I have to say through all the 30 years I have led worship I tend not to talk. I will enter I to worship with a bi le verse and invite congregation to join me. I think speaking between worship songs interrupts the move of the songs. When i need to transition from a faster song or perhaps a couple of songs i will read another verse that will transition to another song. I am totally distracted when people talk between songs especially if it is about them and something they have gone through. So I am not o. The same page. However i have researched how to start.

I also think that speaking can distract the worshipers of the congregation. My style of leading is to read a Bible verse and then transition songs musically, giving people time to have a moment of reflection and personal prayer. It’s important to let the Holy Spirit move and guide the transitions to be in the flow. In between the songs I pray and worship the Lord quietly, often the Spirit leads me to pray prophetically.

Like all things in the Christian life, it takes wisdom, right? If what you are saying doesn’t add value then NOT speaking is better. If what we are saying is great but we end up talking longer than the song people will begin to dread us opening our mouths. And prepare. We have to be willing to think and pray about it. Etc.

This is really good. Years ago a lady told me she hates when people talk during worship and so I stopped. 😮 I didn’t really realize that until listening to this video. Thank you so much.

If you are storytelling, people will not like it. But if you say it short and full of encouragement it might help people to worship.

So many great tips! I just recently started speaking out more in between songs and even though it’s sometimes awkward and I don’t always end up saying what I originally set out to say (due to nerves), I know it will get easier and more second-nature the more I do it. As you said, spending time in prayer and reading scripture also helps with confidence, and remembering it’s not just about me. Your last point is KEY because we’re called to look out not just for our own interests but the interests of others (Philippians 2:1-4). Thank you for this encouragement and gentle nudge to continue speaking out!

I love the filter questions. What does my church need to hear and what do we need to do?

This is very helpful! By any chance do you have a Spotify where we can listen to it just like a podcast?

What does someone do when the pastor is hung up on the 'denominational' way of leading worship and will not deviate from that? Where is the Holy Spirit in all this advice?

I'm not sure I see the real benefit in speaking all that much between songs. My Pastor is usually up next and he's gonna do a lot of speaking. I will check out other worship leaders speak between songs, perhaps there's something to it, I just don't see the point right now.

That’s partially true- while God can teach us through our personal time of fellowship God also is in us and speaks through us.
God spoke directly to David to tell him how he wanted his tabernacle to be built. How to effectively worship him. Jesus taught the disciples how to pray and about the kingdom of God. Paul and many of the other apostles wrote several letters to the churches teaching them what it means to be holy. Teaching- is apart of ministry. He’s given us teachers to edify us and build us up in the knowledge of who he is and how to please him. Teaching is to bring understanding to what God has already fully placed in you. He uses different ways to speak or teach but it’s all the same spirit. It’s still God doing the teaching.
So you can be taught to worship same as we are taught about salvation, holiness, prayer, and everything else about God. Because if it’s coming from His teachers it’s still HIM.
No teacher however should replace our personal time of fellowship❤️
