  • My blind reaction to the song Nina Cried Power by the Irish singer/songwriter Hozier, his powerful tribute to the songs that informed the civil rights movement of the 50/60s.

Another fabulous pick and a great reaction... There's so much to be impressed by with this dude! I know I keep giving recommendations but honestly... it's in response to your comments! lol If you wanna see some awesome harmonies from Hozier and his band (because his entire team is amazing) add "Movement" Live at The Current - to your list ;)

i love this one! it's always great seeing reactions to aspects of songs i don't really focus on as well, like i listen to hozier first and foremost for his lyrical content so i don't pay too much attention to the instrumentals - obviously i like the sound of them but i would never think to sit and take in the drumming outside of the whole of the song. mavis has always been in there haha, and billie holiday crops up which is sort of fitting for you because you did strange fruit not too long ago i think!
and yeah, most hozier songs are about political or societal issues - he's made interviews before where he says he doesn't think it's really possible to make apolitical art, because the most everyday feelings and actions are impacted by what's happening politically.

I like that we come at these songs from different angles! I think the best songs are the ones where, no matter what way you choose to listen to it, you can get something meaningful from it! Or else what’s the point?

I haven't heard a lot of Irish music (I did listen to Cranberries and love several of their songs, however), but this one surprised me pleasantly. The type of cadence used for this song is one of my favorites. It's hard to describe why I like it so much. Perhaps it's because each segment of the song prepares a speed up of the background music that kicks in after the first two lines of the segment's lyrics are sung, like when you're slowly rising to the top of a rollercoaster and then go back down at a greater speed. I know this isn't the most accurate description or the one that makes the most sense, because I'm terrible at music theory (my sister is much more savvy in the matter, but she's living in another country so I can't ask her directly). So I will only say that I'm in love with it, and because I didn't know this song makes use of it my surprise was bigger. =)
EDIT: Heck, at one point the people with the headphones feel the cadence's buildup as well and enjoy it while closing their eyes, so it's definitely not my imagination!

Mate, you’ve seen my videos, you know fine well I have no idea what I’m talking about either lol. Just blag it, that’s all I’m doing! I’m glad you liked the song though, I think it’s great!

ohh please listen to more of hozier! one of my favorite songs is Shrike; his irish accent is so present and the way his vocals just flow with the music is amazing!!
i also think you’d really like hozier’s new album, especially Da Selby Part 1 and Da Selby Part 2!
I, Carrion (Icarian) is my favorite from the whole album, as well as Butchered Tongue, Abstract, and Who We Are; just, the whole album is so good, there are no misses for me when it comes to any of Hozier’s music, but he’s got some really beautiful music and im really hope you react to some more because he’s just got amazing songs! I really love the content!!

Thank you! I actually plan on recording Shrike tomorrow! ☺️ Butchered Tongue is also on my list, so don’t worry, there’s gonna be more Hozier. I’m just tryna drag them out a bit so there’s a little variety on the channel every day ☺️

@@markabusireactions thats extremely exciting to hear :D
i'm just a really really big hozier fan and it's always so fun and interesting to see people experience his music, so i'm super super excited about this!
and i totally get that!! gotta keep it fresh, mix it up, for the people, but most importantly, yourself :]
i'm excited to see whatcha come out with next, and while it's especially true with hozier reactions, i also mean it for any other future content you make! you're really calming to watch, i'm not sure how to describe it but you've just got a refreshing vibe aboutcha that's really cool, so i'm already a big fan!
oh jeez on the second read through, this is a really long comment, my bad! i hope you enjoy Shrike! best of luck recording and editing the stuff :]

I know most of your comments section is full of recommendations and you have Shrike next, good choice, but if you’re ever looking at listing to To Be Alone, definitely take a look at “To Be Alone - Live in Kilkenny” gorgeous gorgeous acoustics.
I love seeing people get to know artists like Hozier, the music video for this is several modern day activists just listening to the song with footage of protests projected on them and a screen behind, and the whole description is filled with their stories
He did try to write a song with lyrics entirely made up of titles of jazz songs he grew up listening to, but then realized he should probably take a step back and ended up writing one with lyrics made *mostly* of titles 😂 It’s called Almost(Sweet Music) and also manages to be a reflection of music’s affect on memory and memory’s affect on music. Cameron Boyce danced in the music video shortly before he died though which makes me sad, but it was also very special.

He always said Mavis c: there are recording before she agreed to be featured of him singing the whole song by himself before the album came out

Great review! Loved learning about the drumming. If you do another Hozier reaction, Work Song would blow. Your. Mind. Or Eat Your Young, if you want something more recent.

@markabusireactions I recommend for shrike you really pay attention to the lyrics. It's basically a big poem. And if you don't know a shrike is a bird that impales its food ok thorns and comes back for snacks later

    • @markabusireactions
      @markabusireactions  10 месяцев назад +1

@@Alyzvettema I did not know that! I think I might just Google what it’s about beforehand and pull up the lyrics, and that way I don’t need as much brain processing and I can give the music as much concentration as the lyrics ☺️

@markabusireactions sure! To be honest there isn't a whole lot going on it in musically. It's pretty simple. It's very lyric heavy. One of my favorites tho. 😍 a read through wouldn't hurt and maybe keep the lyrics next to you during the reaction. Anytime you're doing hozier the song will be lyric heavy usually. That's honestly where he shines the most
