i’m 19 and planned on becoming a nurse and keep going back and fourth but i’ve always loved being in charge, planning, hospital setting, caring for others, making a impact, etc. this video helped so much on my career path!!
Thank you for watching I am so so glad!
Finally someone I can relate to! I was also going for nursing, half way through I realized it wasn't for me. I will be earning my associates in health services administration this may and I'm so exited!
YAY Im so glad you figured that out early 🤍 good luck!!
This is crazy, your journey sounds a lot like what I’m currently going through. I’m currently a junior who was pre-med for 2 years and called it quits. I’m currently a Sociology/Public health major. I’m really aiming for an MHA after I graduate. Thank you so much for this video, it was so insightful!
I love hearing your journey!!! You got this :) Thank you 🥰
Omg hi! I'm also a junior majoring in Sociology who was pre-med
Congrats on finding this at an early age. I'm 34 and just discovered this is what I want to do. I might be 40 when I finish school but I plan on going all the way. keep us updated so we can follow along with good luck.
That's amazing!!! You got this! It's never too late 🥰 definitely planning to make more videos about the subject
34 is still young. Average retirement is 65 so you still will utilize your degree for 25 plus years if you choose.
Same!
Same am 30 and just started my journey for this degree plan!
36 and just finished my BA and starting on A dual MBA/MHA
I'm 19 years old and luckily because of the pandemic I got time to think what I want to do.
I'm really looking forward to studying hospital management but I'm soooo scared and I don't know anybody in this field plus no one really makes videos about this field.
So thank you sooo much!
Youre so welcome!! :)
Omgee same here luv
I am majoring in Healthcare Management. Add me on snap : dtoddsims so we could talk.
Thank you so much for this video. I am a freshman in college and i just declared my major as health admin. I have been trying to research, but there are barely any good videos about this degree. Thank you so so much!
Yes! I found the same issue! I'm definitely going to make more videos about internships and my job search when I graduate 🥰
Krista Cannady please do thank you
Thank you for providing a clear and concise description of what becoming a HEALTHCARE ADMINISTRATOR entails.
Very good. Im so torn between this masters program and a few others.
Thanks for watching!!
Hey! Thank you for making this video. I am majoring in HSA and I haven't found many videos of people who are Health Care Managers/ Administrators. I used to major in Nursing and I changed to Health Service Administration. Before, I was so enthusiastic in watching RUclips videos of nurses-- but after I switched it was hard for me to find RUclips creators like you talking about HSA. Love it!
Totally agree!!! That was my issue. Hopefully I can fill the void with more videos :)
Thank you for posting this video! Prior I was a nursing assistant for around a year but now I am currently a nurse and honestly after working bedside for over a year, 2 jobs, I realize that I just can't. I don't feel like nurses are constantly understaffed, inadequate resources, etc. This just makes the job harder and in turn makes it bad for the patients. I truly feel like bedside nursing is going to be an issue in the incoming years because many new nurses coming in realize that it's not what they expected it to be. I want to do something behind the scenes, help hospitals or clinics get better, develop good policies, etc. I didn't realize you could do so much with a public health degree. Thank you for the video!
Yes! Hospital administration degree. You can definitely work behind the scenes to make nurse's lives BETTER! 🤍

Would you be able to give us examples of type of positions MHA students should apply for?
Thanks
From which country
Wawoo, that's so wonderful!
Can you make a video on the functions of health administrator?
Thank you very for sharing your experience with me!!
I graduated with my MHA in 2015. It does give you a wealth of knowledge that you can use in your health care career whether you get an administrator role or decide to do clinical work. I will say that getting an administrative job will be slightly difficult after you get out of school if you don't have any experience working in any administrative roles in any industry or don't have experience working in a health care setting. I recommend that while you are pursing you're degree or before you start, apply for entry level jobs that will make you competitive for the job you want after you graduate. You can also have transferable skills from a different industry that will help in getting the job.
I am currently lab tech/CRC in research lab.
Yes! I totally agree it is important to get your foot in the door early. Thank you so much for sharing :)
@@KristaCannady 👍🏾😊
I'm a histotechnologist MHA student! Totally agree with what you said! I have a few people in my program that have zero experience but they are looking!
Can you suggest any books apart from course which will help us even more🙏
I totally agree on what you said. A lot of my healthcare admin classmates back then struggled finding a job after graduation. Experience is really important in the healthcare admin field. For those who love healthcare admin and don’t mind the clinical side, I highly recommend to get a nursing license (LVN or RN), not only increase your pay in significant amount, it also opens more door to opportunity
You have no idea how much this video has helped me I’m literally in the position you were in just crying and feeling like a disappointment because I always thought I’d be a doctor but I’m so thank for this
Thank you for sharing your journey. I have been a physician for 23 years and decided to go back to get my MHA. Yes, decided to go back to school when most felt life was set. I love what I do and feel we need those who have clinical career experience to work in administration along side administrators as we navigate this era in healthcare. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for sharing!! It is great you will be able to make a difference by combining the degrees
Yes, we need people with actual sound clinical skills to run hospitals. Still have yet to meet an administrator that wasn’t totally detached from what is required to attain quality patient care.
Good luck with your job. We definitely need some people who have been on the front line in administration
SO thankful for this very informative video! I'm a second-year studying Health Administration with a concentration in Health Systems Management. There definitely are not as many videos about this major/ career field and this helps so much and assures me that I am not alone! I came into college as a nursing major and quickly realized that it wasn't for me. But just like you, I still want to be in a hospital setting and make an impact on people's lives. Thanks again for this video and good luck on your MHA! I aspire to get mine as well and maybe doctorates!
I love that so many people relate!! Thank you for watching!
It’s so interesting to hear someone so passionate in what they wanna do. It’s an eye opener to hear about your long journey, with trial and error and now you’re finally happy with the outcome. I’m sure this’ll be very helpful to those who are thinking about entering the similar industry! I wish you the best lovely, happy new year xx 💕
Awww happy new year!! Yes, totally agree! People are still changing their careers in their 40s, never settle! 🥰
Thank you for this video. I’m also majoring in healthcare Administration, I’m exited to see what changes we can make in the future.
So exciting! Me too can't wait to see what our generation does
This video really helps me as a junior in high school. Watching this video has made me more intrigue about this field
I hope so!!! Thank you! 🥰
Healthcare Administration is what I am majoring in also! This video lets me know that there is someone I can relate too and that I’m not alone. I cannot deal with blood either and I had to figure that out the hard way.
Yep same!! So glad you can relate!
I love love love this video. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am currently in my last year of undergrad majoring in biology and recently had the epiphany that medical school and nursing school just isn't for me. I hope I find happiness in MHA programs. Thank you again!
That makes me so happy!! Thank you!!
Best brief idea about HMA....thanx alott and please keep uploading about ur days in life as a student and performing job as Health administrator
Thanks so much!! I def will!!
I love you for making this video! Im 18 and im literallyy confused on what I wanna do and I have mental breakdowns becuz I suck at chemistry and bio even though my whole life I was like "Yes Neurologist me is definitely happening" ....but I'm still in a state of confusion. This vid rlly helped!!
You have so much time to figure it out!! You got this!!
I am 25 and looking to make a transition in this field from sales to having the ability to change lives and work within a medical community. Nothing is more fulfilling than ensuring you are making a difference in people's lives. Thanks for helping me understand this field in more depth.
My whole high school/college focus was on nursing. Then once I actually got into the nursing program...I passed out in clinical watching a surgery 😂 i knew nursing wasn’t going to work but I was terrified to change my major. Switching majors turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made! I quit being a CNA, started working in insurance (making 2xs more), got my associates in healthcare management and now going for BS HCM w/ public health minor 🥰 love the content keep it coming 💋
Love hearing your story!! Thank you so much!!
Thank you for making this video! I went into college with intentions of going to medical school too. I’ve had doubts throughout school because the passion wasn’t fully there. I’m in my last year of undergrad and currently applying to an MHA program. This video definitely inspired me and I couldn’t relate more.
That is amazing! I'm so glad you have found your path
hi! i just wanted to write to you to say thank you! i’m also your age, believed that i would be a doctor, and recently made the switch to pursue an MHA degree instead. i’m waiting to hear back from a few programs, and i can’t wait to get started! i feel like i’ve seen so many videos like this for premed students, but this is the first that i’ve seen for an MHA student. it was so wonderful and informative! wishing you so much luck on your journey! rooting for you always! ♥️
That is so exciting. Thank you! & Congratulations on applying and figuring out your next steps!! Best of luck to you 🤍🥰🥰
Thanks for sharing your journey! I’m currently applying for a MHA/MPA so it was good to get some insight on how other people get there...I was pre-med too and realized I hated chem!
Im so glad!!! Lol relatable
I am going through the same thing that you went through. I wanted to be a nurse so I became a PCT and it is not for me. I want to make a positive impact in peoples lives and you helped me open my eyes to furthering my education to get my degree. Thank you !! :)
Im SO glad it helped you!!! :)
am a senior in high school and so confused on what to major in and I stumbled upon this video! I am very intrigued and thankful for seeing this video because I have never even though that this was a job and now I am planning to look more into this:)))
Glad it was helpful!!! 🥰🥰
I am currently working on my masters degree in healthcare administration as well
love it!
Hey guys im looking into getting a MHA. I'm curently working on a bachelors in business adminstration. Should i switch to something on the healthcare side? Im a little confused
@@Shannon-im7re hi, you don’t need any healthcare admin degree to land for a job in the healthcare industry, working experience is more important than a degree. I highly suggest you to get some working experience before you go for your master. It can be hard to get into healthcare company since they usually offer good benefits
Hii I m a bds graduate from india in 2021. Want to pursue mha in Canada.. is it a good option?
@@n.k.5344 same doubt sir
I loved watching this! It reminded me a ton of why I went into biomedical engineering instead of med school! Get the environment and benefits of the medical field, but don't have to be directly involved in clinical work!
Yes, exactly!! I love that!
Hiii
Wow I can’t believe this video came in my path at the right time! I’m a student at UNCC currently and I am going through the exact same thing! I am about to become a junior this fall and I have been contemplating about either continuing premed or going down the path of public health just as you did! Gave me a perspective thank you so much! ❤️
So glad to hear it!! :) Thank YOU!
I’ll be graduating in May 2021 and I cannot wait! A lot of doors can open with an MHA but if you’re looking into getting into the c-suite there are specific skills that you want to develop and need to have a plan in place to achieve your target goal. Getting accepted into a fellowship program l, for example, can fast track a fresh graduate into a c-suite leadership role (COO).
That is pretty awesome!
Please do more videos about this! I just started my journey getting my bachelors in healthcare administration and this is all still new to me. 💕💕
Ahhh I definitely plan too! Lots of grad school content coming. And then more about my future internship, job search, etc etc!
Thank you for sharing. I also started with pre med. Then, 2 years in I realized that direct care is not the best fit for me. So, I decided to get my B.S. in Long-Term Care Administration. I am now a licensed nursing home administrator. This is a six-figure career from the start, but nursing homes are just not on the same level as hospitals, which is exactly why I’m also planning on getting my MHA. I hope this will lead to a fellowship at a hospital. The administrative side of healthcare is a lot more rewarding than people think. I once had a resident (at a nursing home) thank me for making her life better, this made me realize that the 60+ hours a week and the intense pressure is worth it. Anyways, I just wanted to share because it seemed like we are both very similar. Good luck in your future!
Love your story!! Thank you for sharing :)
Wow I have the exact same background! I have my BS in Exercise Science, and got my MBA in Healthcare Administration. I’m currently an Administrative Fellow for a healthcare system in CA! It’s definitely a hard path, but worth it if you stick to it!
Ahh I love to hear success stories!! Congrats on the fellowship!!
Great video. I have been a nurse for 6 years. I knew during school that this wasn’t the career for me but I continued anyway. (Mom is a nurse) I’ve held multiple jobs as a nurse trying find the right fit. But it never came. 2020 was the last breaking point for me. Now I’m finishing up my BS in health care administration and heading right into a MHA program. Good luck on your journey!
That's so amazing!! So glad you found your path🥰
Omg this was soo helpful, I am almost done with my prerequisite for ADN and for a personal problem I won’t be able to keep on track for nursing and I was freaking out about what to study, and for this time I kinda realize the same as you about maybe nursing is not what I really want. I did some research about careers in Health care and I found health care administration but as you I was scared about the salary because I want something I like and have a good salary!!, next semester I will start taking my classes to transfer to university for health care administration!
That's so exciting!!! So glad you found your path 🥰
This was so helpful!!! I’m pursuing my MBA-HCA and this just gave me so much confidence that it’s going to be okay. it sounds like we have the same story, same amount of debt lol, and same goals !!
Aw yay!! It really is gonna be okay ❤️
This was right on time. I can relate to your entire experience. Thank you for sharing! Wishing you the best. 💕
I am so so glad 🤍
watching this in 2 years!!! I AGREE. IT IS SO DAUNTING TO CHOOSE A PATH.
I went from a bio major to a health admin major. I realized I didn’t want to be a doctor either. I’m still in school and will be going to peruse my MHA too! It is not a lot of videos about this. Keep posting!
P.S. Heeeeeeeeyyyy Franklin 🥰🐶
YAY Im so glad you found this video!
Currently in the middle of RN program just to question if I want to do this for the rest of my life. I have strong leadership skills and always had that mind set after nursing I’ll get a business degree. Now I’m thinking about switching majors. Thank you for the video !
omg we have the same background! I'm also doing my undergrad in exercise science and am thinking of doing my MHA!
love that!! there are a few people in my classes that have EXSS degrees!!
This video felt like a self reflection, recently earned my BS in Premed. Believing I wanted to be a Derm PA lol... Its a scary transition (undergrad -> grad) but I am happy to have found your channel + videos! I am currently applying to an MHA program in hopes I get in.
Thank you for your transparency 🤍
You got this!
This video was so helpful! I'm currently finishing up my last semester as an undergrad in Public Health. Right now I'm currently applying to grad schools for Healthcare Administration. Thanks for the insight!
Im so glad it was helpful! :)
Hey.. Naiya... I see you've mentioned Public health... Actually I'm aspiring to pursue Masters in public health... Overseas...so can you give an idea what iam getting into... And why are you doing MHA after public health degree....
@@KristaCannady Is a bachelor's in health science the same as a bachelor's in public health or more broad?
@@michaejones3411it’s the same.
This sounds really great. Been an MD for the past 14 years but right now,I'm thinking of adding an MHA. Thanks for the fresh challenge
Love continuing education! Can never go wrong
I’m an undergrad in health admin!!! So glad I found your RUclips :)
Eeeeeep so exciting!! I'm so glad you're here 🥰
We have very similar paths! I am in Charlotte as well & decided to go straight into my MHA. I’m in my program now & I have about a year left too. Right now I’m in hospital registration & I’m excited to see where this degree can take me! I was hoping to jump right into health administration but it makes me feel good to know there’s someone my age who is also taking time to build that career. It was hard for me to decide not to continue the path to becoming a nurse practitioner.. but now I’m happy I went with my instinct. I’ll be keeping up with your channel 💕 p.s. I also have a black cat 🐈⬛
omg wow we are so similar!! Yes I have been so happy after making this video there truly are so many people out there who are interested in a MHA. Keep me updated with you! 🥰
Really appreciated this video. I got my bachelors in healthcare management yet this video was still so informative and inspirational! I've been working in the field for almost 2 years and you should definitely continue to post videos about this. I am currently trying to get into a hospital as well after working at a primary care office. You should continue to post your journey!
I definitely plan to post more health administration videos as time goes on!! the job search, days in the life, getting an internship, etc etc! love hearing about your journey, too :)
Awesome video! I am almost done with LPN school. However, I will keep my license when I graduate and pursue Healthcare Admin too!
Awesome :)
I appreciate that you pet your dog while filming this video
He deserves all the pets
Your videos have been so helpful! I'm a sophomore in college and completely side with you about not enjoying the sight of blood. I'm majoring in public health and minoring in statistics and business and realized that looking into an MHA is a great idea. Thanks for all the info!
Thank you so much!!
Good for you. I'll have my MHA in 5 months. I'm excited as well, also scared because I am almost done.

That is awesome!!
Thanks for this! I’m finishing my BSPH and thinking about an MHA after realizing I don’t want to have a clinical role & my bigger passion is health policy. This answered a lot of questions for me. (And I’m old, 25 🤢🤣)

I’m 19 & stay at home mom & clueless lol. This video was extremely helpful. I’m currently working on getting my Bachelors of science in Health Science degree & I still wasn’t satisfied. I’m like you and always thought I wanted to be in forensics or a doctor, but that’s just isn’t for me, I didn’t want a persons life in my hands. I want to make a difference even if it’s not working directly with patients. After getting my bachelors degree, I will be going for my MHA degree:)
Thank you for making this! I’d love more videos about MHA And the career itself! My story is almost identical to yours. I graduate with a kinesiology degree in may and have no idea what to do:/
I feel you!! I definitely plan to make more videos as my career progresses :)
I wanted to say thank you for making this video. I really resonated with so much that you said about wanting to work in a hospital setting but not wanting to become a doctor. I graduated from college in 2020 and I’m thinking about getting my masters degree but I have been debating between MBA and MHA. After watching this video I am more convinced that MHA is better choice for me. Thank you!
Im so happy to help!!
Very close to finishing my BS degree in sociology with a concentration in social work. I realize now (after being exposed to real-life cases) that I don't want to be a social worker. I knew I would have to witness/be a part of some very traumatic cases but what I didnt realize was that I would bring the emotions home and my husband and kids would feel it too. So I've been exploring master's degrees and this is one of them. It'll be my 2nd career (I'm a bit older) so I don't have a lot of time (or money). That being said, I'm looking at WGU's Healthcare Management degree. The cost is very much within my reach. Just wondering how respected the degree is in the field.
An MBA is def respected! I think having the degree is the most important part! Congrats on changing your path, it is never too late and so important to be happy! 🥰
Hi. I’m also considering WGU’s online program. Did you get in?
thank you, this video helped ease my nerves with my decision to change my major from Psychology to Healthcare Administrator.
Glad I found your video! I’m getting ready to sit for my nursing home administrator board exam next month. I just graduated with my healthcare administration degree. I feel this is a very rewarding career!

Ill probably be 31 or 32 by the time I'm done with my masters but I'm super excited to get into Healthcare administration.
That is amazing! Everyone takes their own path, congrats on figuring out what you wanna do! 🥰
THIS SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE ME hahah. I went in as pre PT and majored in exercise science at UF and changed my mind like 4 times with what I wanted to do with my major. I actually interviewed for a nursing program and got denied and I think that may have been a blessing in disguise. I actually too did not know what to do with my exercise science major and I did not want to own a gym. I'm actually dying rn at how similar our story is hahah. I did more research into MHA and I have an interview for USFs MHA program on monday! Pls let me know If you have any interview tips!!
OMGGGG that is amazing lol we are twins! You got this! I would say it is huge to talk about the details of THEIR program and why it is the perfect fit for you! :)

Hi, I came across your channel because I am wanting to go for my MHA/ BA at my school. It took me a while to understand what I truly want to do. So, thank you for telling us about your journey because I had a similar breakdown and mental breakdown about changing my major to something else that still relates to passion.

Love this video! You are right there aren’t many videos on here that talk about the non-clinical side of the hospital. I’m getting my Bachelors in Business Administration with a Specialization in Healthcare Management. I’d want to have my Masters in just healthcare admin, is that possible with that being my undergrad degree?
Yes absolutely! That undergrad is going to be a great foundation for your MHA! 🥰
I'm doing the same thing! I graduate next year with the same degree, I planned on starting to make videos about my clinical and non clinical experience. I wish there were more videos.
Thanks for sharing your experience, i am currently planning to take health admin course soon because i want to change my career path. but glad i found your video. now it makes me more excited to do this. thanks :)

Thank you so much for making this video, and sharing this information. I'm debating if I should do an associate's in business management, then follow up with a bachelor's in health administration.
That's a great idea! No problem 🥰
I really enjoyed hearing more about your background, and what hospital administration actually is! This truly sounds so interesting, I know that you must put in very hard work to come as far as you have so congratulations!! I study business and I feel like it’s a lottttt but I could only imagine if I would’ve chosen a degree in or anywhere near the medical field. You are also totally right that we definitely did not know what we wanted to do with our lives at 18, and it’s kind of ironic and unfortunate that literally during your senior year they want you to choose your pathway and what you’re going to do for the rest of your life. You’re precious 💓
I love that! I totally thought about a MBA for a while. Decided on MHA though :) Goodluck with your path!! Thank you so much!
Thank you for your video! I am a sophomore in college and was studying nursing and about to apply to the program. However, I also work as a CNA and realized that the high-stress, high-error potential nature of the job was not a good fit for me, as well as realizing that working 12-16 hour shifts on my feet can actually be pretty tough on the body. So I decided to switch to getting a degree in Public Health. My question is, if I get a Bachelor's in Public Health, will that be enough education to be able to work in a hospital administration type of job? What kind of jobs would I be able to get with a Bachelors in Public Health?
Thank you so much for sharing!! CNA work is so tough. You definitely can get an entry level job with a public health degree, but advancing would definitely be more difficult. You can always start that way and then if you want to get an advanced degree later you can!
Working as a CNA is in no way shape or form comprable to working as an RMA, RN, or a Physician. All 4 are very different. CNAs are extremely hands on and work more with the patients hygiene and quality of their day to day lives. Just making them comfortable and keeping them fed and clean, playing games with them doing puzzles, I dont believe CNAs pass meds either but also changing out cath bags, changing bedding, bed pans, wheelchair transfers, etc. I personally have no problem touching patients but my field allows for regular 8 to 9 hour days M-F, and basically servicing the physician just as much as the patients. I hope you go on to find your dream position though and glad to see young people on here looking at options at such a young age! I just feel like people are constantly comparing CNAs with nurses and MA's and its just absolutely so inaccurate....its mind boggling. Follow a CNA all day, and follow a Nurse or MA. What you are actually doing throughout any given day is completely different. The scope of practice for each is night and day. For whatever reason, CNAs seem to find this offensive I think and I dont know why. If anything its a testament to how hard they work and not only that, CNAs are typically losing their patients whom they have hrown very close with because they soend so much time with each individual every day, and its devastating, so my hat eternally goes off to every CNA out there because the level of strength walking into work every day wondering if Marie, in room 216, the one who loves sweet tea and werthers, greeted you every day with a huge smile but would get grumpy if she missed her soaps but its okay because you planned to surprise her with her favorite meal tomorrow......etc....well you walk into work tomorrow and the only thing left is a set of fresh linens, the smell of clorox and a single werthers wrapper in the bottom of an empty bin. There is no job thats more difficult i dont feel like.
I loved this video!!! I’m almost done with my MHA, I’m 22. Then I’m going for my doctorates. It feels good knowing what it entails and knowing others experience. Thanks girl
Thank you!! :)
Thank you for sharing your story! I’m about to graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy and then pursue my Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Health Services. I believe that degree is very similar to the one that you’re getting? But I’m not entirely sure. A lot of the jobs you mentioned I believe are opportunities with this degree as well.
Yes!! Very similar degrees 🥰 love hearing your story
Thankyou so much for this video,i wanted a video like this. I have just finished Physiotherapy bachelor's degree and i don't want to do my master's in that.i was so confused between mha and mph . This helped a lot.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!!
Hi, your video definitely gave me a lot of answers. Thanks, I will be starting my MHA degree this fall from UIW in San Antonio Texas. It is a CAHME accredited program and I am really looking forward towards it. I wanted to know, how important is accreditation in terms of looking for jobs and also what are some entry level jobs available once the degree is over.. thanks in advance...
accreditation is HUGE and I would not go to a program without it!! Congratulations!! you can learn more about it on the cahme website
Yes also look into nursing home administrators ! You get a license as well. Thats what I am aiming for my current administrator told me I can do my Ait internship there so I’m super excited to finish ., my health background is as a recreation therapist in nursing facilities
Totally!! Geriatrics is huge!
Like you, I am also getting my bachelor's in exercise science. I'll be finished with it this semester. I am thinking about applying to an MHA program but I think I'm just a little confused/overwhelmed at the career choices. How did you know what you were going to specialize or focus on? I've looked into project manager, healthcare consultant, and healthcare administrator. I am also only 23 years old and I don't really know where to gain experience from. I really enjoyed your video, it helped a lot!
Your first year in the program is really great because you take classes on epidemiology, quality control, health law, finance, etc etc.. which are all potential fields you could go into. This helps you to find an internship you're interested in, so you can further explore! You can also choose electives to help you discover more. I am one semester in and still not 100% sure what job I want, but that is OKAY! I think the right thing will fall into place 🥰
Am actually facing this decision now. Am a Pre-med major tho I still want to pursue my goals to become a doctor.
Thanks for this video
Hi, first I would like to thank you for the information! I started my journey similar to yours with a bachelor's in kinesiology. I recently started my MHA program through SNHU and wanted to see if you know of any good extracurricular activities that would look good on my resume? The program I am in is online-based and wanted a little more experience in the field of MHA. I am a little lost on where to start or how to look for oppertunities.
That is awesome!! Good luck!! My professor really pushes for volunteering. Check out some local non-profit clinics and see if they need any help :)
Girl you spoke to me!!!! I think I want to do healthcare administration!!
YASSS 👏
Hey girl! Thanks for the info.. I just started my MPA program and want to do my specialization in health care administration... do you think these are pretty close?
Yes!! They are definitely close :) MHA is just more business based
@@KristaCannady This makes sense, I would assume the MPA is probably more policy based.. just started my grad program.. super psyched. Thanks for answering my question :)
This is such a helpful video, I related to your story so much. I'm currently majoring Biology and understand my true calling would consist of me combining my passion for science with administrative work. And the way you mentioned lobbying, damn...maybe my love for public speaking and debate can come in handy!
Hello! I just ran across your channel and I’m already in love with your content. I am currently a freshman in college majoring in Public Health. Is it possible for me to receive a bachelors in Public Health and later receive my masters in Healthcare Administration?
That is so sweet! Thank you 🥺 Yes! Public health is one of the bachelors I think would set you up really well for a MHA!!! good luck!
Thanks for sharing the valuable information Krista.
Thank you!
Your outfit is too cute!
Thank you so much 😀
I can relate to you soooooo much 🙌🏼🙌🏼 we could have endless conversations MHA . I’m in NC as well good luck with all
I'm also going through the same situation. I just finished my 4 year physiotherapy degree now i realize i don't want to directly interact with patients so I'm also planning to do my masters in hospital administration
im actually getting my MHA and i graduate August
But i am having hard time finding a job within the field because everyone expects you to have experience! Which is super frustrating because a lot of companies will not give you the opportunity to learn unless you know someone.
Agreed! They want you to already have your foot in the door at the hospital.
Get a residency. If it isn’t built into your program do it over the summer. Then get a fellowship.
This video is literally so helpful thank you so much I’ve been so indecisive on what I wanted to get my degree in and I think I have finally made up my mind I also thought I wanted to do bedside but realized it wasn’t for me but I do love helping and working with people so thank you I look forward to tour future videos on your career journey 💜
You're so welcome! So glad to hear this
I'm planning a "ANSWERING YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT HEALTH ADMINISTRATION" video! Please drop your questions here for me :) DONE! VIDEO HERE: ruclips.net/video/g7tZhFDf7eU/видео.html
What kind of things do you learn in your business/finance classes?
How different is school work in grad school vs undergrad?
What had been been the hardest thing so far? What are you enjoying the most?
What were the 5 schools you applied for? Is there a reason you didn’t accept the online schools?
Hi! I am set to start a M.S. in Health Management in September! I opted for a one year degree abroad (less time in school and way less expensive!) How do you feel about the stigma of non-clinical workers holding management positions in hospitals? I know nurses/doctor's are not very happy with finance and budgets being at the forefront of health administrators minds and not patient satisfaction. It's something I have struggled with and the reason why I don't necessarily want to work in a hospital/private practice. Also, have you ever though of health informatics, consulting, medical devices, or project management? I'm currently debating all four! This was long but you were right in that there are not many videos of people discussing this career path, thank you!!
Hi! I am just finishing nursing school and honestly, I'm not sure if I want to do bedside care forever. Do you think a nursing degree background would be a good background for healthcare administration. I'm hearing we'd need to have some type of business degree to be successful in a career in MHA. I'm just afraid that I don't have the right background. What do you think?
Is it a relevant program for pharm d graduate?
I’m also working on my MHA right now. Thank you for your informative video :)
Glad it was helpful!
i loved this video and hearing more about your background!! thank you for sharing your experience! grad school was definitely not easy for me just how competitive my cohort was and it was definitely a journey so i think people will definitely benefit from this video! :)
Aww that is so sweet! I totally agree, super beneficial!
I enjoyed this video. Informative and allowed different avenues in the health care industry. Thanks
Definitely first time looking at this video 10 months later lol. I’m a freshman in college and this is exactly how I feel!! Coming to a realization that maybe nursing isn’t for me, which is so hard! Thank youuuu so much for this video because this is LITERALLY how I feel! I’m literally screaming at my laptop YES lol, because it is exactly how I feel!
This is exactly like me. Currently a junior, previously wanting to be a nurse or PA, and works as a CNA. I realized I’m not happy in the clinical setting. I’m looking into getting an MHA now and I’m actually excited about it! Would you recommend getting an internship or something before graduate school?
I am planning to study health care management in my late twenties and this video is so informative. Thank you for sharing.❤️
Great video on MHA. I’m currently in my 3rd year of my BHA and it’s not much info about this degree and people who are in it do not talk about it publicly like that. Luckily my aunt is best friends with a guy who is a COO of a big hospital in Chicago, so I get a lot of information from him (he has a MHA).
I’m also noticing that a lot of jobs want you to have experience/nursing degree. The nursing degree is not needed but definitely gives you points in moving up even with no healthcare management experience. I’ve also found a group that explained that even taking entry level positions at a large facility helps moving up too if you have no experience, this gives you the HA experience you need and there’s room to grow within a large facility.
Hope this helps anyone reading this thinking about this degree. There’s not much info out there because this profession is pretty much a secret society lol.. you have to be in it already to know all the real tea and what to do after you graduate.
Totally agree with you! Nursing is popular, but totally not necessary. A lot of older nurses will go back for their MHA. Thanks for the input!! 🥰
I think it's so cool that u decided to go for ur MHA. I graduate in about 1.5 weeks with my MHA! It's definitely been a long road, but I'm so thankful to finally be arriving. Like u said, u can do so much with a MHA. I love people and want to go into management/Leadership, so that's what I'm working on. How much longer do u have?
That is so exciting! I hope you find a good job!! I have another year I will graduate in May 2022!!
@@KristaCannady I appreciate u! Hang in there; u got this!
