Weren't they both born on the same day, but a year apart? That's probably why Bobby fell in love with LaToya. LaToya was born on the same day as her sister, Reebie. But a different year.
YES, both of those 2 GREAT musical families/Debarge and the Jacksons go ALL the way back to the LATE 70's. James and Janet got together, boyfriend and girlfriend. when James was 14, Janet was 12. it started with them calling each other Long-distance. Grand rapids/James to Los Angeles/Janet.

DeBarge family life was just sad. The dad was a monster and it’s nothing else to say. I could never understand why a person could do such horrible things to their own kids.

@@uptownnayrob I haven't seen anything near the hate for their father as it has been for Joe from the media. I've seen them attack the family but that usually let the kids talk about the father. They demonize Joe.
The Debarge's was never as UBER MAINSTREAM as The Jacksons were. Think about it. Debarge did crossover but not on the same level as a Michael Jackson. That is why their story is not as big of all their demons, sicko white father and issues beyond Black entertainment coverage of it.
@@AljIsHere128 True but it's not just them. They also never talk about the beach Boys dad who was a terror. It just seems like the trend is for the white boys to get a pass.
I soo enjoy watching The Unsung episode on Switch. The family abuse of The Debarge siblings always makes me sad and feel for their wounds they carry even into adulthood. Especially Bobby. I was sad to read of Tommy's passing last year and his poor health history. Genuinely talented indeed that family!
It's crazy to me that the Debarges had that light and bright appeal that the Jacksons would seem to covet but they couldn't escape the demons. Meanwhile, the Jacksons had 3 of the greatest artists of all time (Jackson 5, Michael and Janet). Two exceptionally talented families with dysfunction to spare. Them 70s and 80s, freebase and lean oh my 👀
I feel like the father was tormented outside of the home and then he took it out on the family, what abusers do instead of standing up to their tormentors. The father was a coward
I initially watched this while getting ready for work this morning. Had to watch it again tonight because it was so good God put his fingers and toes on the voice box of the DeBarge family. Their talent is/was ridiculous. Nay that falsetto took me too. Switch & The DeBarge so talented.

Good wonderful Sunday afternoon. I'm just seeing your story on Switch. I actually grew up with the Debarge family since the 7th grade and throughout the Debarge's career. If you want a real scoop on the younger ones Al,Randy,James, Chico,, I didn't hang around Bunny. But I was at church when James Debarge married Janet Jackson and what happened on their honeymoon day.
It's Just Sad&Horrible that these Painful AMAZING Teenagers and young MUSICIAN Adults Had NO THERAPY EARLY IN THEIR MUCH NEEDED LIVES. CAN You just Imagine The Amazing Decades Of History Making ALBUMS and SOLO HIT MAKERS The DEBARGE'S would have ACCOMPLISHED 😊
I truly hate that for the soo much of those deep seated family abusive which are now wounds carried into adult hood for them. I just hope that the newer generation of Debarges learn from the older to get help and healing for them.
The whole family was a study and mother's minister brother wasn't a help either. When she would leave the go back. Right before Barry White died they'd pay him $50,000 a pop to go to Brazil to talk.
I’m surprised when people bring up the DeBarges growing up in Grand Rapids they never mention fact that Al Green and his family grew up in Grand Rapids long before the DeBarges.
I I had heard that Bobbie and ingrams had a problem with each other. Bobby was a junkie and a problem witth the group. I agree with you that Bobby was a great falsetto better than Smokey and Prince. Eventhough Prince was not a true falsetto
IT'S another RUclipsr that read the story. Also about the debarges in their life was horrible. So sad he was better off leaving them.. then staying there with them. It wouldn't like he was taking care of them. It was a horrible man. My cousins had a father similar to him. He was better off leaving than staying also. Seeing that my aunt was on welfare while he was there doing nothing. What sexually abusing the children and beating my auntie. We never knew how much they went through. Into a couple of years ago. She really hid that s***. 🙆🏽♀️😡😔
