Reilly again and again is unable to check journeymen forwards on the left side.
He handles the puck well on the power play and so forth as this is his strength.
Someone who handles the puck well usually has a shorter stick and I noticed that Reilly's stick is extremely short for reaching out and checking someone. Great defense men in the past Scott Stevens...Savard...Lapointe all had much longer sticks than Reilly. Perhaps he should compromise use a shorter stick for PP and and a touch longer even strength. Just a thought from a formed Bantam AAA coach. Players of his status usually do not listen to NHL coaches let alone me, so I'm sure my observations are for nothing and he will continue to hurt the Leafs defensively.
# 44 was on the Ice for all 4 Goals that Ottawa scored. Same old crap with rewarding Players with more Icetime for failure.

@@Heaveaway23 last time they played (on a Tuesday I think) it was $122 for a selfie ticket in the bowl (which I bought a week before hand). This time (also not a weekend game), the tickets have been $250+ (non scalped) for the 300s and I've been checking since the season started.

Leafs needs a real head coach
More fumbles by Mathews that leads to goal against (both first 2 goals for the Sens.). He often causes turn overs that leads to goals for the other team. I've watched every replay of the Leafs for the past 4-5 years and he often seem to loose the puck leaving the defense very exposed. It's hard to justify his insane salary in my opinion. Until the Leafs at least get to a Stanley Cup final... I'll consider him overpaid!
He's WAAAY overpaid. I wouldn't pay him half of what he get. That would be such a waste! 🤣

You only see the replays, maybe that's why. He does a lot on the ice other than the goals. Yes he commits mistakes, but he is always active, and helps a whole lot on both ends of the ice.
Today a lot of guys didn't play well, and Sens were extremely effective on pass interception and blocked shots. Their goalie played really well too.

When Toronto's top 4 players are collectively -9, you can expect results like this. EVERYONE'S going gaga over Mathews 28 goals and 42 points in 31 games, but he's only +4. He shoots the puck and is a goal scoring machine but that is it. He doesn't rag the puck, use his big frame to punish anyone and he doesn't care about defending. He is blessed Marner is on his line assisting on 40% of his goals. I really don't think the big lug cares enough.

Did you see the sour expression on the Senator coach's face after the Leafs scored those two goals in the first period? Turns out that sour expression wasn't as bad after all as the Leaf's sloppy playing in the second and third periods. I keep saying: Leafs sleep at home, not on the job. Now I'm a Leaf fan but it seems only the Senators listened to my plea; they slept at home and capitalized on the Leaf's snoozing.
Matthews stopped trying after they took his goal from him and the rest of the team follows his every move, which is why they're no successful in the playoffs. Matthews doesn't actually care about winning and puts little effort of emotion in the playoffs

So frustrating. Leafs are almost synonymous with losing games they should've won this year. I know it's not a new criticism to say that the Leafs play down to their competition; and teams at the bottom of the standings seem to hand them humble pie more often than not for it.

Tbh idk what is wrong with the Leafs they have a roster packed with stars like Matthews, Marner, Nylander etc but they just can't make wins happen against the easy teams like they literally lost 9-3 against the sabres their roster is better than the good teams as well (in my opinion) for example, the Leafs are supposed to be one of the best teams this season, but they can't win properly the other good teams like the rangers or canucks can comfortably win against the bad teams.
