You're right, the concept of circle casting predates Wicca. But the Wiccan magic circle Is inspired by cerimonial magick, not by tradcraft. The concepts of "halloweeng the circle" or "laying the Compass round" are actually inspired by the Wiccan circle.
The poetry in this circle casting is beautiful. I am curious, is this something that you will likely carry forward through your witchcraft journey? I've been stepping away from Wicca more and more, as well. There are aspects of Traditional Witchcraft that I struggle with quite a bit. This may sound silly but I have a hard time with the Witch Father figure and the baneful areas of magic. Not that I believe I will be hurt or the rule of three will get me. It is more that I believe when we interact with the negative it sort of sticks around. The more you do it, the more it impact you. This is sort of like cognitive therapy and our thought processes. The more negative we think, the more we feel those effects.
I believe this is is something I will continue! Not for every working but when I want to something more formal, this is my go to. This is a very adapted version already of what I used to do. Now for you, I love that you're questing your beliefs! You definitely do not have to do baneful magic or believe in the Witch Father, and I completely understand where you're coming from with "The more negative we think, the more we feel those effects". I have definitely found that to be true so it is a type of magic I generally avoid unless I the pros outweigh the cons.
Absolutely loved this Hannah! I feel exactly the same as you in regards to dewiccaning my practice!
