High-Mile & Daily Driven Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale - One Take

  • Today we head over to the UK, near Windsor, to visit an interesting chap with an interesting daily driver. Scott Chivers wanted a 360 Challenge Stradale in the worst way, at precisely the wrong time - when he bought this car, the Challenge Stradale was more than double the price of a standard 360 F1. Fancying himself a tinkerer, Scott bought every single part you'd need in order to turn a 360 Modena into a CS, and converted the car himself. With the exception of the VIN number, there is no way to tell the car wasn't born as a CS, as literally every single part is correct. In order to do this, he spent over $130,000 on parts, which, in today's market, seems silly. Nevertheless, Scott has put over 70,000 miles on his Stradale, daily driving it for the better part of a decade, and absolutely beating the shit out of it in the process. The sound alone is worth it.
    Note: in this video, the car exhibits a strange behavior from the rear end alignment. A subsequent inspection revealed a VERY bad Left Rear wheel bearing, which has since been repaired.

      "The sound of No Torque, whoopee"
      the 360 stradale is one of the greatest sounding cars in history, and maybe the best sounding ferrari in history
      meanwhile the USA pumps out how many V8's that redline at 6000rpm?? sure they make the power but in a brutish and crude way, and for my own tastes american V8's aren't actually crazy enough, i need me a dodge viper, and those have N/A 8.0L+ v10s that don't make peak torque until 5000rpm.....

      @@fernank017 I agree with Keenan. Usually people associate supercars with them not being driven and it extends to all supercars but really the key here should be exactly GROUND CLEARANCE. • @vdochev
      @vdochev 6 лет назад +5

      ChaosphereIX Totally agree. If something brakes you fix it or replace it, because you need to maintain it so you can drive it regularly. If it was a garage queen and you drive it once a year, you'll be scared what will brake next. A well maintained and regularly serviced car is always better than a car that sits.

    That momentary pause/delay you hear between when he taps the paddle, and when the gear actually shifts, is just like in a stick-shift. That pause in between shifts is the clutch being actuated automatically, or depressed, like how the driver would in a conventional three-pedal manual transmission. Just like how the driver would disengage the clutch, and move the stick, in a standard manual transmission.
    This is an automated manual, so that's why it behaves like that. It is a bit slow, but it's still quicker than any human shifting a standard transmission with a clutch.

    I remember seeing Ferrari 360 Challenge cars (actually, Challenge was the name of the race, not the model name) run as support races for the USGP in the 2000s and I don't remember them sounding so nice. I'd imagine they had open pipes, so that's why I'm a bit surprised, but then again, maybe my brain is off, 'cause that was a long time ago. heh
    Here's a link to the race I was talking about:

    Great video! Thanks!

    Epic Stradale!
    And he owns the Testarossa convertible from Sega’s “OUTRUN”!
    I’m guessing a conversion, not the one built for Agnelli?

    This imo in the best looking, best steering (when there are no alignment or suspension issues) Ferrari of all time. When it comes to sound it only comes second to the v12 in the f12.
