    For success of your business, I would take some time to learn focal lengths and there different uses. The different lengths can make certain jobs easier and extend the life of your laser. I don’t think OMTech is to blame or yourself. It’s just a learning thing. The great thing is the ability to bounce things off of others with some experience. I would also get some calipers so you can really dial in you focal length. The piece that comes with the Mach is not accurate. That’s why ramp test are important. Do a ramp test and make your own measuring tool. Good luck!

      I have learned a lot about focal lengths in the past week. I started with a co2 in late december. I do use calipers and run ramp tests. My blame on Omtech is advertising my machine as coming with a 2" focal but sending a 2.5" focal. It really blew my mind as a new user but I have figured it out now. I have the 4pc APC lens set on the way to continue my knowledge and grow my capabilities. Thanks for the comment.

    Just a simple mistake but did you install the lenses in the right orientation.

    Hi Chris
    Ad others have commented, you have a bit to learn about lenses. The sunflower yellow lens is CVD materila rated at 150 to200 watts The honey coloured lens is cheaper Chinese PVD material but rated to 80 watts. Optically they will perform the same but if your machine is truly a 100 watt machine (which I doubt, my guess it's an 80 watt B grade tube) then you have cause to complain about the QUALITY of the lens they sent. The gap betwen nozzle and work at present (about 19mm) confirms what others have state, yes this is set for a 63.5 (2.5") focal length lens. The new lens is what it says on the box, a 2" (50.8mm) focal length lens. The problem with "auto focus" is that it has ZERO intelligence and will never be able to detect if you change the lens to a new focal distance. So there is no point complaining to OMTerch. because you know the new focal distance from the ramp test (about 6mm) measure it and note the dimension and then learn how to reset your auto focus pen to suit a different focal distance Here is a video that explains it in detail. ruclips.net/video/IDaGEu0ddrE/видео.html.
    Good luck.....OMTech have achieved their goal and sold you a machine but as you see, their support will be limited. Your future enjoyment of this machine is now all down to how much you are prepared to learn about this laser technology . 10% will "get you through" for ever but learn more to enjoy more
    ps . The 2" lens is the "jack of all trades" lens fitted to nearly all machines so there is nothing wrong with such a lens. How and why you would want longer and shorter focal lengths is all part of that zone beyond 10%

    It's not a failed result. It's just a different focal length lens.

    According to your ramp test, your stock lens is a 2 1/2” focal length lens, while the two lenses you got from OMTech are 2” lenses. By now, I am sure you will recognize that you have to do a new test for each lens you use. If you had, you would have had the correct focus on the first lens…

      Yep. Also if Omtech didn’t sale and advertise my machine as coming with a 2” lens then send me a machine with a 2.5” lens I probably wouldn’t have been so confused. But now I know that having a 2” lens in my machine it is impossible to use autofocus without buying a short cone from another company (cloud ray) since Omtech does not offer the short cone to make it work as advertised.

      @@StingerLaserWorks doesn’t you cone/tube have a 1/2” spacer? My AF2028-80 does, and by removing it, you can use a 2” lens quite well.

      When I received my laser I discovered a small scratch on the stock lens and so I used my credits with Omtech to order better replacement (gold)mirrors and (CVD)lenses. They are consumable items and its good practice to have extras on hand.

    recalibrate your auto focus and your good.

    • @StingerLaserWorks
      @StingerLaserWorks  Год назад +1

      Not possible with auto focus. Focal rod depresses 5mm to activate. Focus from nozzle tip with a 2" lens is 5mm. The focal rod will still touch material when focused. Omtech tech support has verified. Thanks for trying to help.

      @@StingerLaserWorksit is possible. Your autofocus can be recalibrated and adjusted in the controller. You do a ramp test. Measure with calipers and input values in the controller.

    Are you being serious? You do realise different lenses with different focal lengths means a different focus distance? There is absolutely nothing wrong with the lenses.

    • @StingerLaserWorks
      @StingerLaserWorks  Год назад

      Yes I realize this. Do you realize that I was sold and bought a 2” autofocus laser and was sent a laser a with 2.5” lens. Omtech has confirmed their mistake and tech support has verified that the way their machine is setup it cannot be auto focused using a 2” lens. There is something wrong with Omtech QC and management is the point.
