Two years ago I quit my full-time art job. My family was shocked, a rare full-time art job with benefits and a nice salary: it was impressive I’d gotten it in the first place. But I wanted to work on my OWN art. I packed up and moved from Hawaii to Australia, started hunting for clients. At first I didn’t make any money at all, I was forced to take a part-time job as I started to drain my savings. I focused a lot of my efforts in the wrong places. Slowly, I started to build up my streams of income. A year later, I moved back to the US and I was finally all on my own, no part time job needed. And by my second year working for myself, I exceeded my full-time salary. It wasn’t easy and it wasn’t overnight. But I’m so glad I did it, because now every day I wake up and I get to work on the things I want to.
I’d love to share the lessons I’ve learned along the way to help the journey go smoother, in my new class, Making a Living as an Artist: www.brookeglas...
