    I can’t find anything to gripe about. Well worth my hard earned money!
    It did add 70lbs to my tongue weight. I simply put the front wheel on the bathroom scale. 326lbs, realized I need to adjust the boat back further on the trailer, now I’m 180
    I lay it in the truck on longer drives.

    Awesome video, man. I'm at a crossroads right now between the Ulterra and this for my new boat that's coming in a few weeks. As nice as the ulterra auto stow and deploy is and the adjustable trim, the peace of mind from knowing this model has less to go wrong with it is worth it to me. I live in NY where the open water season is short enough as it is. I know not likely, but i'd hate for something to go wrong with that ulterra deploying and missing valuable time of the water. As long as I have my ipliot link, I think Terrova it is for me!

    That white puck is supposed to be mounted at least midway back on the boat at a minimum per the minnkota instructions it’s the magnetic compass and needs distance from the head unit to compare data to the head units gps readings. It also need to be away from magnetic sources aka the trolling motor itself. Probably works fine how you have it.....but it could work better.

    • @TheTabugman
      @TheTabugman Год назад +3

      And I believe it's skewed as well. The black arrow on the puck should point parallell to the keel, ie straight ahead.
      The GPS signal is received at the head of the motor, not this puck.

    There is a slotted collar the shaft rides through on the top of the gearbox , near the little white label. It is the steering control. This will shear off if the motor gets in a bind. Fishing stumps in wind on constant where the boat can get pushed sideways into a stump can and has twice on mine broken the collar. It is either a sacrificial part or a bad design. The replacements are 7-8 dollars and is fairly easy to fix if you are mechanically inclined. I have had mine for 4 years and this is the only real problem I have had.

    Awesome Video! I was looking at the Riptide Terrova for my RHIB boat, 21 footer. I was told the black one is for lake and white is for saltwater? What thrust do you recommend for a 21 footer? And is it better to get a longer shaft than what is needed? Are these trolling motor only for bow mount? Can you do a transom mount? Which is better? Thank you brother!

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  3 года назад

      That sounds right on the color, but I’m not 100% sure. Mine is 80lb thrust and moves my not just fine. (1,075 lbs). For a 21 ft boat, I would base the thrust more on weight of boat, vs length. For shaft length, depends on the wake of where you’ll be fishing. 45 was perfect for me. You have to also think how high it will stick up when not fully down, and how far it will lay over the edge of your boat when on deck. Transom mount is not an option for the model I chose.

I was told that the others that are not cable driven have lag and not as precise. I now have a Powerdrive and cuss it everytime I am running through timber , etc. because I can't fish and control the boat at the same time. I have found a few good deals on Terrova but not Ultrex . • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  2 года назад +2

      I haven’t had a problem at all with the responsiveness. I’ve been on other boats with an ultrex and I think it’s too touchy. I can navigate my boat through some pretty challenging creek channels with the Terrova, so it’s likely just a matter preference and getting used to it. I also like the flatness of the foot pedal. It’s way more ergonomically designed in my opinion.

    I noticed that it overhangs the front of the boat pretty far. Do you have any advice on how you can mount it so it doesn't get damaged when you are taking the boat off of the trailer? The ramps I use here in Mobile, Alabama are pretty shallow and the boat kind of falls off the roller when you launch it. I don't want my mount to fall on that roller and break it. Thanks for the overview. I'm thinking about getting one, but I need to figure out how to launch the boat with the bracket poking out so far.

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  Месяц назад +1

      Well, the way it deploys, it has to hang over the edge. But you’re right, I’ve hit it several times on the bow roller while launching. I’ve had to figure out the right point/depth for my trailer no matter what the angle is of the trailer. That has helped a ton. I rarely hit it now. All about the trailer angle.

      @@FishingtheLoneStar thanks for your answer. I did find that Minn Kota makes a base plate that bolts to the boat and another plate that bolts to the bottom of the motor than then fits onto the bottom plate. It has a sliding track where you can slide the motor mount back where it doesn't hang over. I went over the Bass Pro Shop and they had one for $69.99 and I think it will solve that problem. I haven't got my motor mounted yet, they should do it on Thursday. I'm crossing my fingers. Thanks for the video!

      Not currently. Mega Down, but not side. You can buy Mega side imaging and strap it on, but in general, it’s not recommended because every time you turn your trolling motor the image for side imaging changes. Too much distortion on the screen. Instead, I put side imaging on the console unit, and networked the two graphs (console and bow) so I can still see side imaging from the front graph. It’s just from the transducer on the back of the boat.

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  3 года назад

      You’re correct. It’s a digital compass for your boat. This is from trollingmotors.net: The heading sensor, shaped like a small smoke detector, is in fact a digital compass that communicates with the trolling motor via Bluetooth and enables the motor to keep track of its actual heading. This in turn enables the new ‘jog’ feature, or the ability for the motor to jog your boat five feet at a time in any direction you choose.

      @Cormac McCarthy trolling motors with i-pilot, but not i-pilot link can still run tracks, they just can’t do it connected to the finder. You can still use spot lock, and it will also work on auto-pilot, just a lot less features than with the i-pilot link.

      Brian Peter - Sorry if I didn’t explicitly call that out. I think I mentioned the foot pedal though and how it’s completely flat. Had to built a platform for it, because it’s unlike a normal pedal in the way it’s built.

    I would suggest making the foot rest out of something besides wood. Maybe aluminum or fiberglass, anything but wood, wood will rot one ce it starts getting wet.

    • @FishingtheLoneStar
      @FishingtheLoneStar  3 года назад

      Absolutely, but it may also depend on the type of boat. Do you know it’s a fiberglass boat or aluminum. This one I have is aluminum. If fiberglass, you may want to look at the Ultrex. Both are great, the Ultrex is just a little bigger for bigger heavier boats.
