Wow! I truly believe God has led me here. I have a Bachelor's in Pharmacology but I plan to get my masters in HA or Healthcare Management. I've always believed that if you want there to be a change, you've got to get to the top and make that change yourself and that's exactly what you did with your mom. I admire your spirit and I tap from your grace!
Much love from Nigeria! May we one day change Nigeria for the better!

I would also say increasing staffing and providing a healthy environment for all clinical & non-clinical personnel to be able to feel appreciated for their service and contribution, during healthcare daily operations is a must. this process will further provide proper incentives for personnel to stay in the field, which is the number 1 concern for many allied healthcare personnel. The pay and the time is the issue as to why many health care employees are suffering from burnout. further , also considering the need to develope a proper form of scheduling for personnel to ensure adequate nursing services, while increasing patient succes rates, and removing patients off of ventilators, assistant breathing devices and reducing same diagnosis readmisson cases.

Hi Dr., That part where you said you have a Nigerian dad and Nigerians only recognise 4 occupations, is so true.
For instance, i am a Nigerian too, and my parents did want me to be a Lawyer (at the time I was going to college, I didn't know what i wanted to study). So I did study Law. Graduated, got called to the bar, and now that I want to apply for Masters, my father doesn't want me to study any other profession.
I recommended that I want to study nursing, my father was livid (saying he won't waste his resources on me because I'm lazy, lol 😂), while my mom is more concerned about how people would address me for being a nurse.
I don't even know what reaction I'd get if I tell them that I'd love to try Health Administration, lol. It's really crazy how Nigerian parents can be.
I really do need your advice on the career path I should take: I love Law (don't get me wrong) but it's not something I'd practice (unless it's on health law). As for nursing, it is a lot of stress and I don't know if I can cope with stress well. Health Administration is also something I'm looking at but I don't know how to break the news to my fam.

Working as a “consultant” in healthcare for years… you see a lot… a lot of hard working people in difficult conditions; it’s a lot to take in. And, the process of change management in deeply personal realities and
in areas real need and the work can NOT stop. It’s very real and affects all manners of work, and healthcare affects community in multiple streams of efforts and effects.

I am very sorry about the loss of your mom ❤
Your "why" for venturing into Healthcare Administration is noble. Mine is similar in that I am tired of poor care and bad attitides in healthcare. I actually got into healthcare with divine intervention from God. I was going to be a Community Social Worker at the end of my Bachelor's Degree. My first intership fell through and led me into healthcare. Even my volunteer work was supposed to be in the community and guess what, they put me working their hospital educational program for single mothers. Led me to 12 years now in healthcare. I wondered upon your videos...not by accident I am sure...it is a God thing. You see I somewhat feel inferior to nursing healthcare administration candidates. I was once a pre-nursing student college drop-out, when I became a mother and a wife very early. I was so stretched thin at the time I stained my bachelor's transcript with improperly quitting and it took me several years before I went back with a new wind from God. I switched majors, leaving the stains on my transcript. However, my grades were 👆🏾 up from there. I still wanted to stay away from healthcare. I was thinking nursing was the main thing to be in healthcare. God showed me different from all the healthcare experience I have gained in internship, volunteer work, and my career thus far. I am a social worker in healthcare. From this I gained a passion to lead in this field because I often am the problem solver, the one the patient and family feels comfortable sharing a grievance or problem with, and the one who respects and supports all my colleagues from the lowest to highest paid positions. I genuinely see the equal value they all have and treat them as such. My concern has been seeing nurses promoted more than non-nursing into healthcare leadership. Despite me being a licensed professional myself, that and my age concern me. I already crossed the 40 threshold. Nevertheless, I have done well with my MBA, GPA is great. I graduate in about 3 weeks. My concentration is Healthcare Adminstration, and I am seeking out certifications to set myself apart. I am appreciating your content thus far. It has gotten me out of my feelings and back into action. God bless you!

Great. Yet another lazy “…” whom gets to tell us what to do, and has no clue what healthcare even is.
So brave! Soo stunning! A black female with zero clinical exp put into admin above soo many who know more because they are female and black. Never seen that before. “Leadership” lol. What do you expect to bring to the table to “lead”? This is why Imposter Syndrome is a thing.

Thank you for your story! I was supposed to hear your story. You shared 3 things that I believe God may be confirming for me in the spirit. I am proud of you for advocating for your mom, God's hand is on you and his favor is on your life. We have our ideas of what we want our lives to be, but God has his own. His spirit lives in you and you were obedient to the Holy spirit and by doing this your life is full and abundant. I want to offer my condolences for the loss of your mother, I know this was years ago but it you only get one mother, it sounds like you had a good one. I am 38 years old, Married with four children. I am just now attempting to earn a college degree; my oldest daughter and I started our first day of college together on the same day. She is at a university, and I am online enrolled at a community college. I have worked as a Medical Assistant for 17 years and have been blessed to have been taught by some of the best physicians and nurses in Indianapolis. I frequently find myself orienting and teaching nurses how to their job duties. I am well-seasoned with a passion to make a difference but do not have the degree there is no growth opportunity for me. You are absolutely right; I will need to earn a master's degree. Prior to watching this video, I was thinking bachelor's, but I know now I am going higher. I am enrolled as a pre nursing student because that's what the advisor selected for me, I have no interest in being a nurse, it's a logical choice since I know the material. But my passion is making a difference by identifying what's broken, developing a system, and implementing it to see progress made. Thank you for your story, it was motivating and lined up with what I already consulting with God about. I wish you well!

Thank you for this video it is very inspiring and informative. I am beginning my application for MHA program. I have 14 years of experience and currently working as a Registered Medical Assistant. I finished my bachelor in Healthcare Administration in 2019 with hopes of getting into a accelerated nursing program.
I competed most of my prerequisites for the ABSN program. I was inpatient working as a Nurse tech with 2 degrees Medical Assistant Management and now a bachelors degree. I said nope I have to get out of here and work outpatient. I started working with these two managers that had no leadership skills the office was a mess the doctors spoke down to us etc. I said I can do your job and I know I can! Fast forward Covid then another baby I got my Health Information Management Associate degree to gain more of the coding and billing side. I had my daughter and once I was ready to begin work it has been hard to find a management position or something related to leadership such as you said they want a Masters! I love patient care I want to advocated, lead, train mentor create police's amend then etc. I was on a committee while being a nurse tech and it changed my whole outlook on the administrative part of healthcare.
Any tips on getting out of the MA role to leadership? What to look for and what not?!
Sorry for the long comment and I hope you read it. 😊

I am working on tranisitioning into the health OSHA side of healthcare, where my years of service as a Safety Director can be utilized in a higher magnitude, with Incident/Crisis & Disaster management training to revolutionize the way in which the hospital infrastructure responds in times of Crisis. The best way would be through change in having a more patient centered environement , which is where you can truly see a shift in the culture within the healthcare industry. HCAPS are a great stride to have but it is only as good as actually putting the patients first. I would also go further to say that the ability to enhance inpatient turnover, with a higher quality of diagnosis verification, Quality of service, Quality of accurate bedside manner can increase the healing ratio depending on diagnosis for many in patients, all while reducing the number of inpatient exposure to infection and bacteria. Higher quality of nursing services and ensuring proper turning and re-positioning to the those patients unable to do so on their own. This process will also reduce the number of bedsore cases all while preventing dehiscence or breakdown of the patients skin or bedsore ulceration further causing the need of woundcare services.

No it’s not. You may have to relocate to a different state/city for the jobs. Look deeper and it will show. Did you try to take advantage of remote internships? Or your internships to learn everything possible? Try volunteering. The experience do matter, you may have to bounce around in other healthcare roles for a while then get a possible promotion to move up to a leadership position then try healthcare manager roles. Try some of the HIM jobs.

Thank you for sharing your story! I’m 23 and I’m wrapping up a dual masters in public health and public admin. I’ve always been big on health policy, minority health, and HIV but I see myself taking a pit stop at hospital admin because policy doesn’t bring about the immediate changes I want to see in our healthcare system. I hope to start the DrPH Fall 2025 and continue to work in the policy/regulatory space full time to fund my degree. I’d love to hear any advice you could give younger Black women who are navigating these spaces and have their race/gender/age working against them despite their experience.

Rights of a persons body whether in reproduction , mental health, disability and all manner of deeply personal decisions needs to be of consent and proper process. There are many times in history like eugenics or false hierarchies… or evil clinical studies of mental health or holocaust or
Slavery… so many reasons for better rights and health interoperability. The economics are extensions

Hi, sorry for the long message. I’ve tried to go for nursing but I don’t like it, because it’s a lot of studying and memorizing and I’ve failed some of my A&P classes. I then thought I would go for business but am honestly not sure what business I’d want to work at, then I thought about doing business in healthcare so I am now in the health service administration but I’m not sure if I’d like that, I feel like I’m not a leader type of person. I thought it would be more of a receptionist paperwork type of job. I’m also not very good at finance which I’m assuming you need to be good at. I also feel like healthcare might be kind of limiting in terms of business type jobs so I was thinking of switching to a business management degree so I could work at any type of business. I’m curious what your thoughts are. Are you able to work in healthcare with a business degree or only with a degree in healthcare? And do you have to get a masters? Is it even worth being in healthcare administration if you don’t have a masters?
    If you respond thanks 💖
