  • Susanna is a park ranger at Redwood National & State Park's Wolf Education Center. We asked her what is special about the Redwoods and her thoughts on the importance of getting children outdoors to experience our national parks.
    Redwood is located on northern California's rugged coastline and is home to the world's tallest trees.

    Thank you for giving Park Rangers a good name, this is what it is all about. So many people see us as enforcement officers and think we are on some kind of power trip because we wear a uniform. No Ranger I have ever met got into this profession because they want to write citations or be a law enforcement officer, they do it to be stewards of the land.

    Excellent video. Nice clean shots and great job capturing the interview from the ranger. Nice summary of what this beautiful area offers. I plan to shoot a short documentary on the Lost Coast this summer. I've been to this region almost every year since I was born. It is inspiring. So grateful for the wisdom of those who moved to preserve this area for our generation and others to enjoy.

    Awesome scenery, i took a walk and got lost in the trees but found my way home....the way i did that was a miraculous and spiritual experience..first of all it was in 1969. My friends and i decided to take a walk along the park, i think it was Humboldt. I was living in Santa Cruz at the time. Me and a bunch of hippies shared a house on Seventh Avenue for awhile. It was a blast, for sure. Thanks for the reminiscence.

    Do you have any tips on how to pursue a job into the NPS? I can't attend college anymore (financial problems) so I was trying to find an alternative route. Thanks

    • @adelarsen9776
      @adelarsen9776 6 лет назад

      8 to 9 days a week with very little resources, low pay and 16 hours a day.

    You should volunteer at a state or national park to gain valuable experience! Then you can apply for ranger jobs with the federal government (NPS, FWS, etc) through usajobs.gov. Good luck!

    I think conservatives and liberals alike are thankful that these Redwood groves were set aside when they were. Nothing else like them on the planet. Take that walk Susanna talks about from the groves to the sea - then you'll smile!

      duma lun There was a since-deleted post that was a rather unseemly comment about our Rangers’ “liberal agenda.” My reply was in response to that. You’re right - we’re just very thankful our leaders of the time had the foresight to set these trees aside. Time to delete this thread.

    Doesn't matter if you are liberal, republican, facist, nazi, communist, or anything else, nature is important to your life. I don't hate any political mindset. I hate those who disrespect nature.

    Hey now Ranger, instead of hiking you should be cutting the vines off those trees. Those vines will harm them.

    • @bennettfranz2639
      @bennettfranz2639 6 лет назад

      I looked there are no vines on the trees in this video. plus vines don't have the power to bring water as high as the canopy of the giants so they pose no risk. native vine like plant have a spot in the forest and are not invasive. you don't know shit. maybe you should go on a hike. you might learn something. plus rangers don't cut vines off trees. thats a job for an arborist. thats what I do.
