I have a 2018 black 340i xdrive, 6 speed manual. It is by far a great car to drive. I honestly don't know why anyone would purchase a sporty looking car without a manual- it's like eating a cake without frosting!
@@B58-Premo People who are braindead that lack the skill and comprehension on how to drive a manual would prefer and 8AT* Funny Enough I've seen more women with manual 340is then men.
These are finally coming back down in price, so my temptations are growing on wanting to get one. It's a shame they didn't sell well considering they're 3 pedals, 6 cylinders, have optional AWD, 4 doors rear vents, manual handbrake. You can't get something like this new anymore unless you go for an M3 or CT4 V Blackwing.
I think so. I like my 340 6MT. Its a great pairing with the B58. Overall I liked my manual E90 335xi better, but Even though the ZF8 is an amazing, faster gearbox, I like my 3 pedals.
I bought my 340i msport manual in December. I had a bully clutch stage 3 with a short shifter, catless downpipe and mhd stage 2. it's a wonderful car. I love it so much. can almost keep up with my dad rs5 on rolling start! :D
Looking at one of these now. Currently daily a 2017 WRX 6MT. As much as I love the manual I don’t really do much dedicating “enthusiast” drives- maybe because it’s winter. But this car seems to check all the boxes- fast, luxurious, beautiful, and comfy. My WRX is so stiff and rough it actually hurts my back to drive
I 100% recommend the 340i if you are looking for one. I have nothing but great things to say about them - they are a great all-around daily driver. Good luck with your search!
@@KareemKayy yeah I didn’t expect it to be comfy- but rather I didn’t expect it to be as uncomfortable as it was. I actually did end up getting a 2016 340i with the ZF and I absolutely love it. Zero regrets trading up
If you dislike how short this manual is geared, did you ever consider putting in a lower reduction diff to bring highway RPMs down? It's not like you're going to suffer off the line with how much power you have at your disposal.
Stumbled on this video when I was trying to see if there were any f30's that are manual cause looking online I have found few then realized you are in the DMV area. Great to see another DMV person reviewing cars!
I agree with your points. The ZF8 is objectively wonderful but I just enjoy the act of shifting. I think finding a 440 (that I have) is even rarer! I will have to give the short clutch mod a consideration
Great video! I have a 340i with a ZF8 and I cannot complain! It is buttery smooth, and I can from a manual BRZ. I definitely don’t miss stick when sitting in traffic and alot of my city driving, but when I find a nice windy road, I do miss the manual :(
Thank you! Agreed, for pure driving enjoyment the manual can’t be beat but for 99% of other daily driving duties the ZF8 is a fantastic transmission. All comes down to personal preference.
Hi! Thanks for the comment! Yes I do occasionally have a bit of a clunk when I go into second gear. I’m not really sure why that is but it hasn’t made any noises that have otherwise concerned me while shifting - so I’ve just chalked it up to being normal.
@@AutoAndrew I'm sure you both have read about the "clutch delay valve" that apparently is on the F3x and E9x manuals. I believe that has something to do with it. Similar to my GTI, I have to give it a little bit of gas to smooth out the shift from 1-2. Otherwise, yes, it can get a bit clunky and awkward of a shift.
I have the same thing, I thing it has to do with the gearing and so much low down torque. The manual only has 6 gears and 6 is overdrive. So yeah you have to give it some gas for smoothies or put in Eco mode 😆
Honestly it depends on your preferences. If you need a truck for the space, towing etc then get the Ram. However the 340 is more sporty and provides a better driving experience.
Nice car bro! I feel the same way as you I think the manual is rare. And definitely more fun and engaging to drive. The auto has its benefits as well. Faster, and better MPG. But Im not trying to drag race anyone. 😆. I saw a video that not engaging the clutch all the way down could cause premature wear? So does this device just keep the clutch from engaging fully?
Thank you! I’m assuming you’re referring to the BMS clutch stop? If so, I believe in a nutshell the part just shortens the distance for clutch engagement by eliminating some of the slack in clutch travel from the factory. It shouldn’t cause any premature wear since it’s just using clutch travel space that was already there.
My biggest gripe with the car by far. Hold down the DSC button for 5 seconds and it will turn off. Wish that when you went into sport plus mode it turned off

Can you tell how the xdrive affects the driving experience? It seems like most cars with the manual for sale are xdrive, strangely.

Under heavy shifting when letting go of the clutch quickly. Is it just me. Or I hear a slight high pitch squeak. Just when really banging in gears ..

Hey! Fellow 340i 6 MT - do you have trouble getting a smooth 2nd gear? Only thing I can figure to get it smooth is to shift early in the revs.

Did these come with the clutch delay valve that e90's came with?
Is it true that only the F30(sedan) 340 comes with a manual and the F31(combi) 340 does not?
If you had to pick would you get a 340i manual again or pick a 2020 ram 1500 with the Hemi?

Anyone knows how to disable the rev match … I just picked up a 6 Speed 340i RWD in Canada and I can never seem to turn off the auto rev match
Only way to do it is put the car in sport plus and disable the stability/traction control. Otherwise it’s active in all other modes.

Absolutely. Add a set of snow tires and it’s an almost perfect winter car. Highly recommend!

2016-2018 is the best because the b58 engine. 2018 was last year for 6MT
Not at the current market price. When this car gets close to $10k beater price. Yes
Gonna be another 5 years at least for that; by then gas will probably be at $6/gallon and the tech will have aged to being a nuissance.
