Hello, this was a great resource. I have worked in healthcare finance for over 10 yrs in Medical Billing/AR. I am really looking to grow in the Healthcare industry and increase my earning potential. It seems like Healthcare Administration would be the wiser choice to further advance within the same realm.
So happy I came across this page … I will start school in September for my bs in healthcare administration, I have no experience in the medical field but I always wanted this to be my end goal but didn’t know when or how to start
I start my bachelor's of science healthcare administration next months ready for the journey. I am currently a sterile processing technician, I didn't realize how much I miss patient interaction and dealing with guest. I enjoy your videos.
Dr. Owie, the clarity and direction you provide in this series is unlike anywhere else online. I can not thank you enough. I want to change inequities in health care, and with your post I now realize the Health care Management path is the one I need to venture into. I will still obtain my MBA but I will expand my horizons for a MHM instead of an MHA. Thank you so much! 🙂
Hi Dr. Orobosa, I have decree in Law and I am thinking of doing a Master’s degree in Healthcare administration, I would like your advice, would it be better to do a certificate in a course in Healthcare administration or do the Masters
Dr. Orobosa, I am so glad I stumbled upon your page! I have been binge watching all afternoon and shared your page with some classmates. I currently work as a physical therapist assistant in an outpatient clinic. I've been doing this for the past 14 years and will graduate in December with my bachelor's in HCA. I plan to leave the patient treatment side. The career opportunities for HCA is huge and I would like to know which areas you would suggest I look into for future employment.
Hello there! I am currently pursuing a bachelor's in Healthcare Management. After my bachelor's degree, I will pursue a Master's in Healthcare Administration. Then I've been contemplating on continuing to pursue a DHA.
Dr.Owie thanks for the clarification on the differences . I had a quick question I have been a LPn 9+ years and CPHT but I am wanting to step away from the bedside full time and get into management but need to further my education online. I am trying to find the best affordable college for a bachelor degree.
Hi Sarah, thanks for watching! I will be going live on the @forhealthscholars channel on 08/09/2023, feel free to join as I will be answering your question live!
I enjoyed your video. I plan on reviewing your previous videos as well. I’m glad you mentioned the contrast between these two programs and included MPH. This is my struggle lol. I’m debating between which would be best for me. I’ve worked as a CNA and patient registration. I want to grow in healthcare but I don’t think I want to be an administrator. What advice could you give me please?
Hi, thank you for watching. There are several roles under the healthcare administration sector than being an administrator. I recommend you explore which part of the healthcare sector you are interested in and see what jobs full under that sector and apply. All the best!
What should i do with a master's degree in public administration (with a concentration in govt management) to break into healthcare admin? Should I apply for an entry level desk job at a hospital? Do I need healthcare education? What could I do to get hired or set myself apart?
Hi Hannibal, getting a certification in healthcare business speciality can be helpful. Also, applying to entry level jobs using transferable from your MPA background can also help you break into the industry. All the best!
I’m getting my Bachelors in health science and administration, I’m currently a Sonographer so I think my clinical background will help my career, what do you think Dr.?
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. I graduated with my MHA in December 2022, and I still don't quite know where I am going or what's next. Are you still willing to do any one on one sessions?
Hi Otito, Thanks for watching. Yes, I am doing one on one career clarity sessions. Feel free to send me an email at hello(at)forhealthscholars.com in which I reply with my scheduling link. Talk soon!
I graduated with a degree in Kinesiology in 2022 working as a mental health case manager at this time. I have been interested in switching roles though and working my way up to learning more healthcare management and administrative roles. I also have an interest in furthering my education with an MBA/MHA to keep my options open, but am unsure yet of if wanting to pursue higher education without getting some hands-on level experience first. Any advice on how I can get started?
Man some of these comments about the hardships of finding a good paying job in Healthcare Administration is starting to discourage me i just started school for this and this gives me anxiety now like did i make a wise choice? I wanted to be done after the Bachelors but am i making a mistake?? What are some good paying entry level healthcare jobs i should be trying to look more into when im finished? I see the internships advice as well. Are any of these jobs salaried or they all pretty much pay hourly? Someone thats in this field and landed a good paying job help please.
Hi Percise… Thanks for watching. I understand your concerns, every industry has it pros and cons. The Job Market is challenging across many industries right now… For example Google and Meta both tech companies just laid off collective total 10,000 employees. If you are interested working in the business side of the healthcare industry, there is space for you but using pre-COVID job hunting strategies will not work in this current market. Internships and fellowships are good starting points but Networking is better. I recommend you start Networking. Also using a recruiting agency can help as well. In regards salary, is really dependent on the company. All the best
I'm so appreciative for your enlightment Dr. Owie . Am David from Uganda I would like to study BA. Healthcare management but such course is not in any University in Uganda can I study online and from which university. thanks
Hi thanks for watching & welcome to the channel! To answer your question, I am not aware of any online universities that offer healthcare administration and accept international students. I recommend you conduct a Google search to start your university search. All the best!
Hi, I am an international student in Canada offering a Healthcare Administration and Service Management Graduate certificate in one of the colleges in Ontario. I was a midwifery tutor (BSc holder) back home in Ghana. What are my job options after graduation?
What do you recommend or where to go to learn and obtain all the information a new practice manager must do for a new practice. With someone who hasn’t attended college for this but has patient care experience for years and was offered a position and would like to do research and prepare.
@yol3052 congratulations on being offered a position! As former Practice Manager, a lot things I learned was by doing the job. My education helped but this specific role is really hands on. You can read a series of leadership and management articles to learn about formal methods and processes to use when leading teams of people. If you accept the job, just be opening to learning. All the best
Hi, Although the Nigerian healthcare system is fragmented, I do know a few health systems across Lagos, Abuja, and Benin that have hired healthcare managers.
Hi thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. I am not from Canada so I am not sure which courses are to take there. I suggest you conduct a Google search
I did my MBA in health care management, now I am fresher and searching for job but i don't have any experience can you please guide me what should I do and how to get job
If you're in the US, look into AmeriCorps Public Health Corps to see if they operate in your state. That's what I've been doing for about a year and a half after I obtained my BS in Health Management. It's almost like a paid internship. It's been incredibly helpful for gaining the little bit of experience I needed. Hope this helps!
Hi Blanca, I understand your concerns. My advice is if you feel passionate and led to work in the healthcare management sector, go for it. Everyone has their own story and path. Let me story and the advice I share on this channel serve as a testament that it is very possible to work in the healthcare management space. Be patient and proactive in seeking opportunities. All the best!
