K100 is a 12km long storm water drain that starts under the iconic Shantala Silks at Majestic and flows down via Shantinagar and Koramangala into Bellandur Lake. It is the primary drain of the Koramangala Challaghatta valley.
It was originally a natural seasonal stream that got neglected and encroached upon little by little as its catchment area urbanised. By the 2000's the K100 was in a very poor condition. There were over a hundred million litres per day of sewage flowing into it illegally. People used it as a dumping ground for dry waste.
In 2020, the Government of Karnataka decided to revive the drain and convert it from an open sewer into a public space. Over the last two years they have removed 30000 tons of silt, diverted 100 MLD of sewage, and rebuilt the bridges and retaining walls along the stretch.
Today, the project is close to completion and is expected to open to the public in 2024.
In this film we meet people who live by the drain and speak to the architects, engineers and government officers who have worked on the project.

This is the project where the government should be spending money on - not the so called sky deck project which will be just another selfie point for the rich and affluent. Bangalore is in dire need of such green walkways. Great thought, beautiful teamwork and an effective documentary.
K100 is an inspiration for all of the metropolitan cities and shows that nothing is impossible.

As a child of this city it really saddens me whenever people speak ill of my city. It has been very difficlt to educate my own lane residents to seperate waste and stop dumping garbage in the road. Hope such projects are taken up at all wards to reviv our Bengaluru, would like to be part of such initiatives and volunteer when possible..All the best to the team..

This is very heartening to see. Brings more BBMP and BWSSB officers doing good work into the limelight.
I think this is a very big step in terms of a inter - departmental effort to make something work in the city of Bengaluru. Non coordination between departments have been an issue since ages where sometimes newly laid roads get dug by various other departments for their respective work and so on. This project sort of becomes a case study for all future projects of developing the urban infrastructure and making it more people centric. Definitely looking forward to taking a stroll on the K100 once it is open to public and also hoping to see many more such projects in Namma Bengaluru in the future.

The engineers and the technicians on this project should be sent to study "Cheonggyecheon Stream" in Seoul, South Korea and try to implement a similar design in Bangalore.

Looks like I am late for this video. This is wonderful initiative... But We need to educate and provide alternative for people to manage sewage also. If not they will be back to how they were.

They are currently doing a project in Kalyan Nagar, near the storm water drain. The project is a walking/running path parallel to the drain and they have to stopped sewage flow quite a bit. Looking foward to see the results

Just an awesome documentary... A larger project (waterway)in North bangalore is needed.. The government should allow a Higher FSI in the CBD for a skyline of bangalore to be developed.
Great project if done right! I am more concerned about people polluting it by throwing garbage in fresh water.

This must be implemented near hennur. The stench there seriously repulses people, and the water body is very huge. If this is replicated there, it would be really nice for the people living,
Adopt rain water harvesting in every house malls private buildings government buildings to overcome water crises
Great documentary! Though I don't live in Bangalore, I love the city. More than anything else projects like these bring about positivity in the siloed govt departments and citizenry as a whole. However, there is the aspect of scalability though. If this project was conceived by a person on top and they took a personal interest in getting it done, then it may be a one-off. I hope I am wrong and something like this acts as a pilot and departments take initiatives themselves and do it. That is where we lack. We transform one piece of land really well when someone wants to get it done, but are never able to replicate it with the same vigour once the pressure is off
What happened to the K100 project? Is it dead? I don’t see any work happening on this even the same government which initiated this project is currently in governance.

Very good initiative for city of very high importance. But this should be a time bound process and should not be a project to mint money by politicians.
A whopping 850 km!! what's even the point when fixing 12km is such a headache. Tendersure project for footpaths was somewhat successful, can be expanded.
I have seen several Ring Well over this water passage whats that for can anybody explain...?
Public should also coperate with government they should not throw garbage on water nice to see this
