    Great tutorial! The only thing I do differently is staple the back of the frame at the 4 corners to hold the frame together (couple of staples in each corner). I then remove the staples from the front and fill with wood putty, let it dry and sand, paint, stain or make a distressed look to the frame.

    This is my second time watching your video (I don't think I commented the first time, which was a while ago). While I really wanted to put a saying on a pennant style banner, I couldn't find any except a rectangle, but I did find canvases on sale at Hobby Lobby and I remembered I had seen your video so I bought the set of canvases and came back to watch you again. Just want to thank you for this great tutorial. I just hope my husband will run to Lowes or Home Depot to get me that handy dandy staple remover.

    Who knew there was an actual frame under there?! Thanks for sharing, I tried this myself today. I like things as simple as possible so I cut the canvas on the frame (without pulling the staples out) and just glue white card stock to the back to neaten up. You wouldn't even know there was extra staples and canvas on there!

    Awesome tutorial. You made it look easy. I have a ton of designs I've been using to make wood signs. This looks so much quicker and easier than cutting and sanding the wood, painting or staining, then using sign vinyl as-is or as a template. I'm definitely going to give your method a try.

    I wanted to make a suggestion on how to get it done faster, cheaper, and have total control of the dimensions. Instead of disassembling canvas frames a manual miter box and saw us like 10 bucks, then just buy small s4s boards and cut the 45° miters with the box, just don't use the big cheap framing saw that comes with the box, pick up a flush cut pull saw, about 8 inches long with fine teeth.
    Alternatively if 80 or so bucks is worth it for more speed, a smallish powered miter saw, and with that you aren't stuck with only squares and rectangles you can do triangle frames or hexagons or octagon
    Then just cut and staple canvas from a fabric store, gesso if needed.
    This way takes a bit more money in gear to start but quickly overtakes in output speed and profit margin if you are doing it for selling

      Jonathan D hi Jonathan thank you for your comments! You are right, that’s another way to do this 😊👍🏽 It would take considerably more space and resources than the average crafter might have at the beginning, but is definitely worth exploring if someone wants to do many of these 👍🏽

    So to answer the question of what IS a reverse canvas, it's putting a design of some kind on the canvas and then putting the canvas on the reverse side of the frame? Pretty neat idea. You could also have put that same design on the front of the canvas without the hassle of removing staples, but you wouldn't have the frame effect. You would only need a support of some kind behind it when pressing the material to it.

    • @LearnWithLisette
      @LearnWithLisette  6 лет назад +1

      Hi there! Yes, you are right, you could put this on the canvas itself, but in my experience, it can get stretched or misshapen when trying to press. Also, many people like this budget friendly way to get a frame without having to do any woodworking 😊 Hope you liked the video, thank you for your comment ❤️👍🏽

    Hi...Thanks so much for this informative video..I plan on doing a reverse canvas but I wanted to use 651 vinyl! Have you used this in addition to the HTV? Can it be done? Do I have to seal it or will the 651 just stick to the canvas? Thanks

    • @LearnWithLisette
      @LearnWithLisette  4 года назад

      Hi there! No, you don't have to seal 651, and you can certainly use it (its cheaper!) - I have just found it more difficult to weed 651 with intricate designs. I may do a tutorial in the future showing how to make that process easier. Also, one of my tricks is to still press the 651 on the canvas to help it stick better, very briefly! (shhhh that's our little secret! LOL) *Another video coming soon* Haha

    I watched your video quite a few times as I am starting my first reverse canvas (and quite nervous I will mess it up!) did you remove the staples from the front of the frame as well? and do you press on the front side or back side of the canvas (is there a difference in pressing?)

      Hi there! In my experience, the only difference is the way the canvas looks (when pressing on the front or back). The front is definitely shinier, the back is more of a cloth look. I press on the front side very briefly. I don't remove the staples on the front, I don't mind the way they look. :)

    You don’t fill in those tacky little hole on the corners? Especially when selling?

    • @LearnWithLisette
      @LearnWithLisette  6 лет назад +1

      Jennifer Taylor No I don’t.. I find that once it’s painted it’s barely noticeable and I’ve never had anyone comment on it. With that said, I have seen some people fill it with wood filler then paint over it so there’s always that option.

      Hi :) Thanks for your lovely comment! I'm super limited on space so this is a long cube shelf from Ikea LOL... My heat press is this one: amzn.to/2ZdvS83 .. However, I have not used the extra attachments, so I would probably buy this one if I did it over again: amzn.to/2XdIDxx

    Don't own a heating station. Can use the iron to do this project?

      Hi! Yes you can, just press for a few seconds over the text, you can use a pillowcase or pressing cloth to protect the canvas

      Hi! Yes the links are in the video description but I do need to refresh one because the staple remover isn’t available at Home Depot anymore.

    I'm only 8 minutes in...You are making me nervous cutting like that!!! I'm a quilter and we cut fabric this way, but we would put the ruler on the left so you aren't crossing your arms. Be safe!!!
