- DISCLAIMER: after watching the video in full resolution for the first time, it appears that this brand new camera I'm using took full advantage of auto leg hair focus mode lol. Please excuse If I'm out of focus in some of the talking bits.
This week, we are looking at the Pentax MX1 for our camera classics series. It's an old brass compact camera that feels much like an SLR. Shooting with this was heaps of fun, and it reminds me of all the reasons why I love photography.
Prices of digital cameras like this are vastly different, so it's hard to pin point what it's worth on todays market. Sometimes they're $500 for this old Pentax, and others as low as $50. If you land one cheap, congrats!

Have had mine for a few years and love it. Not going to take the place of my k-3, but for a small camera that has enough auto and manual features to let you get great shots if you do not have the dslr with you, it fills the bill greatly. It is a camera that you can bring with you in many situations.
Both of those are awesome cameras! I love my k3; I considered the mark iii version but ultimately decided on keeping the OG. It's a fantastic dslr for the price today

Love this Ole pentax. I wish there were a new version of this or something to compete with the tops out there (and no not a ricoh, a zoom lens)
Just picked up this camera today and I love it. I was looking for another compact camera since I own a dlsr and two film and a digicam; I love the digicam but I wanted a more powerful compact camera to take with me when I just casually go out. Still figuring out the features and such but overall great experience so far.
I wish I didn't sell mine lol
My current favorite point and shoot is a Fuji X20. I love that this has leaf shutter. Gonna look for a patina’d black one.
Those x20s look awesomely fun! They're pricey to me right now but I'd love to try one if I find one at the right price lol

Thanks to your review and several others here on RUclips I took the plunge and purchased a like new MX-1 off Ebay. I've had it for about 3 months now, and I love it! I have one question that I am hoping someone can help with. Has anyone found/purchased a tempered glass screen protector that actually fits? The screen already had a few minor abrasions on it when I purchased it. So I bought the" plasticy" one from Expert Shield. It does the job for now, but it too scratches very easily. Any help would be appreciated!
Little wonderful camera. I got one almost as soon as it was released. Nowadays it's performing as day one.

They're definitely a strangely priced camera! I've seen them go as cheap as 70 bucks and as much as 500 depending on the condition and seller.

Ricoh Pentax: The Beginning of the End or the Start of a Bright Future?: I didn’t know that Pentax was still selling cameras 📸 maybe 🤔 they should sell adult 👵 diapers that way grandma 👵 and grandpa 👴 would know they are still around.

They definitely have a small cult following. I think they just refused to follow suit with the mirroless/hybrid shooting craze which crippled their sales lol, although the ricoh griii is pretty popular
