Stay Heavy! Cheers!
Rory Gallagher was not too bad either .gone at 47 to early
@@chrisscotney4124 true. 🤘
Blackmore was number 1 in 1970s. His playing and tone were original, not only your regular pentatonic. But i have no idea why did you put this piece of his crazy playing😂. There are so many great footages of his improvisation on RUclips.
a lot of clips are copyrighted. cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT 😁.
Well said !
Yesss Black more no1 70s
I don’t think so. Gary was number 1 in 1970s.
Frank Marino, Gary Moore and Buck Dharma made the list? You, Sir, are a Hero!
haha, thanks. ;)
Thank God you put Ritchie Blackmore the best of the best!
Cheers!
Yeah, he is. Cheers from Germany : - )
Nowhere near as good as Van Halen . He’s good but never got hairs on my neck standing up.
@@studio-flash I think Blackmore has a much better sense of melody than EVH.
Очень часто бывает,что о нем даже не вспоминают,а жаль
Glad to see you included KK Downing. Everyone always focuses on Glenn Tipton and forgets what a monster shredder KK is. With that said, Blackmore, Iommi, and Roth are my favorites.
Cheers!
I heard someone saying that his solo on Beyond the realms of death is the first modern metal solo
KK is a monster guitarist! Sure, he’s 1000 times sloppier than Glenn, but KK really wrote some of the best songs and solos of the time (and he was probably the first metal player to get really aggressive with the whammy bar)
I would like to dedicate this video to the memory of my brother, Taso Zioulas, who passed away one year ago yesterday. Thanks to him, our record collection during the '70s included many albums that feature all of these guitarists (except Randy Rhoads and Gary Moore who became known to us by 1981). These works served as a major influence to me when I started playing guitar in 1980, and my continued fascination with hard rock and heavy metal was set in stone. Thanks for highlighting these guitarists Jim!
Thank you and RIP Taso Ziolas.
Rest in peace, Taso
You had an awesome brother. My bro, who also passed a few years ago, bought me my 1st guitar. All the best🤘
Sorry for the loss of your brother, may his memory be eternal.
I'm so happy that you had included Brian May of Queen, as I consider them a hard rock band who have obviously done other things outside the genre. Also, being that it is Brian's 76th birthday today, that was supercool.
yeah, definitely one of the most influential guitarists of the decade. :)
Queen always will be a inspirational band for Power Metal
@@KiraReminiec9399 I agree.
Actually, it is well documented that Queen was “one of the most varied heavy metal bands” of the 70s.
Uli is one of my favorites. After years I'm finally starting to work out the lead parts to Sails of Charon and it's teaching me so much.
legendary song!
That song, is such a bad ass song Uli really tears it up. Sails Of Charon is a classic.
☮️
My favorite era of the Scorpions. Great stuff.
Catch Your Train and Longing For Fire are 2 others I dig from Uli along with Sails.
Guitarists come and go but for me Ritchie Blackmore & Jeff Beck are always at the top 😊
Agreed
Jeff Beck❤
Cheers!

Ce sont tous des Dieux de la guitare mais j'ai un faible pour MISTER RITCHIE BLACKMORE 🎸😎
Cheers
@@RuthlessMetalYT ✌✌😎😎
Favorite from this list is probably Blackmore and Tipton/Downing, but I liked to Michael schenker get some recognition too!
Cheers!
Great stuff and thanks for not forgetting Robbo and Gorham shredding Emerald as you showed. I would nominate Ronnie Montose and Pat Travers to this group.
As well as Andy Powell & Ted Turner (Wishbone Ash)
How about Reale and Ventura of Riot.
@@thomasfarmer1730
My first concert in 1974 was Wishbone Ash and Robin Trower 🤘✌
part 2. ;)
*RITCHIE BLACKMORE..!!*
👊😎
Cheers!
I think Tony iommi and blackmore, randy rhoads and van halen! I love ted nugent and alex lifeson too!
Cheers!
Great list! I miss:
- Andy Powell, Ted Turner and Laurie Wisefield (Wishbone Ash)
- Rory Gallagher (Solo, Taste)
- Robert Fripp (King Crimson)
- Andy Latimer (Camel)
- Leslie West (Mountain)
And many more. 70s is my favourite era ❤
We'll see if I do a part 2. Cheers!
@@RuthlessMetalYT Sounds great! Hoping to see It. Another suggestions:
- Mick Box (Uriah Heep)
- Duane Allman (Allman Brothers)
- Alvin Lee (Ten Tears After)
- David Gilmour (Pink Floyd). Not sure if appeared in your list.
- Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac)
- Johnny Winter (Solo)
- Steve Ray Vaughan (Solo)
- Roy Buchanan (Solo)
- Steve Hackett (Génesis)
- Steve Howe (Yes)
Manny Charlton (Nazareth)
Great list
Cool video. Nice selection of clips. 70s is my favorite era of Judas Priest. Although they started in the 70s, I tend to think of Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads more as 80s guitar heroes.
EVH late 80's, but mostly 80's
Cheerios!
@@chrisdinunno1737 Greetings Chris. Simple correction; VanHalen (1978) VanHalen II (1979) Women and Children First (1980) Fair Warning (1981) Diver Down (1982) and 1984 (1984) are all EARLY 80s. Although I like Sammy Hagar, the David Lee Roth years are by far my favorites. 😃
Ace frehley of kiss from 75 to 79 influenced millions to play the guitar. Happy he is on the list
Cheers!
He may not be the most innovative or the most technical but if you listen to those 70's Kiss albums he played for the song and never ever ever put together a bad solo. And though I've heard Page called the king of the repeating lick I'd have to give Ace that title.
He was absolutely one of Rock's best in the 70s.
Fantastic! Great Guitarrists! What a sound!!! Missing Ronnie Montrose from the list.
If I make a part 2. ;)
So glad you had Frank Marino on here, he's maybe the least known but what a musician!!!! Rock On Man!!!
Cheers!
His Live album from 78 is in my top 10 live albums all time.

Great List! Blackmore was insane or genius, but Beck is on a whole other level.

I saw Uli Jon Roth live at Rock Hard Festival some years ago, a total experience, man is a god on the guitar. Michael Schenker was headlining that very same festival this year, but ehile also great Uli is on another level
Cheers!
Fantastic list, made you realize how many guitar heroes there really were in the 70s, and how many of them were reaching their peaks before EVH as well!
way too many hehe Cheers!
Mick Bolton of UFO ( 1970 - 1972 ) , Tony Bourge of Budgie, Rory Gallagher, Fast Eddie Clark, Peter Willis ,
yes part 2 is coming
Nice! KK, Beck, and Iommi are my personal favs of this decade.

Pat Travers was always one of my favorites as well.
Iomi and Rory Galagher
@@marcinlampkowski573 Rory Gallagher was always a big favorite of mine

Super happy and surprised you managed to put Uli Jon Roth & Randy Rhoads in here. I knew that you would get the typical faves of most people, but Buck Dahrma too! Thank You!

Super happy to see the often-forgotten Buck dharma included also!!
Thank you for giving ACE FREHLEY the credit he deserves ! He is and will always be 1 of the best guitar players to have played!
Cheers!
Long live Ace🙂
Great selection you've got there. I miss Jimmy Page though. Keep up the good work.
he was removed due to copyright.
Of course, no one ever talks about the most under appreciated axe slinger of all, the mighty MICK BOX of Uriah Heep. The dude is still slinging out great riffs and licks.
cheers!
Agreed 🙏
Great list , I would add a few people tho 😁 like Leslie west, Mick box , Graham Oliver , Paul Quinn, and of course Fast Eddie Clarke.🤟
Part 2
Excellent list. I always look forward to your videos!
Thanks man
I'm totally into your playlists on Spotify, tons of songs I've never heard before, thanks! 🇧🇷
yeah, I spent way too much time putting 'em together. :D
David Gilmour and Jimmie Page.
Rock on!!🤘
Cheers! 🤘
🤘Michael Schenker is my favorite guitarist.👍
Cheers!
Michael is the man. For tone vibrato feel intensity his use of the wah-pedal.
Schenker always but especially in the 70's was at the top. Just listen to what he did with UFO every solo is a gem.
For me it is Force It through Assault Attack including Lovedrive every solo and riff was special.
Wowhh my man, allmost all my favorite players in this excellent vid. Thank so much for posting...Chapeau...!
thank you! part 2 is coming up soon.
Great work as always, man!

Toni Iommi, Ace Frehley and Allex Lifeson are my favorite guitarists from the 70s. But there are so many greats on this list. Thanks for posting.

Great video kid, glaring ommisions Paul Kossoff, Bernie Marsden, Micky Moody, Manny Charlton, Rory Gallagher, Jan Akerman, Gary Rossington, Dicky Betts, Carlos Santana.
yeah part 2 coming soon. it's a metal channel after all so if they are too soft then they get excluded here. haha Cheers!
Excelent video !!

Your content is amazing, ruthless metal. Keep it up. And definitely, some of these guitar players developed the metal genre. Tony Iommi is one of the best guitarist in the 70's
thank you! Cheers!

Uli Jon Roth is one of the most underrated guitarist of all time
He is pretty highly rated though.
In my opinion North Americans overlook him
Solid. Fast Eddie Clarke and Eric Bell, too.
yes, maybe if I do a part 2 some day. :)
Nice list! Some kick ass guitar work on display
Cheers
🤘wow Incredible set list🤘of Master of guitar🤘
Thanks
These guys are some of “The” guitar hero’s. Guys who could put more feeling and emotion into a single note than a lot of the modern guys with their aimless noodling. These guys command of the instrument is staggering and they were able to coax sheer magic from it. Listen & learn children, listen & learn.
Cheers!
Very true
checking it out, as you suggested lol well done!
Cheers!
You did it again bro! Love your content
thanks boss
Happy to see Uli Roth get some credit!! In my opinion one of the best of all time!! 🤘🤘
yeah he is amazing. 🤘
I was fortunate to see most of these iconic guitarist play live during the greatest era of hard rock (the 70’s). Number 1 on my list based on live performances is the still great Michael Schenker. So underrated (if rated at all) amongst the so called mainstream critics. Strangers In The Night (1979 live album) showcases Michael’s vast skills…and is widely considered one of the best hard rock live albums. I’m also a big Uli (scorps) and buck (BOC) fan.
Cheerios!
The duo-guitar solo of Emerald, just fantastic.
Yes so good
Great list, you got most of the Guitar hero of that great decade. I missed three names, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour and Manny Charlton.
Jimmy Page was removed due to copyright.
I wasn't expecting it, but part of me was still hoping Robin Trower might show up on your list. Can't list everyone.
yeah maybe in a part 2. :) If I do one, 1980s next...
Great list....fly to the rainbow live is the most beautiful...uli jon Roth
Cheers!
Great live but missing the beautiful acoustic beginning from the album.
Great list
Cheers!
I pretty much agree with you. The only ones that I think are over-rated are Perry, van Halen and Nugent. I'd like to add Rory Gallagher to the list. Also, not really rock, but for amazing shredding before shredding was a thing, Al DiMeola. Take it easy
Al DiMeola brought jazz to rock. Wonderful musicianship.
@@patvanderreest7416 I always tell guitarists that want to shred to listen to him, and see how to shred with color and emotion in your playing.
Cheers!
Cheers!
Dude you don't know much about music if you think Eddie Van Halen is overrated ! He can't the way the guitar was played ! Roy Gallagher and AL DeMeola changed music the way Mr. Van Halen did ! What grade did you finish 4th ?
Ritchie
Cheers!
great list
cheers!
Very cool that you showed Frank Marino after Eddie Van Halen. I finally saw EVH in 88 at Monsters of Rock. And while he was doing his solo I couldn't help but think I'd rather be seeing and hearing Frank. Yes, EVH did the finger tapping thing which he deserves a legacy for. But for those who did not see Frank. Whoa. He captured youthful energy like no other. Just listen to Ain't Dead Yet and you'll hear what I mean. It is fast but totally coherent...to the limit without it being speed metal and with feeling. And Uli Jon Roth and Michael. Yeah. Nod to all of the rest most of who I saw. But those three and Blackmore had the added X ingredient. Guitar wizards but with soul and feeling. Thanks for the post.
yeah they weren't in any particular order though but Part 2 is coming up soon.
Sorry eddie rules!
I've noticed in alot of these type video's no one mentions Alvin Lee,one of the greatest in my opinion.
Maybe so. Cheers!
So awesome to see Buck Dharma get some love here!
Cheers!
I always forget how amazing Frank Marini is, Thanks for the reminder!!!!
cheers!
Awesome heroes list for me!!!! But all in all wonderful beginning. I saw at the end about Hendrix and Page, I was so enamored by the others, I forgot about them 😂. Hendrix is the one who got me into playing, but I also like Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Jerry Garcia, Glen Tipton/K. K. Downing duo, and Tony Iommi. Some of my inspirations when playing guitar. Cheers!
Cheers!
one of my favs from the '70's is Todd Rundgren just for the motorcycle solo in Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell alone.
Man! The guitar work in that song sends shivers down my spine 🎸
Cheers!
Hell yeah you went back to a great decade.... Nice that you included Ted Nugent and Joe Perry ...
Yes Sir! Cheers!
Awesome list bro; what a decade! Discovered KISS in ‘77.
Cheers!
All these guitarists are great, well done. The guitarist that captures my ear and is so versatile is Buck dharma!! Buck has such a diverse bunch of chestnuts in his catalog. Thanks again for such a sweet video!!
thank you! Cheers!
With as many great guitarists as there have been over the years, it's easy to overlook some of them. One of those was Manny Charlton of Nazareth, who did the slide part on love hurts. Nazareth were pretty heavy,as was Mick Ralphs from Bad Company, and, while technically not a metal band,Albert Collins and Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd could both be heavy and even shred a little. "Saturday night special" rocked hard.
part 2 coming soon. Cheers!
I love Nazareth too!)
Great stuff! But missing Jimmy Page, Robin Trower, and Pat Travers.
Cheers!
Great list man!!!
thanks boss
In all the episode's you got them all! Cheers.
more incoming. ;) cheers
So sad that I wasn't one of the cool grade schoolers listening to KISS and AC/DC in the 70s. It was a cooler decade than I knew at the time.
Cheers!
Great selection! Cannot fault it. Its of course a shame about Page and Hendrix not being allowed although I would suggest Jimi is a 60's hero with him only being around in the 70s a few short months sadly. But Jimi's legacy is he inspired ALL the guitarists in your vid. Personally I miss Gary Moore's playing, just sublime.
yeah, youtube just wont allow people to post clips of them. hehe
Gary Moore could smoke Page. Not even close. Gary was a guitar prodigy early 70s.
Great list!!! You nailed it. Another guitarist I would have added is Ronnie Montrose.
part 2 is coming soon. 🤘
Showing some Rush love

Blackmore made the difference!

So many great players. Somehow whenever these guys get mentioned people always seem to forget the late, great Glen Buxton.
Yeah mate….never does he get any mention…and Mick Ronson (David Bowie) …..come to think of it Alice Cooper & David Bowie were both weirdo’s for their time in the 70’s😁

Oh! The good ole days of learning guitar and shreading it out with a cassette tape and learning mostly by ear and repetitave practice. First off, this is a great list and i wanna say awesome job to Ruthless Metal. I being one of the countless many who didnt make the list as many of us had other paths to travel. I my self studied as many guitarists as i possibly could at age 15 which would have been around 83 or 84. I won the GIT award for youngest soloist but my parents wouldnt let me go to LA to persue that dream so i made it happen for myself in my own hometown of brookhaven miss. I will say there were many who didnt make it to be famous but i did jam with al of the best in my area. There were so many amazing guitarists in that day so cheers to all the guys who played but never got that chance to be famous. Guitar isnt just a hobby, its more than a talent, its a lifestyle. So God bless all who are still playing and living that dream of guitarist. One day we will All be playing that Great Big Gig in the sky. 🙏❤🙏

Jimi Hendrix probably inspired every one of these guys

It was Neal schon not Santana playing most of the solos
And lead
A completely incorrect statement. Out of 20 plus Santana studio albums, Neal Schon only played in no more than 2….and aallll the way back in 1971 (Santana III) and Caravanserai 1972. And he wasn’t part of the original band that were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 1998.
