- Wanna know HOW TO GET OVERLAYS ON YOUR CONSOLE? Let me show you how to create overlays and also alerts when you're streaming from your console. Xbox or Playstation doesn't matter, with a FREE Twitch extension you can create free overlays for your stream without worrying about OBS or other streaming software. Overylay Expert runs right in the browser so there is no additional load on your PC or console, in fact, other than the initial setup there is NO PC required to run the overlays. That also means you can do your OVERLAYS with NO CAPTURE CARD or additional software downloading required. This is a step by step video showing you how to take your stream to the next level with overlays! If you're looking to start streaming, a beginning streamer, or even a seasoned veteran, Overlay Expert can be a great solution for all of your alerts and overlays. (Keep in mind this overlay can only been seen by viewers who are watchingg from their pc. Mobile device viewers will not see the overlay! Overlays AND Alerts??? Who would think?

How do you transfer the overlay TO the CONSOLE
@@Andre69420 The overlay does not run on the console. it runs in the web browser on top of the twitch channel. The twitch extension is what handles the running of the overlay. That's the part where you go to twitch and creator dashboard and enable the extension. You won't see the overlay on the console.
@@ChowlbPlays will others see it? because hwen i logged in from my phone, i couldn't see it
@@Andre69420 twitch extensions don't work on mobile devices. The mobile apps don't have a full desktop browser which is required by the extensions.
@TheApocalypse448 so the Xbox camera is part of the console stream. When you broadcast from the Xbox directly you can enable the camera and it’s part of the stream. You don’t send it separately to the overlay. The overlay is like a mask that runs on top of the twitch channel in the browser. You may need to play around with position if you’re putting a border around the camera. It’ll just be an empty box in the overlay that the camera section of the screen hopefully fits into. Hope that makes sense.
This was absolutely amazing. I’ve watched hours of RUclips and learning this as a new upcoming possible streamer and you are the only one who went into detail for each layer each title each example and explained what the functions do so instead of countless errors I can watch this over an over for a guide to help me and get you views and I also follows and hit the bell for more again thank you so much for doing this and your dedicated time for us. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

This video was 3 years ago so I’m not sure if you’ll see this comment but my overlay won’t upload no matter what I do. I did exactly what that post did and it still isn’t uploading and is taking forever
When you say uploading do you mean adding the images to overlay expert? They may be having some issues so you could give it a few hours and try again.
@@ChowlbPlays no I meant it wasn’t connecting on my twitch. I found out that I just had to use a laptop and it worked. The overlay didn’t work when I streamed on my Xbox which was upsetting
@@RedDaddy328were you watching the stream on mobile when you say it’s not working? The overlays won’t work on mobile only on a full browser. They also are not baked into the stream so they can’t be saved with the VOD
@@ChowlbPlays So I can’t see them in the stream? Like I won’t see them on my screen while I’m playing?
@RedDaddy328 if you mean on your actual Xbox screen no you won’t see it. It’s not feeding back to your Xbox. It’s only overlaying on top of the twitch stream in browser.
How you add a donation system on this or can you make a video on it that would be great ??
Overlay expert uses Stripe for donations. Under the alerts there should be a ‘stripe’ section that will link your stripe account to overlay expert. I don’t get any donations so I havent tested or set this up personally.

Thank you so much for this!!! It was so helpful!! I just had one question, is there a way to implement an overlay for the chat? Like have the chat appear on the twitch stream
It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at the later options for this. You can look through the layers to see if there is an overlay option for chat. I don’t remember seeing one back on the day. But it’s been a couple years.
wow that was the most easiest and simple toutuaril to follow I cant wait to try it out. 👍😁

You should be able to. It may take some tweaking to get it positioned correctly depending on how your webcam is set up. Assuming you're using the a webcam with the xbox or the ps5 camera. The webcam border would just be another layer in your overlay and the webcam would kind of sit behind it. if that makes sense.

@@themetalgamingzone technically you could do a lot with it. If you made a video or something in Davinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere, you could export it as a gif and upload it. So you could make anything you wanted. You could even make an animated gif overlay for your webcam border if you wanted. It's really just how involved and creative you can get.

hey man, thx SO MUCH! I cant explain how happy i am to look some what professional! Also just a question, does this show viewers on all platforms? (mobile, console, ect.)
Unfortunately only on pc. Since it’s a twitch extension it needs an actual web browser to run the overlay code. That doesn’t exist in the mobile platforms. Hoping twitch will find a way around that in the future. But at least it’s something!
@@ChowlbPlays is there anything that shows up on other platforms?
@@TheCuteInExecute currently nothing will show on the mobile apps. Twitch will need to enable those extensions and as of now they haven’t chose to do so unfortunately.

Loved the video! Great explanation! But I have one little issue, when I finished up my stream I was able to see the overlay and all however when I went back to the video or the already ended stream it didnt show it in the video. Is this normal? Are you only able to see it live?
Unfortunately it is only available live. the overlays require a full browser in order to leverage some scripting on the backend to be displayed. Since that is the case, they're actually running on TOP of the channel window in the browser and are not embedded in the video feed going to twitch. Therefore Twitch can't record what isn't actually part of the stream itself.
This tutorial was great used. It spent bout 4 hours working on mine it looks great!! Then found it won't show on mobile devices hope I saved someone some time.
Unfortunately that’s the case for any twitch extension. For some people that’s the only option and we take what we can get. If you don’t mind spending a bit of money then lightstream will show up anywhere. They’re basically a middle man that you stream to and they send it to twitch in your behalf. That way the overlay is actually embedded in your stream instead of a twitch extension that runs in browser. Thank you for your feedback.
To clarify I’d recommend Streamlabs console it’s much cheaper and it does the same thing as lightstream but simplifies it drastically
Ugh thank you so much!!!!!
You so welcome!
the thumbnail killed me💀💀 great vid tho 🙏

Bro thank you for this video I’m new to twitch and new to streaming so this video was fantastic. How do u make or find the starting soon screen or BRB screen
You’re welcome! I made them in a free program called GIMP. It’s a photoshop clone. I put a link to my google drive with those overlays if you wanted to use them. They’re not great but it’s a start. The link is in the description if you need it.
@@ChowlbPlays bro thank you and using ur process for the animated follow I can do the same with like a sub a cheer and use different giphys for each one ?
@@Whamkeepit sure can. As long as there’s an option for the action type (sub, follow, etc) you can make a separate gif for each one.
Thanks for this!
Just wondering,: I can control the diffrent overlays from the twitch app on mobile or do i need to have the stream open in a browser on pc?
And how do i know when i get new followers, bits etc?
Well not technically different overlays, but you can kinda switch ‘scenes’ like I showed with twitch commands. You can fire the twitch commands from any chat window, mobile or pc, but keep in mind twitch extensions don’t work on mobile so you won’t see them or alerts. If you have the stream open on a browser on the pc then you’ll see everything and if you have sounds on your alerts you’ll be able to hear/see the alert when it happens. It should also show in your chat as well I believe.
Great vid! But do you have to keep open pc? Or can I close it?
Hey! No you sure don’t! It runs in the twitch page on the clients session. Nothing needed from your end other than the initial setup. As RonCo says, set it and forget it!!
Life saver! I have a question. Is it possible to add a cam layer from a PS5?
You would be streaming directly from the ps5? Then the cam is part of the stream itself. You can design an overlay with the cam area in mind but you can’t add it after the fact. The camera and the gameplay are all embedded together.
Hi, this is such a great video thank you so much it helped me out a lot. But when I want to activate it it keeps loading and it doesn't activate for some reason 😅
go through the extensions and try uninstalling and reinstalling the extension.
Thank you!

@@ChowlbPlays Hey! just a question I set up my overlay on overlay expert. Added it to my twitch & when i was streaming last night & checked my stream on PC I could see my overlay.
Now when I am watching my stream back on Twitch - it doesnt show the overlay? is this something that happens ? does it only show overlay when I am live ?
thanks ! twitch account Codyup2g
@@codyup2g the twitch extensions run over top of the channel window during a live stream. The twitch VOD can only record what is actually embedded in the stream. Since the extension isn’t embedded in the stream and simply running over top of the browser it can’t be recorded.
@@ChowlbPlays ahhh right that makes perfect sense, thanks for clarifying.
@@ChowlbPlays do you have any tips for chatting to stream chat & my teammates not being able to hear me ?
Great Explanation! I got couple of questions tho:
1- How can I add RUclips handle? All I see is twitch and Twitter handles
2- do I have to keep my laptop on to have the extension during streaming? I mean after I adjust all these settings then I go to my PS5 and start streaming if my laptop is turned off would the extension be visible? Thanks!
Since it’s a twitch extension there’s no connection to RUclips to get someone’s RUclips handle. They wouldn’t evens able to see the stream through RUclips, let alone the extension. To your second point the extension runs in the users browser so you don’t have to have anything running to keep it up!

Great video and i did everything you said! But i have a problem, for some reason at my livestreamsbme only can see the overlay, not my viewers, can you help me??
They’re probably on mobile. Unfortunately twitch extensions don’t show on mobile. They’re not baked into the stream but overlaying the web page in the browser. Since the app isn’t a full browser the extension won’t show.
Great video! Just one question though, is there any way to make dynamic text appear, like subscriber goals, that you can update anytime?
I’m not sure if you can do that or not. I know obs does that by reading a text file on your pc. But there’s no way for this to read a text file. It can read follower and subscriber counts but I dont know anything like a goal can be done.
@@ChowlbPlays I did some testing and I got it to work in a very roundabout way. You basically update it in the editor mid stream and force refresh it for the viewers, so it kind of works. Thanks for the answer though, helped me to know where to look :)
@@Excelciar oh nice, i was going to suggest that, but wasnt sure you wanted to keep editing the overlay, i was thinking too complicated about auto updating...over engineering as usual. That's great!

I do have a question: I know that an overlay made on Overlay Expert won’t be seen on mobile devices, only on the web browser version of Twitch (am I right?). Is there a way to save and transfer that overlay you just made somehow?
you're correct, only on a web browser. When you say save it and transfer it, do you mean save it out of Overlay Expert?

You can add as many layers as you want. just keep in mind if you're using chat commands, you'll have to have all layers visible when you save the overlay, and each time you start your stream you'll have to put in the commands in order so that the layers hide and show as you need.
Thank you so much
@@ChowlbPlays thank you so much it works
Is there a way you make a video on how to set up a donation, follower, subscribers goal tab on overlay expert since I'm new to it
I did the follower alert in the video, the subscriber should be the same, you just need to choose the subscriber event instead of the follow event. As for donations, overlay expert is using a different third party payment vendor, i haven't set up donations through them, but I know the normal donations won't trigger anything in overlay expert.
This helped me a ton! Thank you so much! Does this work for mobile Viewer's too?
Unfortunately twitch extensions don’t work on mobile at this time. Most extensions require some type of browser to leverage some browser side code to work. The mobile twitch app doesn’t have that available.
Would lightstream work for mobile viewers 🤔
@@holywoodyamaha22 I believe it does. Not sure how much it costs. But I think you stream to light stream, then they add their overlay and send it to twitch for you. So it’s embedded in the stream already like using OBS
@@ChowlbPlays Thanks for the quick reply, I really appreciate all the help! I belive it's $8 a month for 720@30fps

Unfortunately the extensions are not embedded in the stream, they're running on top of the channel in the browser. Since it's not actually PART of the stream video, it can't be saved to the VOD.
@@ChowlbPlays yes I found this out apron further review lol. thank you tho! love the overlay while im streaming !!!
Hey, I think this might be an issue I see cause whenever I put 8000ms for the "Preview Animation" for something like a New Follower alert, it seems to only show me a 4000ms preview instead of my prefered 8000ms (8s)?? Is this just a default 4s preview? Also, massive respect to replying to comments 1yr later
It's been a while since i've messed with this, but there might be a max time on the alert. although 4 seconds seems pretty weak. It may be just a preview thing, but I would hope it would show the actual length so you can dial it in.
So the alerts, i can use commands in the chat to activate certain ones even from my phone ? I dont have a computer that i can stream from i can use one tho to set up the overlay expert but i use the chat on my phone while i stream from my console
should be able to, however the alerts and overlays (extensions in general) don't work on the mobile app. So you may be able to activate or deactivate scenes, but you wont see them on the mobile app.
like the backgrounds
Thanks for all the info! I was trying to show a friend the overlay I put up and I sent him a link to my stream and he said he couldn't see it. He tried on his phone as well as on the twitch app thru his Xbox. Is it a compatibility issue or should he be able to see it?? Thanks for your help
unfortunately the twitch extensions only work on a full browser. The twitch app and any console apps don't support the code necessary for the overlay.
@@ChowlbPlays gotcha. Now, there are streamers who's overlays I can see despite of watching via Mobile/ Twitch app on Xbox, is that because of their PC setup or something?
@@CredibleStar213 yes, they're using a capture card and a PC with OBS, or using something like i've done here, using remote play on a PC and OBS to capture the xbox without a capture card: ruclips.net/video/qMKWaYCS6vk/видео.html
i would love to use this extension but I don’t think it’s worth it if it doesn’t work for mobile viewers. Awesome video though! Great tutorial
totally get that, unfortunately for free, it's about the only option. If you don't mind paying there are a lot more opportunities that give you everything on mobile as well like streamlabs console and lightstream. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome video man! I have a question though. I have set up an overlay that works great but its not showing up when im viewing from my phone. I can see it on my pc though... any idea whats going on ?
I tried to explain at the end how these extensions don’t work on mobile devices. Wasn’t a great explanation and kinda hard to understand. @@ChowlbPlays may I ask you a question? If I set the brb scene with music, when I do the !brboff will the music also stop?
@@_ITALUKE_ hmm I’m not 100% sure on that one. Can you set music on overlay expert? Best advice is to try it and play around. Make a secondary streaming account just for testing so you can get everything sorted before going live on your main channel. Test test test.
I just made an extension through overlay expert I think it’s good and when I’m live the over lay shows on my stream but for the viewers they don’t see it, it’s set as overlay 1 and active I’ve been struggling on this for a while now I can’t figure out why the overlay is not showing for my viewers…. Any advice 😢??
I assume they’re watching on mobile. As of now, mobile doesn’t support twitch extensions. It needs to be a full browser.
Could I use this extension to read chat on my console while streaming or would I still need to look down at a phone or something for that?
You’ll still need a way to read chat. The overlays don’t feed back into the console you’re playing on.
Quick question do you need to have the computer still on for the background to stay on the stream?
no you sure don't, it runs in the browser for each person watching the stream on twitch.
Hello, first tks for the amazing video i´m streaming from my Ps4 and everything works except the alerts any idea what I might be doing wrong, thanks.
The only thing i can think of is to double check your alert layer you created in OverlayExpert, and check to make sure it is set as a timed event, and the event is selected as the type of alert you want (follow, donation, etc). Other than that it could have been an issue with the twitch API between Overlay Expert and twitch, that happens from time to time and be frustrating to troubleshoot.
@@ChowlbPlays tks i will try
@@ChowlbPlays hey again sorry to disturb you again but I was just wondering if the fact i´m using streamelements to give me the chat alerts will it mess with overlay expert alerts?
@@Father_of_Kos are you using that as an extension? Usually those are all through the APi. So it’s not like it’s intercepting it, you can use multiple api calling softwares without issue.
@@ChowlbPlays Thanks.
The tacoooos sign in the back tho
Tell me I’m wrong 🔥🔥
I know I’m late but is there a way I can get the exact backround you have? I can’t find a good one that works.
you can check the description, but it may have my name on it ..... :(
