed from its initial August/September release, but wanted to know if you had an updated timeframe.
Delayed completely now :(
Will the IRIS Flip work with At&t?
Once unlocked it should.
Jose, thanks for everything you do. Would you consider doing a review on the agm m9? There is very little information about it online. Thanks.
Didn’t even know it was out!! I’ll check it out and get a review ready!
Thank you for this list. Do you have any more insight on the cat flip? I’d love that phone but I keep hearing that it doesn’t work well with any network aside from T-Mobile.
T-mobile is the only network I'd use the phone with personally
I’m on day two of the lightphone coming from iPhone. so far it’s okay call quality is good, I didn’t realize how tiny it was though so the texting is really challenging for me. Hopefully it gets easier. Hot spot works well
Also directions app seems not very good so far
Hey! you should review the wisephone 2
I'll probably check it out once it comes out
I was surprised that the Punkt MP02 didn’t make the list anywhere
They are not prioritizing it and not going to continue updating it. Due to that, it wasn't on the list. Until I hear something different, it is not a recommended device because all support will lack.
Thoughts on the TIQ Mini Q5? That one stood out for me the most
Good phone. The only fault is the charger. It's a bit cumbersome, but if it ticks your needs, it is a good phone!
Do you recommend any other flip phones from Japan?
For the US? No. The 903KC and 902KC are the only ones that have been working reliably. I have gotten reports of the 701 series working as well, but it is only in certain areas
Nice
Do you have a video about the apple config?
I do not, but the reddit post I linked in the description does have a video that someone else made. It's pretty well done :)
@@JoseBriones Thanks!
Can I get a hoonyaaa?
Thank you thank you Jose!
Yat😮😅😅
Jose, we need you to look at the camera :D
