"Yeah.. John. The game's been delayed til August 31st" "NOOOOO" Really Johnny? REALLY? That was a TOTALLY missed opportunity to play the "unknown item" theme.
Johnny it is simple why you need an item to climb ledges. Look at Samus's original suit then the Fusion suit. I'll give you a moment. ...... Yup you noticed a lot more armor on her original suit. Ah, so this is where Zero Suit Samus came from. I've only ever played the Metroid Prime Trilogy, owing to the fact that I suck at the older games. Super Smash Bros. made me think she was going without her suit because...reasons (fanservice?), but this game shows that she wears that awesome suit for a good reason and there's no way she'd want to fight in nothing but a skintight outfit.
@StarkMessanger I would certainly agree on that, but once you know where all of the items are then the a new challenge arrives in trying to get all of the items as fast as possible. The reason I 100% Super Metroid was because I played and beaten that game the most, so I have the most experience with that title.
It is actually stated somewhere on a website that samus upgrades her suit after metroid 1, so that does actually make sense, the newer suit can accept features samus finds, not just the ones that were given to her but lost(?)
I'm wondering myself how Johnny does those cool entrances during his Month of Metroid. Even asked myself "Dude how'd you do that?" Especially with the review of the first game. Those entrances look amazing.
It's editing, he took a picture of him crossing his arms, put it in a picture drawer program and made himself transparent, than took the same picture but with less transparent effects and drawed on some lightning stuff on the pic and repeated the process many times, go to your editing system, put all pictures in set order, modify the timeline a bit so pictures move very fast, put on some metroid music, and bam! You've created a metroid intro. I can do that, but it would take alot of time.
I agree. It provides a reason for starting off with none of the power ups obtained from the previous games and the feeling of trying to survive can get kinda scary at times and the music is AMAZING.
Hey Johnny, I really enjoy watching these reviews and your other vids. I really don't see why you don't have more views. I'll do my part to try and spread the word ;) Keep up the good work!
Also about hard mode: it increases the number of ennemies in certain areas, makes some of them tougher, and expansions only give you half of what they provide in the other two modes. I'd say the overall difference is actually quite big.
The part when you leave the space pirate mother where the pirate jumps on you. The space pirate was behind me instead of in front of me, and died of the explosion.
This was the first, and so far only, metroid game I've ever played. I first played it when I was young, but me being bad at games back then, I was stuck at kraid. I did end up finishing it, and I enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully the next metroid game goes back to its 2D roots
The only reason Samus could grab ledges in fusion was because her suit was a lot lighter than the normal power suit that also might explain why her wall jump sent her flying in fusion because of how light it is.
There's actually an explanation for that whole power grip thing. Samus couldn't grab ledges in Metroid 2 and Super Metroid because of her big, heavy suit. She can easily do it without her suit, as shown in this game. In Metroid Fusion, the suit was much lighter so she could do it naturally. But in this game, her suit is heavy again, which means she needed the powerup to do it.
I love the ending of the game. Sneaking through the Space Pirate Ship and Chozodia, you feel so vunerable. You can't hurt anything, not even the weakest enemies. Then you get your fully-powered-suit and BING! BANG! BOOM! It just feels so good to go back though and just shoot shoot shoot. Now you annihilate the Space Pirates with just one or two shots. It's like "wow this is awesome," you feel so powerful! P.S. Having the Space Jump and the Gravity suit is awesome, as well. :)
just finished this game on an emulator and wow this game is awesome ^^. this is the 1st metroid ive finished lol. thanks to your reviews ive decided to try and get them all, so far i have metroid 1, fusion, super metroid, other M and thinkin about gettin metroid 2 on virtual console. this series is awesome :)
2 things. 1, I always come back to this review for the pepsi joke. That face just says.... "Then what the fuck did I drink yesterday?". Also, one of my favorite things in gaming, is when you have no power, but you know you're getting it soon and look at all the enemies along the way that are giving you shit and say "I can't wait to blow you to hell in a few minutes with just one trigger pull". Fewer things in gaming give me such joy. I hate that some games strip you of that power you had been gaining yourself in order to do it, but I still understand why.

looking forward to when Johnny remakes the Metroid Reviews
