    I have to say Thankyou Sir. You are very good to share your journey in the forge, all the while teaching as we go. My daughter, son and myself together started watching your videos and sharing in the learning. You've given our family something great. God bless.

    I’ve been subscribed to your channel a long time. You barely had any subscribers. I haven’t seen a video from you in probably a year. I had the bell checked. This video just popped up today. And the bell was unchecked. Good to see you’re still making knives

    Thanks for sharing it's a very nice looking knife. My goal this year is to get better at making handles for the knives I forge. I appreciate the fact that you included the handle making process in this video. Keep up the good work.

      @@theriversexperience9383 Your welcome. I can relate to being economical with the good steel. If I am trying something new I will start out by using a lesser grade of steel to get a general idea on how much i need and see if what I want to try will work out, more or less. The old blacksmith that taught me many years ago shared that helpful tip.

    For a while I made a heap of these little kitchen cleavers in a more traditional square shape but rather than a bone-cutting geometry I gave them a pretty thin edge. Sold them as cheese and herb cutters and a lot of the older folks with arthritis liked them because it kept their knuckles clear of the board and were easier to use than a paring knife for some jobs and you can scoop right off the board to the prep bowl. At the moment working on some big old honking chinese chefs knives which some people consider cleavers but they're really not, some of my favourite things to make though because there's a heap of cheap, mass produced crappy ones out there and good hand made ones get moving for people who know what they like.

    I'm 4th season hobbyists BlackSmith and do fair my biggest problem is warpage steel after the quenching. Any suggestions.
    I already noticed you are fair with the hammer.
    I'm falvoring the rounding and 45 degree peen as 45 saveing this 71 year old a extra step working my pein.
    Don't like the vice for sanding for I just made a knife vice.
    You do great work.
    I started to build a cleaver using a file as the hard steel for the edge of the blade little welding involved.
    Thanks for your teaching Sir

    Hay thanks about telling about the 1x30 fine belt set with leather strop testing it and less effort to get the scary sharp edges and they are scary I'm cutting paper with almost no resistance slicing with no effort.
    Thanks for teaching

    It’s gorgeous, I love the flow, that handle is amazing. It is such a versatile looking profile as well. I was in restaurants for 25 years and I am digging on these builds. What is it about 5160 that you prefer? I am just building my 1st full knife, I did just handles for a bit. Got a little 2 brick forge built and it’s on lol.

      @theriversexperience9383  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Victor! The edge retention on this particular 5160 has been absolutely amazing on all the builds that I've used it on. You can beet the heck out of it and it will still be razor sharp.

  • @Vaz_DeFerenz
    @Vaz_DeFerenz Год назад +1

    you can get 5160 from pretty much any leaf or coil spring.. and ide venture to say that any steel chrysler uses would be inferior 😂😂

    Can you do a seax, but not like the stereotypical “Viking” seax more like a traditional Anglo-Saxon seax. I like the ones on Worthing Theaters and Museum’s Archaeology Unlocked video and Phil Baumhardts Royal Ontario Museum video. Maybe a reproduction would be a cool project.
