What I don't get is that even when they started to think there might actually be a fuel leak bc the tanks were so low, they STILL didn't turn off the crossfeed. It seems like it should've been SO obvious to do that.
This was very interesting. The pilots did declare a fuel emergency unlike Avianca. They also got their airplane safely on the ground. Kudos to the flight crew. Well done.

Though the pilots did a great job landing, the events leading up to the crash was not handled properly at all. I’m not a pilot and still would have known to shut off the cross feed if the other tank was not filling up. The plane can run on one engine at least then none at all. The captain kept stating it’s a computer error and brushed it off, when carrying 300+ passengers why take the chance, proceed with an emergency landing. The first officer kept going over the calculations and yes the fuel was decreasing, that should have been more than enough to declare an emergency.
Pilots are also clearly at fault. You shouldn't just assume the computers are faulty for no reason. I doubt computer faults are an everyday occurrence for them. And if the computers are faulty then you need to land immediately anyway.

It's hard for me to blame the pilots. It might be helpful to install lighting on both sides of the aircraft that would do a much better job of illuminating a fuel leak than would a flashlight through a passenger window.
It's the fault of pilots as well, clearly. Why didn't they trust the computer showing them data? Sorry but in 9/10 cases the computer knows better than a human.
Also, it's mentioned that the high oil pressure was indicative of fuel possibly leaking into and mixing with the oil. It might be that it's making it less viscous, and thus causing it to require greater pressure to force enough lubrication through.

The pilots were being given awards and whatnot for managing to land the plane with no injuries to the passengers or crew and having that "longest glide without fuel" or whatever.
