Hipper is an awesome ambush predator. Hugging islands, lurking and stalking until your close enough to engage with torps is where she wants to be. I ran Hipper with hydro for this purpose. Early stages, when im supporting my BBs, its enough to rely on their AA, meaning DAA was not necessary. But being able to see whos on the other side of the island was invaluable in choosing engagements. Ive never had a more satisfying experience In WoWs than coming around a corner, dumping 1 bank, unloading AP into cruisers and watching them panic as I closed distance while shrugging their return fire off. They can go broadside unless they want to be citadelled, they cant back up fast enough to evade my torps as I pull along side, they can only hope I will make their death quick.
The tier 6 West Virginia premium BB has 406 mm guns and can slap at that tier and even against tier 7 and 8 BBs. I've sank many a tier 8 BB with my W.V.
Flash forward to 2024. This cruiser line is the most powercrept line in the game. Hipper gets constant uptiers into tier 10 with no redeeming factor about. And I really do mean that. Who gives a shit about a 10 second reload when you are probably the worst ship in the game most of the time. The least they could have done was given this thing a heal.
Most cruisers feel pretty awful when bottom tier; T8 cruisers without a heal, particularly. I agree that the German cruiser line has been a bit power crept, largely due to superships and the proliferation of large caliber AP at high tiers. When Hindenburg released, her armor scheme was relatively resilient to most battleships in the game (Yamato being the obvious exception). Now there are so many things that overmatch her armor that playing one often feels like an exercise in futility.
Hi SeaRaptor, I know this is not the right place. Please can I ask but when are you doing the fourth Qtr review of 2021, I always look froward to the reviews and your views on how things are going with the game. Keep up the good work and stay safe
Plenty of ships have strong AA, especially if you sink a few points into it. Where most players fall for the belief that AA is worthless is (a) they spend too much time reading reddit or the forums, and (b) they don't invest anything in their AA suite (unlike the enemy carrier, who has invested skill points and modules in increasing the HP of his planes). AA is a simple math equation now. The CV is investing in the HP of his planes; if you want to kill planes and don't invest in your AA, you will be disappointed.
Just remember to ridicule anyone still criticizing the implementation of CV´s, because those people dont deserve a voice anymore, there is nothing to be discussed.
I still criticize the implementation of CVs myself - I do so in this video, as I think the current implementation of the Soviet CVs are crap - but they aren't going anywhere. CVs of nearly every other nation allow you to develop tactics of how you deal with them, Soviet CVs just crap all over you almost regardless of what your AA is. My snarky response to Painezor is partly because it's Painezor, and partly because most of the complaining I see about CVs these days is just bellyaching from people who don't want to invest in their AA or adapt their strategy and tactics when a CV is in the game. There are valid gripes about certain CVs and certain nations, but the class is far, FAR better balanced that it ever has been (Soviets excepted) and AA skills and upgrades are more valuable now than they used to be because carriers are more common and you get tangible, predictable results out of those skills and upgrades. AA isn't based on RNG anymore, which is one of the best things they could have done for the system.
@@SeaRaptor Honestly, I should not have assumed so much with my own comment, it was in bad taste and I know your opinion is more nuanced then that. I was thinking about how I miss being able to slot my german cruiser hydro as DFAA does indeed make a difference. Thank you for taking the time for a longer response, I cant help but agree, even if I am still salty ^^
It's fine, I get salty myself sometimes. I'll be honest, if it had been anyone else in chat besides Painezor that made that crack I probably wouldn't have mouthed off like I did. But knowing Painezor like I do, he was partially trolling there and I feel like my response was warranted. ;)
"some of us are adults"..
Lmao so cringe
I have a fully AA Hipper build, since the ship is so much of a generalist she does ok at anything.
The German heavies in general are very much generalists, like the American destroyers. Must be why I enjoy both lines so thoroughly.
I've found that the AA is so strong it doesn't even need a fighter

audio volume difference between the speakers was really bad.

Boggzy you lied when you said the Germans don't have, but the zieten has 406mm guns 😂
This video might pre-date Zieten, honestly. =D
