Talent is a strange, invisible thing. A few minutes with this man at a pub or on the street, and you'd never know he has written some of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.
I met him once in 2002 when I was the drummer in a Cirque du Soleil show and he came to see the show and joined us for a drink in the kitchen afterwards. It took me almost an hour to actually understand that it was him. Of course I knew that it was Martin Gore from Depeche Mode but the way he behaved and spoke made it really hard to understand that it was REALLY Martin Gore. He only spoke of the show and about the quality of us musicians in the show. How ego completely dissolved behind a huge (but very very agreeable) wall of shyness and humility. They say that one should not meet ones heroes... in his case this could not have been more wrong. He is the most humble, soft spoken and thoughtful "star" I have even met (besides Peter Gabriel).
You couldn't have written that better! I know it was 2 years ago, but I was just scrolling through all of their old stuff and I absolutely adore Martin Gore. He is so talented.
In Your Room is hands down one of the greatest songs ever written. It's really hard to pick favourite Depeche Mode song, but I always go back to that one. Stripped, also. Black Celebration. Waiting for the Night.
When Martin talks about the loneliness and solitude sound of songs, it's like he's reading my mind. I don't either like really happy songs 'cause I've always felt they are fake somehow. However, I do like the word melancholy :)
Really love this man, and he did well in the interview!! He seemed so soft spoken and polite!! One of the favorite songs are "Dreaming Of You" from the early 80's!
I adore Martin's talent for over 30 years know. Together with Alan Wilder they were a magical combination. Actually all four of them till Alan left the band, to my opinion. I always thought Martin was in some sort of dreamy mood, but since I heard of his social shyness, I even respect him much more. Consider this while playing for full arena's, screaming women and men (ofcourse 😉). I had the tremendous luck to meet him at an after party / meet after a concert and had a chat for a few minutes and two kisses on cheek 🤗. He gave me a sateh from the buffet that was arranged for a few fans. It was lovely and naturally. Dave wasn't around back then. This interview is exactly how he is, pure and humble. And his heart for music. I rather have a husband like he, then someone who come crushing into my little world 😉, shake me up and leave. Depeche Mode is somewhat my diary. Even their worst songs are quite okay. Much credit and respect for them. After all these years, they still rock and sure know how to give a party playing live.
You're so lucky if he even touched my pinky with his pinky I'd faint! I don't think I could ever recover from meeting him, his songs melt my heart! Especially The Bottom Line from Ultra 😍🫠
Yes dear, I know what you mean, me myself I don't get really excited about contemporary music either. It's not just about getting old, I think it is a whole different mentality nowadays. You are a sincere person and a very talented singer and songwriter. Much more value to that then the vulgar cheap artists and videos from the nillies. 🍀💖👋 God bless you Martin 🙏🌷💝
Finds is hard 'following' a bank now! Martin we all feel this way! There just is not the talent quite like you and others these days! We are looking back on you and others from the eighties (and sixties) longingly. Look to England for the best music ever, this is for sure!!
Los "arreglos" que le hicieron en los dientes le han modificado,me parece,la tan delicada boca que tenía cuando era joven.Mientras a él le guste.. ❤❤❤😍😍😍
Possibly why they had such a success. I imagine it would've been quite hard for them to function if he was an arrogant prick, considering they had 2 non-composing, non-player members
I am so glad i stumbled onto this.. his intent focus.. whether or not the enterviewer deserves it or not. There are few people i respect anymore in the music industry or elsewhere but he is one of them. This may sound esoteric but artists try to push their synths or instruments to the limit or even breaking. He says solitary and lonilness are the focus.. but the true dm fabric is their scary meaness that they evoke: from dreaming of me, something to do, somebody, question of lust, shake the disease, strangelove, enjoy the silence, policy of truth to in your room.
Noticed he was looking at the camera and with that smile, it's like letting the people know look at my new teeth they look good and I know they prob feel better than the ones you had but it wouldn't be depence mode from the 80s if you didn't have them crooked teeth it was like a trademark of the band loved them then and love them now, thanks
The man has no idea how sexy and incredibly attractive his inner spirit is makes him soo much more appealing to both the eye and soul. His wife is one lucky gal. And that god given angelic voice …hot damn!
@@darkmantis69 No, I don´t mean his accent. He definetely sounds different, since he has new teeth. Especially the 's' and the 'f'. The air goes differently past the teeth. You can hear it very often from people with tooth crowns at their front teeth. And he obviously has all of his teeth with crowns.

He doesn't open his mouth much when he talks, and he opened it even less when he still had those janky-ass teeth. The way he talks now doesn't sound any different than the way he spoke before the new teeth.

Some very good and thought provoking answers in there. There's also the dry humour that often finds its way into his writing.

Martin Gore you are Song writing GOD, don't be so humble. Nobody in history wrote this kind of dark erotica songs you did. Thank you 😎
Arnela de Noir yes indeed, he is amazing, gorgeous, erotic song writer.

Such a lovely man.. and I did very much like his hair like that..
The sweetest man in the universe

6:01 LOL, the cameraman takes a moment to appreciate the beauty of Martin Gore's lip shape.
Setting the white ballance against his new grill.
The start too 😂

Martin is so cute!
What a lovely man. We're so inspired by his songwriting as a band.
What is up with the horrible audio???
"those songs bear resemblance to reality"
exactly
Soft spoken genius
Lovely man, intelligent, modest & his personality really attracts me & then ....amazing music.
Martin Is a musical genius. The Jimi Hendrix of electronic music!
His guitar work is unlike anything as well, simple as it may be the melody and key are perfect for the songs
They valley loves Depeche Mode.. East LA really loves them
One of the best song writers out there and such a nice guy

Cool interview! Too bad he seemed so distant, shy or not wanting to be there.
I think he'd prefer to be performing than answering questions he's answered 100 times before. Still very thoughtful answers.
I think he might be a bit introverted, he let's his music do the talking.
est Europe love you dear Martin... too
😂 why did the camera person zoom like that at the beginning
A very distant personality!
At the start of interview how he looks and hides teeth with lips and they zoom in on them
Is the audio incredibly low on this or is it just my rig?
The audio is ridiculously low.
