  • F. Tárrega (1852 - 1909) Recuerdos de la Alhambra, transcription for solo harp by Helena Ricci
Unedited recording @ Milton Court Concert Hall, London, May 2019
Considered by many as the father of classical guitar Francisco Tárrega composed his Memories of the Alhambra while staying in Granada in 1896. He was inspired by the fountains of the Alhambra, the thirteenth-century palace and fortress famous for its elaborate display of Arab architecture. The composer musically represented the flowing water of the gardens by the continuous tremolo guitar technique.

This is the best harp rendition I've heard of this tonight (and I've listened to many). I appreciate your personal interpretation, slowing down in places and refusing to play it note-by-note mechanical. This is a piece of music that deserves life breathed into it, so that the audience understands the import of the emotion behind the original music.

Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to mean and I am so glad you enjoyed it, such a beautiful piece indeed and I personally think it comes alive on the harp very much. All best and take care
