It's a pretty truck. What's its purpose? It has a terrible payload. The hybrid has a lot more torque, yet doesn't tow more. The hybrid fuel economy sucks. The price is insane. I'm scratching my head. What. Is. The. Point? The Nissan Frontier seems to be the only midsize truck on the market with a level head on its shoulders. A naturally aspirated V6, 6ft bed, and the availability of a King Cab. So many stupid people on here pissing and moaning about the price of these trucks. You all asked for a better Tacoma with more power, options and features. Toyota gave them to you and guess what? It cost money to add suspension seats, larger screens, quick adjust shocks, turbos, electric motors, and batteries. Anyone who compares the value of these new premium trucks to the previous gen is a fool. Yes it is expensive but it’s Apples to walnuts.
Still on the fence. I think I'll keep my third gen for a while longer. Debating on buying a previous gen Tundra or a new Tacoma or Tundra. It's not an easy decision as I have a vehicle addiction problem and don't usually keep them more than a few years anyway. If I bought an older Tundra, that wouldean I was committed to keeping it for as long as absolutely possible. I don't think I could do that.
Bummer, I was hoping for at least 28mpg, getting the Chevy 3.0, same cost more torque better fuel millage, twice the towing. I would have gone for less power and towing if fuel millage was better.
A Hybrid should be able to get over 30 MPG in combined driving. Heck the Full Sized Grand Highlander hybrid can get 36 mpg . Toyota really messed up here.
Is Toyota getting greedy? The manufacturing cost has gone down as these are now made in Mexico. The price has gone up quite a bit. So, is it profits before people now? Yes, these are great trucks that have yet to prove themselves as far as reliability. But where do we go from here. In 5 years' time, these will be 100K trucks if we continue this trend. Just food for thought.

Drive in a city, 0-50 on and off all day. Compare that to a non hybid . Thats where they shine. Compare it one day . Gas versus hybrid in the city. Just do it .
@robertrousseaux1059 I did the comparison. I used an online gas vs. hybrid vehicle savings calculator. The common parameters I used were 12,000 miles per year and $3.65/gallon (national average as of today as reported by AAA). For the gas vehicle, I used the city mpg specs for the 2024 Tacoma Limited 4WD, which was 20 mpg as shown on Toyota's website. For the hybrid vehicle, I used the city mpg specs for the 2024 Tacoma Limited Hybrid 4WD, which was 23 mpg as shown on Toyota's website.. I used the base MSRP for both vehicles as shown on Toyota's website, which were $52,100 for the non-hybrid and $55,800 for the hybrid. The break even point where the gas savings of the hybrid equalled that of the extra price of the hybrid was 13 years. Most people don’t keep a vehicle that long. I'm all for hybrids, but there's just not much advantage here from a purely fuel economy standpoint for the Tacoma. That seems to be the case of most hybrids that use a longitudinally mounted setup with a traditional stepped gear transmission. They just don't get the huge efficiency gains of the planetary gearset with CVT hybrid setups such as in the Toyota Prius, Ford Maverick, etc.

24 mpg hybrid.. what’s the point?
I just don’t understand the point of an expensive, heavy hybrid that doesn’t improve fuel economy, and only makes up for the shortcomings of a small turbo-4. Shortcomings that wouldn’t exist for a v6.
Perfectly valid argument if you don't actually look at the numbers for them "shortcomings".
Did you delete your comment cuz you realize you dum?
In Canada the trailhunter is 96k I don't know where Toyota is getting their pricing from but I think they all have some recent brain damage.
Way too expensive this is the result of asking for more technology And features👏👏👏 now people can’t afford it that’s genius
U mean the poor and middle class can’t , don’t speak for everyone now 😂
Toyota weeding out the pretenders and therefore helping people stay out of debt 😂
you can get a full size ram classic 1500 , for only 43,000 dollars, and get 24 MPG,
and V 6 motor
damn Toyota... may have to seriously consider the Lexus GX550 Overtrail at these prices, especially considering the unbelievable costs of the TRD pro and Trailhunter models... wow. I also expect 2025 4Runners to fall into the same price ranges as well
24 mpg is a joke. The cost of a full electric, during the lifetime of the truck, will be a fraction of this one. Truck and fleet drivers know it. Most look at the initial cost; it's the ultimate lifetime cost that matters.
Price $56,225.00
Bro, can you help me see if there is a secret space in the bottom of the centre console?
So does the hybrid make a noticeable difference while driving on road?
Considering it only gets 24 MPG combined, not for the money. Just get the Colorado you’ll get the same MPG cheaper.

Great point: It should be more geared for efficiency. Otherwise, why hybrid?
Probably because efficiency really don't sell trucks.
I thought the point of a hybrid was to get better MPG?
Hope that volume knob doesn't break as easy as the Tundra? We have a lot of reports of this knob cracking off eastly.
well it is lies, they DON'T break

I see no way I could rationalize buying this.
If it had great mileage, maybe.
Unaffordable......

Tacoma Hybrid review, where Andre and Roman were stalking and sheep were worried!
I wonder what the gas mileage is for non hybrid vs hybrid when towing a trailer. That would be an important piece of information. Maybe you can do an MPG loop using Blueberry and one of those hybrid Tacomas towing the same trailer?
24 mpg?!?!?! Are u serious.

whats that dog poop scooper installed in front?
It's a pretty truck. What's its purpose? It has a terrible payload. The hybrid has a lot more torque, yet doesn't tow more. The hybrid fuel economy sucks. The price is insane. I'm scratching my head. What. Is. The. Point? The Nissan Frontier seems to be the only midsize truck on the market with a level head on its shoulders. A naturally aspirated V6, 6ft bed, and the availability of a King Cab. Tacoma has become a "lifestyle vehicle" rather than an actual pickup truck. If you like driving a truck but don't really NEED a truck, and if you want hybrid fuel economy, the Ford Maverick makes a hell of a lot more sense than this Tacoma Hybrid.
The Frontier reliability sucks it no Toyota substitute.
@@theoutdoordad7395 the 2023 Frontier was rated half a point higher for reliability over the Tacoma by RepairPal. Plus, the Frontier has a 26yr track record of excellent reliability and better value.
Bingo! Lifestyle vehicle. You need this truck with a roof top tent or you are not cool and your IG will suck. Haha
The frontier is direct injection only they had to screw it up somehow. Idiots.
Only mall crawlers can afford the higher end! 😂
Oh no i forgot the name of the truck i was driving....whew !...its in GIANT letters on the dash !................C@NT TOYOTA !

Not impressive mileage. Don't like the large tablet style screen. Not integrated into dash. Self closing tailgate is cool.
Never thought I’d see the day when the Tacoma cost more than a tundra
2015 TRD Pro was more expensive than a 2015 Tundra SR5 Double Cab 5.7 4wd.
I like it, but doubt the Hybrid is worth the extra $. What I really want is a 1794 Tacoma with black trim, not chrome, full time 4wd like the Limited (& Landcruiser) and saddle brown leather seats! 🔥
Just get a Stout
30K
My ICE Forester gets way better gas mileage and its non hybrid. This is embarassing numbers

There is a 1794 here at the dealer for 8k off msrp. Brings the total down to $62k. Has the saddle brown interior and the copper brown exterior. It's truly beautiful. The dealer is Penske Toyota in Surprise, Arizona. No black trim, has the chrome. But it looks amazing
Agree completely
Beautiful truck! Thank you for the video.
Glad you liked it!
That awesome 4x4 system should break easy with that torque number
I come back to TFL vids now and then and am constantly turned off by Roman's negative outlook on nearly everything.
Blueberry got over 24mpg hwy on your loop test. The Hybrid should perform even better. Toyota is low balling in to CYA themselves. Great Vid guys!
Why would they make the hybrid for towing if you can't tow more?
Why would they make it at all??? DON"T BUY THIS TURDBO
I don't think Toyota anything in 2024 is worth the extra money :(
Is Toyota getting greedy? The manufacturing cost has gone down as these are now made in Mexico. The price has gone up quite a bit. So, is it profits before people now? Yes, these are great trucks that have yet to prove themselves as far as reliability. But where do we go from here. In 5 years' time, these will be 100K trucks if we continue this trend. Just food for thought.
Just buy a Frontier while you can, Pro4X fully loaded v6 22mpg 46,390 out the door
Not a Toyota 😂
ain’t that crazy? a NA V6 with almost the same MPG at a buzzy hybrid 4 banger lol. toyota has lost their way big time
And you can actually tolerate the seats for longer than a 5 minute ride 😂
Wow only getting a few mpg more for how much more $$$, 25k of gas is alot of gas
How that truck doesn't get at least 30 mpg with all that is ridiculous.
It cost more, doesn’t tow more, has less payload, isn’t much more fuel efficient, and it is way more complex. It’s hard to see upside.
My 2020 TRD Sport 4x4 access cab 6-speed manual Tacoma V6 I paid at $32,475 out the door laughs at this super over priced POS! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
how does one keep the batteries cooled ?
They have a built in fan.
thanks was wondering about that but still see no need for a hybrid system do like fords F150 power boost on board generator
Going with non hybrid after seeing performance isn't much better. Plus only 6ft bed in hybrid is trailhunter can't afford that. Thanks for sharing
Is this true? You can’t get a TRD Sport with hybrid and 6’ bed? That is unfortunate if it’s true since the range is also compromised without the hybrid option.
@@richardschmidt5865 yes for sure. I'm looking now for a 6ft bed non hybrid. Hybrid has been tested and not much improved performance only a couple more mpg. Totally disappointing hybrid
I saw that in the press release from Toyota. Feels like a huge miss. 6' bed is the best!
Does it need premium fuel?
You guys keep talking about efficiency while reviewing trucks, this is a heavy machine not a Camry.
TOYOTA should have given this hybrid Tacoma a bigger battery and a small engine to charge the battery when needed for a lot better efficiency and range but they chose to do it the other way around, which is what we have now, time will tell if this was the right choice for trucks.
Nice 4x4 Camry!
Drive in a city, 0-50 on and off all day. Compare that to a non hybid . Thats where they shine. Compare it one day . Gas versus hybrid in the city.
Just do it .
Most people aren’t buying pickups to drive in the city. Esp a TRD Pro.
More power and less towing capacity?
BEST IN CLASS BY FAR
Ok, everyone knows you're being an ass.
Not….
Still driving my 2007 taco, which I bought new. After seeing the prices from not only the new Tacomas, but all new cars and trucks, I imagine I will be driving my 2007 Taco well into the future.
And by the time you need to replace your current Tacoma, the new model will be over 100k....
