My biggest unpopular opinion... I dont buy kpop albums simply because I dont consider them proper albums worth my money. The listening experience of kpop albums is no where near the level of artistry and enjoyment of what I consider album worthy, and no pokemon idol photo card is gonna convince me to buy them. In comparison to western artists like The Weeknd, Tyler The Creator, Taylor Swift, Beyonce where their albums not only have hits but feel like a full body of work that is cohesive, I'd rather spend my money on them. I stream kpop and the genre is almost like a campy guilty pleasure, but not worth spending my money on.
THIS!! Also let's be real, an album with 6 songs worth the same as a 12 song album? And companies LOVE to promote an 8 song album then have like the last 3 songs be remix and 2 instrumentals. Nah, next. The buying of albums in Kpop also has ruined the market in terms of the actual benchmark of how successful an artist/groups are. Bulk buying just for the freebies of gambling for that photocard is wild. Let alone buying albums for the potential of getting into fansigns. I'd rather stream too.

Besides the fact that lot of artists now make 1-2.5 minute songs and there are 2-6 songs on the ep, not a lot of groups make actual albums, and a lot of it is solely music to dance to and not actual enjoyable quality music. I personally buy albums, although I’m very picky and it’s like I have a lot of albums but not a lot of newer ones. I like nmixx. Why would I pay 30$ to have photos, a pc and two songs on the cd. Or an ep with 5 songs but I only like two of them. That’s majority of kpop now. And when groups make full length albums (like twice, red velvet, exo, stray kids, nct) people complain that it’s noise or filler music so they tend to make less of them, which again, waste of money

OMG THE HYUNA AND DAWN ONE. Like I LOVE LOVE LOVE HYUNA and I think idols should 100% be allowed to date, but I feel like there should still be certain “rules” in place. Dawn was my bias in pentagon and I still listened to his solo music and kind of drifted from the group, but I feel like them announcing the relationship, being kicked out, and promoting all that stuff together did NOTHING for his career. Honestly I felt like it was a little selfish. Again like idols should be able to freely date, they’re people. If we can date why can’t they? But at the same time we can’t ignore something we know won’t change that quickly. Hyuna had nearly a decade (or over?) long career with plenty of die hard fans that would constantly support her. Dawn was two years in and his group just started getting recognition and fame that year. He didn’t have a stable fanbase yet. And of course when you’re just starting to blow up and boom all of a sudden news drops that you’re dating one of the biggest stars it just seems too timed, it seems odd and like a grab for attention. Personally, I obviously don’t think that’s what it was. But I feel like there wasn’t a fair share of lose. Hyuna didn’t have much to lose. She lost her company. That was it. And immediately joined another. She had ten years of hard work and loyal fans behind her. Dawn literally had everything to lose. And that’s why he was always labeled as “Hyuna’s boyfriend” which sucks because he’s actually a VERY talented and gifted artist. If he had more time to garner that loyalty it would’ve been different. And while this is more extreme in kpop, I think this applies to everyone. Like for example me personally, I had no idea who Olivia Rodrigo was and for the longest only knew her as the girl who battled Sabrina carpenter for that off brand 2008 Zac efron. And while I guess it worked in her favor, it’s still a label that’s always hung over her head. And while in America you can make music about battling for a man, it doesn’t work like that in Korea
