  • In the second episode of Anthropology of the Dutch, the pigeonhole man proceeds to live in the Dutch Deaf community. Many Deaf that he meets consider the word Deaf as an insult, but they chose to transform it into an honorific title. Therefore, they gladly appreciate when it is written with a capital letter D. Where does the cherished Deaf culture come from exactly? And how do the Deaf think about that big group of people that they have to deal with so often: the hearing?
Michael Schaap found the broadcast with the Deaf the most special to make. 'Because how do you talk to Deaf people when you meet them? They are Dutch, but for us it's almost as if they were Chinese. You can only talk to them through an interpreter.'
Original title: De Hokjesman - De Doven
Fascinated by the prevailing pigeonhole spirit, the pigeonhole man goes on field research into the world of appealing Dutch subcultures. With a wink to the classical ethnologist, dressed in a three-piece suit with a bow tie, he analyzes the man as one of the animal groups.
