Meatloaf just made sense. He looks and sounds like he could be Jack's dad. Jack is a huge Dio fan. And Ronnie became a huge Tenacious D fan. So when they did the Pick of Destiny movie it was a natural. Ronnie was already sick here, it was shortly before he died, and of course we just lost Meatloaf. It's very cool that Jack paid tribute to 2 of his musical heroes, especially now that they're gone. As you said that alone made it great. (Kyle was indeed about to appear, this is the beginning of the movie. Dave Grohl also makes an appearance)
I think Dad smirked just cuz he knew there would be an excuse to whoop ass. His belt did come off easy?
The deeper takes is not just about the actors it was also about for example a play on Meatloaf's carrier and a little bit of the irony to play God faring parent VS His Claim to fame as being one of top artist to core rock and rock opera Genres as was two fold play that makes it such a mind blowing scene to me... Its like watching something like Deadpool where that a conversations could have so much depth that most everyone will understand the top level but based on someone's expediences will pick up on a second level reference and sometimes will even be a 3rd. I enjoyed your reaction when the gears were turning trying to wrap your head around Meatloaf with the music style and then start thinking about physical characteristics being a tall and large framed person
Dave Grohl also plays the drums for a lot of these songs as well as their live performances which is super cool.
Meatloaf as the dad is perfect too, because he's essentially a gospel singer.
I know Jack Black’s mother was a very important person and holds a place in the history of the space race. She worked on something that was super important.

Ever since Tenacious D did a song on their first album called "Dio" (a humorous track about how Dio was rocking too hard and not leaving room for newer bands like Tenacious D while also asking to be his disciples), Dio featured them in his video for "Push", and of course they featured him in the Pick Of Destiny.
The only grammy Tenacious D has ever won was in 2015 for a straightforward, non-comedy cover of "The Last In Line" for a Dio Tribute album.

As a 58yr old rocker, who's seen Meatloaf, and Dio, and Tenacious D, when I hear this song today, I actually get misty when i hear it. Ronnie really nailed it, as always.

Fun fact: That was Dio's first and only take on the album. He sang that literally one time, and everyone was like "fuck yeah Dio"
He did have one practice round, which is when they found out the mics they had didn't work very well for dio, which is why he brought his own, and after a quick mic swap they did the take that's in the movie

There is a video of when they did the Dio recording, he came in a nailed it on first take, Jack Black was fanboying :D
So supposedly... during the audio recording of this track( this is all on the Dvd btw) Dio kept breaking the mic with his voice and had to retrieve a new one from the trunk of his car. This special microphone was designed for him and not to break from the volume of his voice!
It’s not supposedly you can watch it on the “pick of destiny” extras. Also, he got his bit for the song done in one take after they used his mic.

Thanks so much for doing this song, It always makes me smile and the 2 cameos of Meatloaf and Ronnie James Dio are just icing on the cake. I hope oneday you get to react to the closing battle with the devil (Dave Grohl) its absolutely awesome. Thanks again for the smiles...

Awesome. One of the best Tenacious D songs and one of the only knows were I know all the lyrics by heart, they're that good!
And btw. this is litterally just the beginning of the Tenacious D movie which is why you don't see Kyle Gass.

Great reaction! This is just a fun song with the great Meatloaf and Dio. The movie itself is a bit silly, but fun overall. For me, the start with "Kickapoo" and the end with "Beelzeboss" are the greatest parts. With some good parts sprinkled across the movie.

this is the intro from their movie tenacious d and the pick of destiny. they also got ben stiller and dave grohl to be in it. you should really watch the entire movie

Interesting Fact: Ronnie had to bring his own microphone that been especially made for him, they went to record this part of the song and Ronnie was told to use their microphones to which he agreed, but Ronnie blew the fuse on the microphone as his vocals were to strong for their mics so they had to end up using his custom microphone!!
Totally agree with your review. Have to add that Meatloaf was down with appearing in anything movie wise. Check out the IMDB rating of Bloodrayne the movie by uve boll where he also stars

That was actually the first few min of the actual Tenacious D movie.
Tenacious D is a full blown movie.
Tenacious D isn't a band really.
Its a movie about a band and then they do some tours once in a while with Jack and Kyle as Tenacious D
I'm probably going to see them live this summer cuz they decided to go on tour again
But its actually a real movie and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching the full movie.

I always thought smile was just Meat Loaf breaking character. I had the privilege of meeting him a couple years before he died. He said that was so much fun. He loved doing things like this.

Even with all the other stuff going for it, I just want to point out that this OFFICIAL video gets a few of the lyrics wrong. Of particular note is when it says 'sacred doors' when the lyric is 'secret doors.' Want proof? Check out the behind the scenes video of Dio recording this. You can clearly see the lyric through the sheet of paper he's reading.
Meanwhile, why not go to the official 'Paint It Black' lyric video and complain how they think they want the sun 'shining high in the sky' rather than 'blotted out from the sky.'
