The RE Himalayan is approx. 75 pounds heavier than the DR650, both topped off with fuel, ready to ride......huge difference, especially when you consider the RE's 24 horsepower has to push around that additional 75 pounds.
Owning the DR has been the best bike experience I’ve ever had. I plan to always keep it as a permanent stable bike, and rotate a second bike throughout different seasons as my finances / tastes change. You got the color I wanted!
You’re exactly right. As you can see on some of my former videos, I went through three adventure / duel sport bikes before I discovered the DR. I too rotate travel bikes ( Harley and BMW ) and also keep a camper bike 2007 250 Vespa. Going to sell Vespa and pick up a lighter E bike for camping. I’m keeping the DR and plan to keep modifying it… because I enjoy working on it. Hopefully I’ll do the Trans American Trail on it next year. Thanks for subscribing, and thanks for the remarks. I'm with you. I can handle a big bike. But it's not the best tool for the job. Bought my DR used, all kitted out, last year and could not be more satisfied. I was at a fork in the road: Buy at 2 wheeled EZChair, or something that would challenge me in a healthy way. I chose the road less traveled.
This is a 2023. I’ve made some modifications and I’m digging this bike so far. Im not changing power item, there’s plenty of power to do the riding I do. Thanks for commenting. Please subscribe.
The DR is basically the same dating back over 20 years.....the major changes have been aesthetic only, with the mechanicals staying the same for a long, long time. That's what makes it so attractive for those of us that aren't concerned with having 150hp or being seen on the latest $30,000 adventure bike at the local Starbucks. All around GREAT bike. I have a very well set-up '21 and its bitchin'....
The DR is great. Putting an IMS 5 gallon tank on mine to stop for coffee less (gas lol). You are right about the weight it is heavy enough to ride highway and still manageable. As an engine guy can''t beat the big bore single four strokes. Rejetted the carb as soon as I got it home then started riding.

Only mods worth doing is pair valve delete, charcoal system delete, fuel screw opened, needled shimmed, foot pegs stiffened by 5/8 washers, and tool box shifted back to charcoal system holes.

If you change the grips just order a new throttle tube instead of messing with the stock one.
