Wonderful! Which type did you get, and what sort of exercises are you meaning? I'm always interested to know if there's something I can make that would be of help to the community!

@@HeyInglewood I got the mahogany one. I'm looking for arming up, strength and precision exercices. Also simple songs to play :)

Hopefully there are some simple songs on the channel for you. Let me know if they are / aren’t. I was considering making some “how to practice / pick / strum / fingerpick” etc... that the kind of thing you’re interested in?

@@HeyInglewood Yes! That is exactly what I'm looking for.

Good to know. I have one in the works for hammer-on and pull-off technique, as well as some practice tracks for playing along to as you learn (first one is "Free Fallin'"). Keep your eyes peeled (SUBSCRIBE if you haven't!)

would a canjo be a good practice tool for the one-finger method?

    • @HeyInglewood

Most likely? But I actually haven’t used one of them before 😅 but if it’s diatonic fretted then you’ll get the hang of the notes and scales and such and be able to transfer 100% of the knowledge

@@HeyInglewood I am trying to do a rock project with mountain/cigar box instruments, so I was thinking my practicing with a canjo could translate to playing the one-string bass as well as a dulcitar played in this style. (I am thinking of getting a roosebeck wildwood since it has 2 octaves instead of the Merlin's 1 octave...)
interestingly there is another similar but albiet different class of instruments called a 'chordstick' (the mcnally strumstick is an example). They descended from a one-string fretless mountain instrument called the pickin' stick.
They are played (as the name implies) chorded, like a 3-string guitar if you will.
they are often confused for one another because they both have a diatonic fretboard, but are played completely differently, so are different instruments.
