I remember this performance by John Schneider when it first aired. I was so impressed because it seemed like so few singers could perform it other than of course Kenny Rogers (RIP) and Lionel Ritchie. It seemed like it was a difficult song to sing, and here was young John doing a beautiful job. I'm so glad to see this on RUclips.
Thanks for uploading. I loved the gag with the "enchanted" announcer and the final session with legendary Dolly Parton. Does anybody know about a live duet of Parton & Schneider?
Dolly Parton is one of the most talented singer songwriters of our time. John Schneider was stunningly good looking man, but was a mediocre actor/singer. Dolly Parton was/is very selective on who she chooses as a duet partner. He would not compliment her pure mountain soprano voice and he is far too divisive of a personality for her to associate herself with. Everyone loves Dolly Parton. She's not political....she accepts people the way they are....she has created opportunities for the very poor people of her community of Pigeon Forge Tennessee. Schneider on the other hand regularly appears on right wing media and has made youtube videos begging fans to buy things off his website claiming he has no money and blames it on his political beliefs. He voices his support for the Big Lie and other conspiracy theories. He still looks good for a man of his age, but otherwise doesn't have much to offer unless you are a Fox News fan. Parton on the other hand is timeless and has near universal appeal. She's a not just a musical genius , she's also a shrewd business woman. That is another reason she would never appear with Schneider again because she will tell you "I need that money because it takes an awful lot of money to make a person look this cheap!".
@@baritonebynight Well, thank you for commenting with so many details about Schneider I didn't know about, and which are not well known here in Italy. On the other hand, Dolly is much more known here, and I agree with every single word you wrote about her.
