    So what are your thoughts on Boox Palma? Would you switch to an eInk phone (if a good one existed)?
    You can help me out by tapping the like button on this video (it helps a ton with the algorithm)

      It's too bad that Yotaphone went bankrupt I think a double sided OLED/Eink phone is a great idea.
      I'm interested in this device but really what I dream of is a eink display that connects to your phone via bluetooth and mirrors its display for reading. This would potentially both save costs and mean that you rarely need to upgrade it will continue to work with new phones as you upgrade that.

    For the love of god, why don’t these companies launch two devices? One designed for the parents and one designed for the children both with cellular connection so your child doesn’t need to have a smart phone they can have an ereader and read all their favourites mid or early childhood books and you can call them or they can call you in an emergency. It’s a massive massive massive marketing opportunity totally being missed

    I went the Apple Watch as a Phone route for less distraction. I love it but there were a few things that were missing. (A) Public library apps find it hard pressed to do Audible when I can get the same books for free (b) Does not Bluetooth to my car.
    This is PRECISELY what Ive been wanting for a less distracting portable media experience. This combined with my Apple Watch my phone wont leave the drawer.

    I'd like to hear about the real-world battery life on this, with normal backlight settings and reading as the primary activity. I have an old Kindle that is starting to annoy me with utterly random battery life, and while I can read on my phone (and often do) having a nice backlit e-Ink is just so superior. This is really interesting but if it still needs charging every couple days, it's not enough of a step up.

    Great video - I think the thing keeping me from getting a 'dumb phone' is that I love taking and sharing photos. I've tried carrying round a point-and-shoot but as I work in design and am constantly sending images to clients - the smartphone is just so much more efficient. I want to see a camera-phone that is more camera than phone basically.

    I wonder if they'll ever make an e-ink screen with an *_'area screen refresh?'_*
    What I mean is... not refresh the parts of a screen that haven't changed but only areas that have, such as a RUclips video that isn't being viewed full screen while leaving the rest of the screen unchanged. Now that would save even more battery power if it could be implemented.
    Interesting product which no doubt will add a colour screen in the not too distant future.

    • @BrandonKBoswell
      @BrandonKBoswell  Год назад +1

      I would think they could do that with their GPUs.
      Regarding color, I think they would probably have battery life issues at this form-factor. The Tab Ultra C sucks battery way more than the other devices I have.

  • @lynnbernardi
    @lynnbernardi Год назад +14

    I have zero desire for an e-ink phone, but if this thing had a built-in stylus and the ability to handwrite lists, I'd own one already. That said, I'm still super tempted. The specs look way better than the InkPalms. (Have you tried an InkPalm? If it's just being used as a super small reading device maybe the specs on it are okay?)
    I'm going to purchase an e-ink device (or two) of some kind this year. However, as someone that's been using an iphone since Gen 1 and macs at home and work, I'm struggling to understand the ecosystem. I'm a total android newb. Perhaps this would be a good video topic? For example, is there any way to sync Boox devices to each other - like say if I picked up a Palma and a Tab Ultra C/ Note Air 2 Plus? I'm interested in being able to at least view those notes on an ipad/mac as well. What are my options? Are there third party software solutions that will allow Boox devices to play nice with apple devices? If I put a to-do list together on a larger device will it sync automatically so it's on the Palma if I carry that one around? Does the Palma on screen keyboard (I assume there is one?) work decently enough to jot down quick lists? I likely have ADHD and I just really need some kind of list taking and note taking device that is dumb enough that I won't be constantly pulled into distractions like I am with an iphone/ipad/computer. I like writing things down by hand because I find that really helps with retention and as a creative, analog-flavored tools also tend to work better for me.

My minimum needs for a low distraction device would be : text, phone, maps, music, chatgpt. Everything else I can do with my tablet when I need to. Mainly I want the browser, email, all that stuff gone from my phone. I want a simple phone with great maps, music, and chatgpt so I can find stuff out but not get drawn into the web.

    Great review, especially the part about Readwise Reader. My question is can you highlight and annotate Reader articles - and are these highlights and annotations saved in Readwise?

    Hi, do you still have the Palma and use it? I've been reading of folks having issues with it.

      Still using it. It has a few nicks in it after a year, but is still working well.

    Excellent video! I'm actually interested in buying this device to use for taking notes in Obsidian. I see you also installed Obsidian on your Boox Palma. What is the note taking experience? And have you used an external bluetooth keyboard with the Boox Palma? I plan on combining the Palma with a Nuphy Air 75, for anywhere writing and note-taking without straining my eyes with an LCD screen.

      No writing input on the Palma, but should work fine with an external keyboard like the Nuphy.

      @BrandonKBoswell do you think it'd be good for audiobooks? I have a scribe and find it inconvenient

    Looks more portable than kindle .
    But To be honest its not recommended to read in such tiny device. Will damage the eyes In long run.
    Better to use a kindle.

      Super portable. I wasn't familiar with small devices causing eye damage. Do you have more info on this?

      That’s a good question for Boox, but honestly this is probably too small to be good for writing anything.

      That would be perfect for me too! Unfortunately probably not enough demand amongst the general population to make it happen though.
