    Hi I’ve just watched this and I’m in love, I would love to try this but wanted to ask can I use acrylic paint instead of oil paint? Your work is just amazing and thank you for showing us your work

    • @simplyaniko
      @simplyaniko  4 года назад

      emma nichols hi :) i am glad you liked it. Yes, acrylic is good too, just make sure to cover the surface in parts and wipe it fast, because it takes few minutes for acrylics to dry and for oils - days. And texture is different too. Oil is best of course, but with my green dragon journal i used acrylics and it worked.

    Thank you for sharing this tutorial , it's beautiful and the 3 parts videos has been equally spectacular! Love it!!! Would you use green acrylic paint if you don't have green guilders paste or green inka gold from viva decor ? I noticed in the last video, you did not mention anything about sealing or glazing the clay . Do you have to ?? Thank you very much !

    • @simplyaniko

      hi. i tried this with green acrylic to highlight. jus took some acryluc paint, smudged it on pallette with finger and then softly applied it on leaves and other high areas for highlights.

    Cab I ask why you don't use terracotta clay? I am making book covers, but I bought terracotta. Will I have a harder time sculpting ?

    • @FantasyForay
      @FantasyForay 6 лет назад

      Terracotta clay is no more difficult to sculpt with than any other clay. Your only issues are in the fact that you'll need to use water to keep your clay pliable as you work, and then your curing method and curing time is different. Polymer clay is cured in an oven, or with a heat gun in a matter of minutes, while wet clay terracotta must be left to dry completely for up to several days, and then baked to hardness in a kiln. For coloring, polymer clay can be painted, but also come in a variety of colors that you can use to avoid painting, while terracotta can also be painted, and sometimes comes in red, moss green or varying gray colors, but uses glazes for the most part, that need additional kiln baking to cure as well. I feel that terracotta is a little messier, like working in mud, because essentially, you are, where as with polymer clay or wax and oil based clays I don't feel that I have as big of a mess to clean up. I know that one can learn to work fairly cleanly with wet clay, however, I've not met many clay artists who don't care to play in some "mud" once in a while.

      Hare Krishna. I don't really know any airdry clays and especially where to buy them in India. But I think every clay brand would have something like this. I use POLYMER CLAY by Sculpey or FIMO companies. ALso CERNIT or PARDO is good. I have never done such intricate projects like my elephant journal with airdry clay, so I can't be agood at giving advices here. Perhaps you should try tutorials with COLD PORCELAIN or AIRDRY clay and see what this material is like, how it looks like, what brands there are. Good luck and Hare Krishna :)

    my question is because this is so much work can you set your project aside and pick it up later to do or do you have to do it all at once

    • @dmsdana4501
      @dmsdana4501 6 лет назад +1

      Jocelyn St Germain Polymer clay won't dry out within a couple of days as long as it is not on any kind of paper that will leach the plasticizers out of the clay. You have to keep it covered though, as it will attract ALL kinds of dust and lint. I work on a large tile and then store it in 2 aluminum baking trays that I sandwich together with black clips (I use this to bake in). Go to the Blue Bottle Tree's website, Ginger Davis Allman has TONS of info for newbies. Good luck! 💜💜💜
