Jon's drumming is so natural and fluid that sometimes it's easy to forget how amazing it is what he's actually doing. Also he has incredible endurance sometimes playing really fast beats continuously through long jams.
so awesome! It's refreshing to see he is just another human who happens to be a bad ass drummer because he is obviously not a wordsmith! He communicates with his drums.
Reggae does seem upside down now that I think about it. Those guys are just such excellent musicians. Whether or not anyone likes it or not they're incredibly talented, innovative, unique, and all the things people look for in music. I'm alway shocked and appalled when I hear them criticized.
I love how Trey and Fishman are such close friends that Trey cant even let him do this Rig interview without coming in always w guitar and strap to interrupt
Legend Has it. The Reggae one drop is derived from country and other American music cutting out on the poor transistor radio signals of the island at that time. So they developed a style of playing based around the interpretation of those missing beats.
@@eamonngeraghty5688 genuinely confused by what you’re calling racist? That reggae was in some part influenced by American music? That there was poor radio signal? Obviously reggae isn’t just American country music where you can’t hear the one. While that legend may not be true, I’m having trouble seeing it as racist. Is there something I’m missing here?

He definitely plays some funky meters.
I think out of the four of them, I'd enjoy hanging out with Fish the most.
Me too. He has been my favorite band member since about '94.
That lick by Trey was SRV esque. Very cool
There's a reason they named the band after him
+Phish WE NEED AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS!!!!!!
I could listen to Fishman talk about drums all day so wish his videos were as long as the other guys.
so awesome! It's refreshing to see he is just another human who happens to be a bad ass drummer because he is obviously not a wordsmith! He communicates with his drums.
i always think of fish as kind of the joker of the group, it's easy to forget that he's basically a genius
I pretty much consider Jon Fishman in the same category of epicness as someone like, say Neil Peart.
I like him better!!
@@amandahollifield3297 Same
Fish has better dynamics
Absolutely correct.
I agree. Fishman is the best. I’ve learned so much from just listening to him
The man, the myth, the legend!!!! The greatest drummer ever!!!!
such a beautiful person
Such talent those four guys. They play from the heart...and soul. Beautiful.
I love Fish.
Phish
+Isaac Garcia Jon Fishman (Fish)
Isaac Garcia typical queen fan
talkin about cissy strut at the beginning
yep
Picked that up too.
The hit hat Tsssh tsssh at the end of the segment gives it away.
Oh I just figured that out today nice
Glad to see Mike is a fan of the SWR Super Redhead. Fantastic combo that’s not impossible to lug around.
Fishman talking about drumming, then enter Trey: “hey what’r you guys doing in here?”, comes in and starts soloing! 😂
FISHMAN IS KING !
Love this guy.
Reggae does seem upside down now that I think about it. Those guys are just such excellent musicians. Whether or not anyone likes it or not they're incredibly talented, innovative, unique, and all the things people look for in music. I'm alway shocked and appalled when I hear them criticized.
I try to have ONE intimate moment with Jon and Trey bounds into the room with his guitar yelling "IT"S CHRISTMAS!"
Damnation. So, so fetching and enjoyable.
This is so epic
I love how Trey and Fishman are such close friends that Trey cant even let him do this Rig interview without coming in always w guitar and strap to interrupt
How Trey just pops in at the end xD lol
I love me some Fishman
This guy is awesome😎
Jon Fishman's laugh makes me think of Tigger.
When he laughs at around 2:40, he sounds like a giggling Tigger.
Cissy strut pattern? Awesome!!
That lick by Trey was SRV esque. Very cool
That description of the reggae beat I will use henceforth
Is there a continuation of this? I want to see trey and fishman muck around.
Oh my goodness he's wearing a t-shirt based off of the dress he wears...
it's not a dress its a muumuu!!!
Arthur Z "The muumuu or muʻumuʻu /ˈmuːmuː/ is a loose dress". You were saying?
Arthur Z
When was the last time you ever heard someone call it the donut muumuu?
Just saying.
I've only heard people call it that
A woman's house coat. for dressing down around the house, cooking, cleaning sewing......or good for staying cool while playing drums
the baby sitter took me to a big mean man mommmy ouch ouch
haha i wish this guy were my uncle
I think the first beat he plays/describes was a Meter's tune. Perhaps?
correct
I have the iconic donut dress design as the wallpaper for my iPhone and iPad!

anyone else notice trey coming in playing a classic SRV lick?
ohhh, burn!
We need phish tour
The Captain!
Yep. I couldn't remember the name. Haven't listened to the Meters since the 90's.
fish speaks the truth
I taught John that style back in 1879
Yep.
Is he talking about the song “cissy strut”?
Cissy Strut!
He's gotta be talking about Cissy Strut at the beginning
woahhh okay i have never seen that sunburst languedoc wtf!!! what happened to it??
trey started off playing drums

Which song is this beat for?
00:39 is a Neville Bros. shuffle beat. THAT is NOT unusual to we fans of the Bros. from The Big Easy.
Donut shirt!!
I have that ride
ehhhhhh, i guess that counts for somethin. didn't know that!
Gotta love Trey having to peak his head in at the end so he could be in the video too
Cissy Strut. Yes.
Ah yes the forever challenging cissy strut
working on cissy strut, fyi
He should play john the fisherman
Just need a bass player and we could have the joHn Fishman trio.
Yeah Cissy Strut.
Trey interrupting at the end lol
Haha he does sound like badger.
Trey feels summer's creepy and he's tired of this town again.
He needs a scarf like mike
MessengerMusicWorks that scarf is gay as fuck
haha BADGER.
Get outta here Trey, we're trying to talk drums!!!
cissy strut
