    Déjeuner du matin
    Il a mis le café
    Dans la tasse
    Il a mis le lait
    Dans la tasse de café
    Il a mis le sucre
    Dans le café au lait
    Avec la petite cuiller
    Il a tourné
Il a bu le café au lait
Et il a reposé la tasse
    Sans me parler
    Il a allumé
    Une cigarette
    Il a fait des ronds
    Avec la fumée
    Il a mis les cendres
    Dans le cendrier
    Sans me parler
    Sans me regarder
    Il s'est levé
    Il a mis
    Son chapeau sur sa tête
Il a mis son manteau de pluie
    Parce qu'il pleuvait
    Et il est parti
    Sous la pluie
    Sans une parole
    Sans me regarder
    Et moi j'ai pris
    Ma tête dans ma main
    Et j'ai pleuré

I always imagined the man in a cafe and the woman watching him without him noticing or looking at her. I like this interpretation as well.

+Cris Tikfesi actually the poem doesn't even say it's a woman nor anything. There are so many interpretations possible, that's the beauty of that poem.

Saw this in my french class and I love it! :D Since I saw this video before reading the poem, I first got the impression that she had cheated on him or hurt him in an emotional way and that's why he didn't want to look at her. However, reading the poem I got a sense of loneliness and rejection. Regardless of the interpretations, beautiful video and I love the music!

Long ago, in 1981, being in 7th grade, I have translated this poem from French into Russian for the school district competition in Moscow. My translation got the first place and the "best translation" resolution. I was extremely happy! I love this poem, I still remember it word by word in both languages. This short film reminded me of emotions I felt reading this poem and translating it. I have recited it in my head as I wached it. Even the rythm of the movie fits! Merci bien, Emmanuel ! Votre travail est merveilleux !

Wow! Incredible film here. I watched it in my French class and I loved it and all its symbolism. I haven’t read the poem yet, but the film was so expressive and really very incredible. No doubt, the music that accompanied the film made it even better. I loved it! It is so emotional, in such a short, but beautiful way!

This short it's really great, but I think it would had been much better without the music before the man leaves, but having instead the sound effects of the cigarette and coffee falling into the cup and the movements of the actors. I mean, I consider it would been more intense not with an absolute silence, but just with a natural sounding. I rewatched the video on mute and I thought it was way more beautiful like that as I imagined the sounds of every action. Anyway, a very good job!

I write poetry and I do not understand it, is this a mime that is supposed to mimic the words?
I have not seen the words, there is no voice or commentary.
Is this only for fans of Jacques Prevert?
    Je ne comprends pas. Pardon.
This is an interpretation, but surely to pay homage, the poem should be narrated or sang, mais oui, mais non?

    • @EmmanuelTenenbaum
      @EmmanuelTenenbaum  6 лет назад +1

Stuart, no need to apologize here. The poem is well-known in France, and often taught to kids or students learning French. It's not for me to say whether you should know it to enjoy the film or not, but I can imagine it is the case for a lot of people. The words are in the description.
