    "...everyone kept two or three fingers in the last few choices just in case things got ugly." SO RELATABLE. Some of the bad endings in those books were *brutal* and have haunted me for years.
    And good lord my sister and I would have killed to have this kind of program when we were kids in the '80s, trying to make our own CYOA books by folding typing paper in half and writing out stories by hand. Thanks for sharing this!

    I only came here cus of searching about Twine, but I'm staying for the art style. I love your work! (Somehow it feels nostalgic to look at, dunno why. Or maybe it's your storytelling!)

      Thanks a lot! I learned to draw on the forgotten times of DeviantArt was still a thing and when webcomics were just starting so yes, It can very well be nostalgia for the long lost internet before social networks.

    Ok this is the most exciting video I have seen in ages. its an open source project, runs from a browser and you can make interactive comics? Oh I'm so trying this!!!

    • @JCRandom
      @JCRandom  3 года назад +11

      Thanks for the comment! Yeap, everything is free and rather easy to put together. The ONLY thing that might be slightly complicated (at least on the version I was using last year when I made mine) is to embed images which had to be using html code. There was no convenient INSERT IMAGE button yet. But even that is just a matter of using tags and putting the image files on the same folder as the interactive book so it's not that bad.
      And for publishing (with images and everything) itch.io is fantastic, just upload all your stuff in a single ZIP file, and if your main file is named index.html, everything just works instantly on the web, for free and not having to deal with nonsense like hosting.
      It's quite appealing!

    Your twine comic looks amazing, how did u learn to format it was that done in sugar cube? I’m learning harlowe cause it seems the easiest but to do what you did I think I’d need to learn to code a little 😅 ?

    • @JCRandom
      @JCRandom  Год назад

      I used "Chapbook" since back then it's layout looked very similar to the Choose-your-adventure books. The other formats were way better in terms of options and things you could do, but since my story was very simple I went for looks over functionality. And yes, knowing a bit of html and css is always useful when it comes to Twine, since twine stories are just fancy webpages. All the buttons colors and other special formatting was done using CSS, which is not that complicated.

    I don't get how you added the art to the pages though. Do you just paste images into the text box for a page after creating it?

    • @JCRandom
      @JCRandom  2 года назад +2

      It depends on the story format you are using, but in SugarCube you can add html tags like , and put image.jpg on the same folder as the html file that twine exports. Or directly link to an image on the internet.
      I used Chapbook, which didn´t have that many html options but it uses embed codes like this one: {embed image: 'cave.jpeg', alt: 'Cave entrance'}, and that will place "cave.jpeg" (which can be any image on the internet) in that page. Here is the details of how to do it on chapbook: klembot.github.io/chapbook/guide/multimedia/images.html
      I used chapbook because I liked the layout which was very clean and very similar to and ordinary ebook-like, but if it comes to ease of use and options, I would go with any other format, probably the latest version of SugarCube. It does need a bit of html knowledge, but its quite simple to copy/paste from the manuals, just like I copied all the embed instructions from the chapbook guide.
