In an interview Tyler said one of the producers or engineers was like, "Do you really want to have that line in there 'My name is Blurryface....'" "You know that will never make it on the radio". And here we are with the song that won them a grammy. Stay true to yourself.
Ironically, I saw them just a couple days later after they won that Grammy 🤣. Back in 2017 they came to Fresno on Valentines Day to do a concert. It. Was. Packed. Tyler stopped the concert for a bit and played Mario Kart against who was considered the best player in our city, and just put the race on the giant screen so we could all watch. I think Tyler won, but just barely. Then they decided to put Josh on a strong wooden plank that his whole drum set would fit on AND FUCKING CROWD SURFED HIM. I haven’t been to a lot of concerts in my life really - the “Glee” show did a tour twice (I got to see it before season 3 started meaning I got to see Darren Criss who’s now a big celebrity, and I actually knew one of the main actors on the show since he’s from the same city), I saw Flogging Molly, saw Twenty One Pilots, saw The Rolling Stones, and I saw David Bowie. Bowie was my first ever concert back in 2004 for my 14th birthday (no one will ever match him in terms of concert performance or as my own personal idol who helped shape me), and thank God my birthday was in January because just a couple months later he had to cancel most of the tour for heart surgery. I would put Twenty One Pilots under him for entertainment and showmanship, and I saw the “Stones” a year after I saw Bowie - they’d be third (and I wish they had been more personable like David and Tyler were with the audience), then Flogging Molly (some of whom I met, but you have to like punk and Irish sound to love them), and then the “Glee” concert. None of the concerts were shit - they were all good, but some just have to be better than others. I’m still trying to see if at some point I can see Brendon Urie or Fall Out Boy though.
even Tyler once said that Stressed Out is overplayed and overstayed and said that overplayed songs sound like crap lol but please keep it up with top, we really enjoy it
I was literally just reading about that, how he changed the lyrics of the first verse in a live performance. If anyone's curious: "I wish I wrote a different song no one's ever heard. I wish my mom would just admit she's sick of every word. Overplayed, overstayed, it was a smash hit. Funny how overplayed songs sound like crap. I was told our true fans don't like this song. But I hope they sing along. I hope they sing along."
Yeah the song was overplayed, but it also was one of Tyler's favorite songs and he's sad the 'real' fans don't like it anymore. But he hopes the fans will sing along
The most annoying thing about this song blowing up like it did is that the entire song is stuff that Tyler himself disagrees with. The whole song is from blurryface's perspective, which is kind of everything wrong with Tyler personified. So basically he makes a song about perspectives on life he sometimes has but doesn't consider to be healthy, and people go crazy relating to it and and saying he's so wise for having these perspectives. And if you wanna hear what blurryface is from Tyler himself, I'd definitely say Goner is the best explanation he gives (at least outside of interviews, although arguably more direct than most of those). Should definitely react to Goner though. It's somber and kinda simple, but has really deep metaphors and kinda explains the album. And it's always fun watching reactions to it.
Yeah true. But that’s why I said this video blew up because people don’t even listen to the words. Which is sad. They just heard the catch melody and ran with it. But we know.

Blurryface is the personification of Tyler's fears. a character inside his mind. he has control over tyler, and that is shown with black hands and neck.
Also, he created Blurryface so he has an actual "person" to confront when he is working through his anxiety and depression. Fairly Local is a song I’d love to see you dissect. I want to see what you think, without the influence of others! I see it requested a lot so cmon man, ya hurtin me famo, I need this!

The guys in the bedrooms are their brothers and you see the, with the rest of the family in the video as well. Blurryface album was red, everything was red. Trench is yellow and now yellow is in the videos, clothes, merch, etc. Most of the fans at the concerts I went to this year were wearing yellow, a lot wear floral kimonos like Tyler wears. So the colors are the TOP uniform. :D
This was also the song that got me into them, and I also don't listen to the radio so I didn't suffer from the overplay that other people did. Also I'm guessing you know this, but the color symbolism goes deeper than just being the thematic colors of the albums. Red represents Blurryface/Nico and the bishops of Dema, and the yellow represents the Banditos and resistance of the bishops and their control.
That is funny. I for the EXACT same reason I avoided this duo. The song that hooked me afterwards was "Ride". After that... never turned back. Now I love this group and purchased all their albums.

You can make a whole hour of TØP reactions, and still won't be enough. I really like how you actually dissect every single aspect of the song/video, so keep it up. You probably didn't notice the part of the Capri sun reference between this video and The Hype, tho. Also, the handshake returns in one of their newest videos of the Trench album. Hopefully you'll react to that soon.
9:19 this is tyler's brother, Zack. You can hear Tyler saying his name in lane boy "if you ask zack, He's my brother, he likes when I rap fast". Also, he raps in one of their songs, named Kitchen sink, you should check it
@@celeste1737 I was just referencing the one where Ernest asked who was the guy with the headphones lol. That is cool to know that that was Jordan though because he isn't featured or mentioned much
When they go to the first house. They are at josh's house. The boy sitting there is josh's brother Jordan. At the second house its the brother of Tyler
A+ on this reaction and was low key wondering when you would do this bc I knew you passed on them due to the overplay. I did the same then started getting into their lyrics and one day found TOP self titled from 2009 which is crazy deep. Would love to see you do a few from that album to show their growth and how different the sounds were (before Josh joined the band).
Yeah they have a really interesting story and growth and some older albums songs only on RUclips due to when they signed they redid that album with Fueled By Ramen. Any TOP reactions from you I’m on board with. I suggest maybe doing a full album review or two part series for Self Titled so you can touch on it. They are a fully album listen band imo
tyler said that blurryface is the personification of everything he doesn't like about himself (depression, anxiety, fears ...) he said: "it represents all the insecurities that I as an individual and all the people around have." tyler wore black ink on his hands and neck during his tour shows and album videos, representing Blurryface, saying "Very dramatic, I know, but it helps me get into this character." also shows how blurryface influences what he writes (black ink on his hands) and what he sings and speaks (black ink on his neck/throat)
I love your channel. I recently found you, but you easily became one of my favorite you tubers. You don’t just do a simple “yeah, it’s okay” type of reaction. You go deep into the meaning, the sound, and the production of the song. You are so great, and I really appreciate that!
The guy sitting on the chair in the first house is Jordan Dun I believe (Josh’s brother) and the second guy sitting on the bed is Zack Joseph (one of Tyler’s brothers)
If you are open to music and how deep song meanings can go, you should check out one of the biggest bands that does this "Tool". Start with "Sober" and you might fall head first down the rabbit hole... and it's a very deep hole at that. Would love to hear your break down of their songs.
Dude I love your reactions. You give the best description and analysis to the videos of all reaction videos I’ve watched. I would love to see you do more twenty one pilots videos because you actually break the shit down
I'm a year late but... He also rhymes shrink and think in the first verse after the non rhyme. To reiterate that he cares about the way he's perceived now, as an adult. His pen game is literally perfect. 🖤
Hey dude I've seen a lot of reactions of this track, this one is the best so far defo no worries u did not like it earlier when u watched it u got it right I'm a part of this family now Lots of love FROM INDIA🇮🇳
The video was shot in both of their old childhood homes and the people in the video are their actual family. blurry face is like slim shady, tyler’s alter ego that represents his insecurities and doubts. the black on his hands and neck represents, in a sense, blurryface taking over and making him fear the things he writes and sings and makes him insecure about them. their story just gets deeper and deeper the more videos you watch. i’m waiting for Kitchen Sink, Levitate, Forest and Addict With a Pen lol which i hope are coming soon. i love your videos especially on Twenty One Pilots and NF. thank you, i hope this helped :)
Lol same reaction.. i didnt check them out until 2018 because they won the Grammys and people are talking about them constantly. But the death of Chester made me check them out just because Chester loves them so much and I was like, give them a chance in honor of Chazz. I didnt know I would love them more than any other bands ive known
"Wake up you need to make money" definitely fits your feeling for it, but I think even more important is that almost ALL of us can remember the day your parent gives you the talk that its time to get out of the house and get a job instead of playing around with your friends. Parents and teachers are two of the biggest culprits for killers of creativity in children because of social norms.
So the first guy with the headphones is Josh’s Brother, Jordan, and the second guy on the bed with the headphones is Tyler’s Brother, Zack, who is also featured in a song, Kitchen Sink. And the homes where they filmed is their actual childhood homes. And for Blurryface, he’s represented in songs as Tyler but a much deeper voice, like in the second bridge, or high pitched voice, like in the pre-chorus.
Also Zack (dude with headphones on the bed) who is Tyler’s bro does a crazy fast rap in a song called Kitchen Sink (super fan favorite) which I bet many people would love to hear you react to it. I would
Super reaction, I really liked you analysing yourself in why you refused to like it earlier, I do that with almost every "super hit wonder" , because it IS usually without any substance. Loved this, go go go more ToP. Hugs from Sweden.
The first house they go in was Josh’s (the drummer) childhood home, and the first guy with the headphones on was Josh’s brother. The second house they went to was Tyler (the singer) childhood home and the second guy with the headphones on was Tyler’s brother. And all the people in black and grey standing above the beds are both of their families.
When you're gonna start going deeper into the "twenty one pilots hole", I'm so looking forward to you discovering the whole Dema/Trench storyline and giving your amazing intelligent comments to it :)!
The guy on the bed is Zack who is Tyler’s Brother, who you can be heard mentioned in lane boy “if you ask Zack, he’s my brother who likes when I rap fast” Zack also has his own verse in their song Kitchen Sink and Blurryface is the name of Tyler’s insecurities, Blurryface being the one who has taken him over in a course of life
Ernest, for real, i could listen to you for hours, you really make everything so interesting 😊 You point out things i didn't hear or saw before. Great job 😍 Love and light from Sweden 🇸🇪
the guy with the headphones is Tyler's brother because their talking about going back in time, so in that scene was when they first started off the band because tylers brother was originally in TOP
HANDS DOWN, their BEST SONG is HOLDING ONTO YOU. With your background in, and understanding of production, in addition to the manner in which you analyze lyrics...You’ll love it. The double entendre‘s are back to back, and there are even third layers to various lines, or “Bars” as you refer to them ;) The overall composition is perfect, and the various components and transitions are, in my opinion, the best and most exemplary example of their style. It also incorporates all of your favorite lyrical themes. The video is pretty interesting as well. Lastly, although the production is excellent, there’s something more raw and authentic about it, due to the fact that the song was written back when they only had those 12 fans, but the video and song came out just as they were blowing up. SO, PLEASE check out “HOLDING ONTO YOU.” :)
I'm a 45 yo homemaker and this is one of my favorite bands because of the lyrics. Despite the age difference, the emotional impact of them gets me - I identify with the depression and anxiety and pressure. They are brilliant.
the first room is at Joshs childhood home and the guy is Jordan(Josh's brother) the second room is at Tylers childhood home and the headphones dude is Zack(Tylers brother) the whole place is their actual neighborhood where they grew up. there is a "making of ..." video to it
And I know everyone already knows this, but that wordplay “out of student loans and treehouse homes, we all would take the ladder” is awesome. Because ladder, like ladder to the treehouse, but latter like we’d all choose the treehouse over the student loans 🔥
I think next you should totally check out "fairly local". Because the deep voice would make much more sense that way. But honestly I'd like to see you react to "fake you out", it's a really deep and meaningful song. It means a lot to me.
I know other people have probably already explained it, but Blurryface as a character is the embodiment of Tyler's anxiety, self doubt, and fears. He comes up in a number of their songs (in Goner there is the line "I've got two faces, Blurry's the one I'm not" for example). The black paint on his hands and neck are as you said a representation of his fears about the things he writes and sings, fears that people won't like what he makes, and fears that he is making generic things just to please people (like in Lane Boy he says "There's a few songs on this record that feel common , I'm in constant confrontation with what I want and what is poppin'"). Also through their newest album, Trench, we learned that Blurryface's true name is Nicolas Bourbaki (Nico for short), and he is the head of the Nine Bishops that control Dema. People think that the bishops are different manifestations of fears and doubts, and that Dema is a representation of feeling stuck where you are and needing to overcome those doubts in order to grow and move on with your life. In Doubt, which is on Blurryface, but foreshadows the concepts that got fleshed out on Trench, there is a verse that says "Gnawing on the bishops , claw away at the system, repeating simple phrases, someone holy insisted." The bishops are represented by the color red (hence the red clothes and eyes in this and other videos), and are blind to the color yellow (hence the yellow tape and clothes from the Trench era and videos). As you might imagine there is a lot more I could go into about the symbolism and ideas that TOP uses in their lyrics and videos, including who/what the real world Nicolas Bourbaki was, Vialism, the Banditos, as well as Josh's different manifestations of his fears, but I don't want this to become a full essay so I'll make myself stop here.
If you weren't aware, the concept of the Blurryface album is that the character Blurryface is an alter ego representing all of Tyler's negative qualities and insecurities. You'll hear him referenced/singing especially in Fairly Local and Goner
I like how they had their brothers just sitting around all bored, just like back in the day. Lol. I agree on writing off songs due to hype. I do the same thing. But I have an awesome appreciation of this song and everything they do now.
I felt the same way about twenty one pilots when I first heard this song especially being in public school, thank goodness my brother showed me who they really were and I've been a huge fan ever since
I think one of the things that made this song take off, beyond the hook and catchy quality of music, is that everyone can relate to it at a point in their life. Regardless of upbringing or culture, there is that floaty void where as you grow up, you miss certain parts of your childhood and everyone on some level wishes life could be easier. I think a lot of people felt vindicated hearing the thoughts (that maybe they didn't want to admit to) coming from other people. And if there are people who genuinely hate on this song because of the lyrics (musical tastes aside), it always has me thinking about what they are wanting to forget or ignore from a time that is supposed to be easier. But that's what TOP does, they give you the opportunity to think, and if that's uncomfortable for some people, what can you do?
I just came back from a three day vacation in San Diego where my husband and I went to see twenty one pilots and it was amazing! They played a two hour set and it was hands-down the best concert I’ve ever been to!
First time I heard this song the hook sounded to me like, "Life is blurry things and I care what you think," not "My name's blurryface and I care what you think." Very interesting...
If you noticed the guy with the headphones wasn’t the same guy both times. First, it was Joshs brother, when they were at Joshs house, Jordan Dun. The other guy was Tyler’s brother Zack
Blurry face is the embodiment of everything Tyler is insecure about or considers his flaws. And he mentions trying to overcome him- not fixing his flaws, but not letting them control him and (Trench) becoming who he wants to be. Not official, just how I perceive the albums
Blurryface is the embodiment of tyler's mental struggles (anxiety, depression, etc.). The character has gone through a bit of evolution throughout its existence, the most recent iteration takes the form of The Nine Bishops who dominate Tyler's conceptual world of trench.
the only other reactor I've seen to get about all the "latter, ladder, treehouse" thing was dylan from dylan will not participate, all his insights in music in general was so good and then I found you who is almost like him with insights, I just wish you would post more about other artists

Thanks man!
Also, he raps in one of their songs, named Kitchen sink, you should check it
Aye cool prof pic! Love BMTH as much as I love TØP
@@BlisQuest same! They're 2 of my favorite bands
That dude with the headphones is Zack Joseph, Tyler's brother. When you listen to kitchen sink he's the one who raps!
Ritchie R also if i'm not mistaken in "Lane Boy" if name drops him by saying "If you ask Zack, my brother cause he likes when I rap fast"
Ritchie R The first one they show is Josh’s brother Jordan in their childhood home, the second is Zach in his and Tyler’s home they grew up in
@@JohnS-mv8go Yep same Zack
@@celeste1737 I was just referencing the one where Ernest asked who was the guy with the headphones lol. That is cool to know that that was Jordan though because he isn't featured or mentioned much
When they go to the first house. They are at josh's house. The boy sitting there is josh's brother Jordan. At the second house its the brother of Tyler
You should definitely do neon gravestones. It is much a more deeper song.
Appreciate you watching! And yeah would love to hear them before they became who they are now
Yeah they have a really interesting story and growth and some older albums songs only on RUclips due to when they signed they redid that album with Fueled By Ramen.
You are so great, and I really appreciate that!
bro you're definitely the best person who does reaction of music
I had the exact same impression when i first came across tøp. With this song I thought it was overhyped until I became a die hard tøp fan.
I’m a pretty big fan now as well!
Alright, I just subscribed for more TOP reacts! Please do more!! You are so good at interpreting the songs!!!
They filmed it in their actual childhood homes.
I love tool. They lyrics are crazy cryptic. The drum solo at the beginning of Sober is one of the best 4 seconds I’ve ever heard
Omg YES I've waited so long for this song!!!
Listen to heavydirtysoul next! Also great reaction!
Dude I love your reactions. You give the best description and analysis to the videos of all reaction videos I’ve watched. I would love to see you do more twenty one pilots videos because you actually break the shit down
This was filmed at their childhood homes and that was their neighborhoods in Columbus, Ohio.
I can't wait for holding on to you or forest
"Before all the anxiety and depression that comes along with being an adult"
Me, a kid with anxiety and depression: Well, I'm screwed
You’re about to learn a lot. I’m just gonna get my popcorn and watch 🍿
I'm a year late but... He also rhymes shrink and think in the first verse after the non rhyme. To reiterate that he cares about the way he's perceived now, as an adult. His pen game is literally perfect. 🖤
Hey dude
I've seen a lot of reactions of this track, this one is the best so far defo
no worries u did not like it earlier when u watched it u got it right
I'm a part of this family now
Lots of love FROM INDIA🇮🇳
Ernest I love your breakdowns. Best on the tube.
Knox Hill pointed out that there's 21 parts to their handshake.... Like 21 pilots 👀 dope
Your honest and authentic assessment of yourself and your opinion versus 1.8 billion with a B is so real. Good man
bro I waited so long for this, you got me crazy excited when I read the title!
Props for hittin that 30k subs mark! You should celebrate with a super hyped breakdown of best friend!
Also Zack (dude with headphones on the bed) who is Tyler’s bro does a crazy fast rap in a song called Kitchen Sink (super fan favorite) which I bet many people would love to hear you react to it. I would
That was DOPE dude! 👊 honesty pays well! You are sharing GOLD! (I dub you an honorary bandito) DOPE GOLD!
The other guy is Jordon Dun, Joshs’ brother. 😁😁😁 He’s into woodworking and has a RUclips channel.
The first guy was Josh's brother Jordan. Second one was Tyler's brother Zack who also did song with him called Kitchen sink. He raps there and it 🔥
Super reaction, I really liked you analysing yourself in why you refused to like it earlier, I do that with almost every "super hit wonder" , because it IS usually without any substance. Loved this, go go go more ToP. Hugs from Sweden.
I loved your face during the handshake! XD awesome video as always
Oh yeah 🙏 It's a whole new world, to say the least ... Ernest, we know you will love it 😍
Sometimes I just gotta step away from life. Giving you these 15mns gives me the break I need to get back at it. Thank you!
HANDS DOWN, their BEST SONG
is HOLDING ONTO YOU.
Thanks for revisiting this song and giving them a chance. I just really enjoy your reaction videos to TØP!
Good Lord! Finally a reaction video with depth and eloquent thoughtful responses. [SUBSCRIBED] Thanks for this.
i literally yelled "NO!" when you told your cat to get out the video lol! Such a cutie(:
the first room is at Joshs childhood home and the guy is Jordan(Josh's brother) the second room is at Tylers childhood home and the headphones dude is Zack(Tylers brother)
the whole place is their actual neighborhood where they grew up. there is a "making of ..." video to it
You should definitely do Fairly Local, Heavydirtysoul, Kitchen Sink, Holding Onto You, Levitate
As usual great job bro...keep up the good work and keep the TØP coming😊👍
Be sure to do more Studio Sessions of theirs.😁
It’s at 2 billion views now🤯
And I know everyone already knows this, but that wordplay “out of student loans and treehouse homes, we all would take the ladder” is awesome.
The black paint on his hands and neck are as you said a representation of his fears about the things he writes and sings, fears that people won't like what he makes, and fears that he is making generic things just to please people (like in Lane Boy he says "There's a few songs on this record that feel common
, I'm in constant confrontation with what I want and what is poppin'").
In Doubt, which is on Blurryface, but foreshadows the concepts that got fleshed out on Trench, there is a verse that says "Gnawing on the bishops
, claw away at the system, repeating simple phrases, someone holy insisted." The bishops are represented by the color red (hence the red clothes and eyes in this and other videos), and are blind to the color yellow (hence the yellow tape and clothes from the Trench era and videos).
I felt the same way about twenty one pilots when I first heard this song especially being in public school, thank goodness my brother showed me who they really were and I've been a huge fan ever since
Great breakdown of another TØP song as always, my boy!
Ha funeral for creativity. That's dope.
Haha thanks man! I said it and was like oooo. That was kinda dope. Lol
First time I heard this song the hook sounded to me like, "Life is blurry things and I care what you think," not "My name's blurryface and I care what you think." Very interesting...
I died with the Handmaid’s Tale reference 😂 #BlessedBeTheFruit ... great reaction by the way 👍🏼
If you noticed the guy with the headphones wasn’t the same guy both times. First, it was Joshs brother, when they were at Joshs house, Jordan Dun. The other guy was Tyler’s brother Zack
every time its a TØP video i click so fast, there are still so many good songs id like to see you react. Kitchen Sink (live) would be my next pick :)
You the goat of breaking down the lyrics. Make me enjoy music so much more.
Blurry face is the embodiment of everything Tyler is insecure about or considers his flaws. And he mentions trying to overcome him- not fixing his flaws, but not letting them control him and (Trench) becoming who he wants to be.
Not official, just how I perceive the albums
Absolutely love your videos and how in-depth you get with the analysis. You definitely have to listen to Pet Cheetah. Trust me man, you'll love it.
I really enjoy what you do. Very insightful and I enjoy hearing your thoughts. Good work.
Each home had their brother chilling with them. Just like it would have been in their childhood
Holding on to you live !!!
