That's not Country , it's Western Swing like Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys . There is a difference. You are right though that is how it's played boys...
LOVE IT LOVE IT.When I was a kid, before we had tv I used to hear this on WCKY Cincinnati at night and dream of playing guitar. Thanks Dave brings back memories of an innocent time of my life.
These two are in there element that's for sure. Talent on loan from God. Nothing like true pro's to put it down like that. A absolute pleasure to hear and feel. Close your eyes and fall into the deep soul of the tune. It's like a living breathing being Anyhoo. Gentlemen the honor is mine and I thank you. You made my day a whole lot happier and just better thank you for what you do. Thanks for sharing later my brothers be safe and peace to all
These guys play the best version of these songs, I've listened to the others they just don't have the same sound and feel. Thanks guys. God bless peace my brothers. Keep on jamming. Thanks again boys.
Great tune, When I was a kid here in Kentucky I used to hear this on a radio trucker show late at night. It was a thrill to hear those notes and put a desire in my heart to play too. Learned to play guitar later in life.
Aww how superb you guys were playing your instruments together, music of our age group - from late 50's to 60's n 70's. John Stannard playing touches of Les Paul - so so awesome Thank You for the Memories, just love it.
Just fantastic! You guys are GREAT. Reminds me of going to country shows in the 70's when country music was country. Sounds just great. I could listen to you all day. Greetings from Pennsylvania.
You both obviously love the music and those two instruments like so many of us do. Thanks for sharing guys and all the very best to you as you bring some joy to this world!
This is when John lost weight. Unfortunately, it came back and did him in. I have the same problem. Weight gain, weight loss, weight gain even more. I am trying to work with a physician to work it back off. Minus 5 pounds now from my recent top. David and John were two peas in a pod, perfect together. At least we have a number of great videos we can still watch of them performing on RUclips.
how's it going? we need more people like dave! after hearing many different steel players i think the most difficult thing is to be strictly in time. due to all the effects and bending and transforming there's often a slight lag and the player has to be somewhat a tiny bit ahead. dave is always spot on that's why it always sounds so sharp and precise. at least that's what i as non-pro think what's going on.
@rustyguitar1, IF,,, a person can't walk, chew gum, pat your head, rug your stomach and sing the National Anthem (in perfect key!)... All at the Same Time....... forget about the Pedal Steel!! LOL ; ) How is your PS learning going for you, 11 years later? I'm in the same category as you... bass player 🎸, but never even contemplated the pedal steel and am self learning the Lap / Console steel, instead. The reason being... I'm in my early "later" years (just retired.. kinda), now... and figure I probably do not have enough years left to get proficient on the Pedal steel.... so I've chosen to eliminate 4 of the 6 points of separate co-ordination (knee's & feet), and just stick with 2 hands.... and whatever is left of my brain cells... and it's still a "chore" (but, Fun!) to learn. : ) PS; Just recently (Oct.2023) picked up a high end range/"beginners" Mandolin, to learn as well... now that my Lap & Console Steel playing has graduated from "shrill noise" to actually starting to sound "Like" music. Enjoy, and have fun!
Thanks you guys always just male my day go that much better. You serve humanity in a way most people won't ever truly understand. Thanks for sharing later my brothers peace to you and yours God bless us all. everyone.
a great pair of pickers You tell how well by the way they blend so well.Love all your work! So sorry to here of Johns Passing. Must be a great loss to you David.
All I know is you guys are some of the best country pickers I have heard working together. I love the style you guys have and the chemistry... Wish I could jam with you!
This is the tune I was looking for back there in 2008 ( I think ) when I first stumbled across Dave and his pedal steel.............Astonished is the best word to describe what I found.
Dave, when I hear you play my favourite Steel Guitar Rag, I want to burn my guitar! It was the theme song in the band I played in for years. I am glad they didn't have internet back then.
The gentleman on electric guitar is very good as well...I love this display of good talent...I pick a bit...I want to pick like the electric guitar picker...dang-it-all!!!
How nice of you to play one of my favorites for my birthday...Nov.10th! Thanks! I like to play this tune on my Lowrey Stardust using the steel guitar sound.
Fantastic! My daddy used to play this on his Jag, just plumb ate it up! 😁💖 The man playing the red electric guitar has the same picking style as my dad, sigh....😘💖
My dad did a recording of this back in the 50’s. I was glad to hear this. Our dads probably know each other. His name is Bud Isaacs. Google him. He was quite the artist.
So fine.....I just bought a 'student' 10 string pedal steel and after seeing just how hard lap steel was, it multiplied the difficulty about 10 fold! This was a great performance! John's standard guitar was sweet and perfect too!
Thank you for commenting on my Steel guitar Rag video. John the tele player is using a Fox Vintage Amp and I am using Telonics Amp and PreAmp in the rack case sitting next to my steel. It's a Peterson stroborack filling the third section of my rack case. The The Fox amp is miked up, and the steel is a direct from preamp recording although I am playing through two 15" Evans cabs. It's a live recording and we are monitoring the backing track through two Martin Audio ICT500 speakers..Very Loudly!
THANK YOU! I've been tripping over sites of 'versions' of this song and knew that when I came to your site it would be a nice way to rinse out my ears! Quality production. Had the pleasure of meeting Leon back in the summer of '88 at Claremore State College where he ran the School of Country Music. I think he would be a fan of your work, too. Even if ya do talk funny! Cheers!
Hey from North Carolina.....I love watching your videos. I subscribe. I would like to know what your musical backgrounds cover. More biography stuff. Please indulge a fan and tell your stories. Thanks.
You lads are seriously getting 'some blessed good'! That's fine, well-controlled playing on both your parts. Nice blend, good mix, and well articulated playing. I'm proud of you both. How about an old-timey gospel tune one of these times soon? God Bless, Bro. Charles
It's deadly good, brothers. I recorded this song on my first album, where I played all the instruments, including a lap steel which I myself built. My version is not exactly "chop heavy" which I think yours is! I still think mine has magic, but sometimes I wonder where I got the balls to track my version... if you wanna hear mine for kicks, kick me back.
I have heard this many +times but never like this! you guys are great.greetings from the u.s.a. this is the 1st time I have you guys play together!!! you are GOOD!!!!!!!!!!
Great job by both. That's how country is played boys!
That's not Country , it's Western Swing like Bob Wills & his Texas Playboys . There is a difference. You are right though that is how it's played boys...
@@paullevine1813 Western Swing is a Country sub-genre, so it is most definitely Country.

The best I have heard in a long time. They just do not play music like this anymore in today's world.
Fantastic talent.
Great tune, When I was a kid here in Kentucky I used to hear this on a radio trucker show late at night. It was a thrill to hear those notes and put a desire in my heart to play too. Learned to play guitar later in life.
RIP John Stannard. What a great guitarist gone. 😥
😔😔😔
Aww how superb you guys were playing your instruments together, music of our age group - from late 50's to 60's n 70's. John Stannard playing touches of Les Paul - so so awesome Thank You for the Memories, just love it.

You mean they weren't born and raised in Nashville???
A truly exceptional version of this famous country song. Greetings from Italy.
Im a bass player trying to learn steel guitar. After listening to you I want to work that much harder to learn how to play steel!
how's it going? we need more people like dave! after hearing many different steel players i think the most difficult thing is to be strictly in time. due to all the effects and bending and transforming there's often a slight lag and the player has to be somewhat a tiny bit ahead. dave is always spot on that's why it always sounds so sharp and precise. at least that's what i as non-pro think what's going on.
god much more steel plz hehe (:O)
They actually compliment each other well; playing harmonies and small runs. Probably my favorite two instruments
