I bought my '99 SR5 auto 5spd last year. There was so-so records of maintenance so I wanted to start fresh: Cleaned throttle body, replaced plugs/wires, replaced both O2 sensors (and reset CPU), replaced leaking car seals and valve cover seals, replaced all 4 ball joints (one was bad), replaced one axle (cracked boot), new tires and did other things. Now it's like new and I'm very happy with the Runner (my second car I use as my beater).
I just bought a 2000 4 runner for my wife. I drive it more than she does. I'm going to buy her another car and keep the 4 runner. Only give 2100 dollars for it. It's only 2 wheel drive. I changed the spark plugs and replaced the spark plug wires and boots. I just put new brakes and rotors. Next I'm going to replace the back bumper. Overall the car is in great shape.
Great find, I still have a 98 SR5 that I purchased new. Love that truck, presently at 143000 miles. Due to rust, I have to replace rear axel. Having a hard time finding one with out rust issues. Great video.
Thanks I appreciate it! I'm lucky living in CA as far as rust is concerned but we also pay a premium on the new and used market for these trucks out here so I guess its a double edged sword. Good luck on finding a good replacement axel!
Thank you! I was looking for quite awhile and stumbled across this one on accident but thats why I drove so far and called out for work lol. When you find a good deal on older 4runners that check out you really gotta hop on it. Best of luck and I'm sure you'll find one!
just in case you havent already tried buffing it out, toyota used a one step paint back then. you can just buff all that oxidation out on the hood. the roof is too far gone it looks though.
I meant to say my SR5 is an auto 4WD. Same color as yours, Jade Green with dark grey trim. It looks like your Runner is a Limited and you may have the digital temperature control vs manual. There is a company that rebuilds those digital controls if and when it stops working.
D Filice so I have the limited trim but have the manual AC since it is a '98. The 99-'02 runners in limited trim come with the digital AC. The 3rd gen runners had a refresh in 99 that gave them fog lights as an option, cup holders by the E-brake, and a different dash layout with vents, buttons, and AC control. I made a video recently where I swapped out my arm rest unit with one from a 2000 model. I highly recommend it if yours is a '96-'98. Thanks for the comments and watching my video!
Ryan, mine is a '99 which has the cup holders by eBrake and dash layouts but mine didn't come with foglights, but I have the plastic plugs. I may get the OEM foglights and replace the light stem with one that has the foglight switch. I don't them but it would be fun to complete it.
I personally never understood the limited over the SR5. I like the cloth seats over the leather. Toyota just learned how to make long lasting leather. And granted I live in the desert asshole Tucson AZ but leather sucks here. 115 degree heat makes those seats fryin pans.
Yeah I have mixed feelings but HATE the creme leather. Black and dark brown or red leathers are the best but black is always the best. Black cloth is really probably the best but I do appreciate a good leather seat.
@@ryanmoyer1 ha! I get that. I’m trying to sell my 4Runner but I’m always looking for content to help me with fixing mine up. So any content at this point I’ll take!
Man im looking hard for a 3rd gen 4runner but im looking for a 2.7 inline4 i dont care if its 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive any way to find one i have looked i found 2 but one doesnt want to get rid of it and the other one they want over 6 grand for it with almost 300k
RpmVlogs yeah man i found one yesterday a 2000 for $5500 with 200k on it and runs really good not much power but runs great my mechanic told me i can put another 200k with no problem at all im going to hang on to this truck thanks for your reply.
try not to leave water bottles in your car that will heat up and cool down..when they heat up they leach some nasty shit out of the plastic bottle and into your drinking water ..true story
Puchito puchito there's always going to be a better deal somewhere but finding a 1 owner with under 130k original miles and that thorough of a maintenance record is hard to come by
Yeah thats true , I have a 2001 with 145k and paid 2800$ and im slowly building it too make it a trial rig. keep posting vids on the build of you build it
Yeah 8k out the door. $7,200 before tax and reg but it is a lot for a '98. In cali it was a good deal for what it was but I know in other parts of the country and world 4runners don't hold their value near as well
2000 4runner here. Almost 300,000 miles, runs like a sewing machine, Had it from 60,000 miles. Great vehicle
They just WON'T quit!

They’re great vehicles!
totally worth 8K I'm up in Oregon my runner cost me 7200 all said and done but had a decent amount of surface rust
Finally a West Coast brother! Hahaha you understand how these Toyota 4x4s are valued on this side of the country
Dude I live right by there and actually saw that car for sale online. It's really clean.

You can find third gens, even limited and 4x4 for under 3k in decent shape. You just have to know how to look.
Not in NorCal if you care about mileage but it’s also different times now!

Nice video, hard to find them on these things oddly enough. Just bought an 02 SR5 with sunroof and everything and 130k miles on it today!

Lol you got swindled. I got a 96 4runner limited 4x4 with 170k in good shape for 2k. I live in Sonoma county.
Matt Leonard you got a great deal! I sold mine for $8,500 about a year later so I did good in my books.

I think the appeal here is this limited has the rear locking diff.
I need one
I'm jealous
Your truck is clean man, you plan on doing any mods to it?
Thank you! Yeah I've already done some mods, you can check them out on my channel
Hey man! What camera do you use when you shoot your videos? I'm a 4Runner-phile. :)
I was using a GoPro hero3
