  • Today were going to unbox and review the Polaris P965IQ as my wife has insisted upon a more automated means for pool cleaning than our custom method of using the husband for this task. This is the same as the P9650IQ however we bought it through Leslies and it carries a different model number. The hope is that this device might be so much fun that the Mrs's might take over the job. This model, also wireless ready allows for network connectivity and supported by both Iphone and Android. It does not connect to the pool plumbing, having its own self contained filter, only a cable which supplies power and control signaling from the caddie.
    We start with assembly, there were no issues at all with this task, though it does require some room to assemble and get everything situated. All parts are snap fit and do not require any special tools. An inspection of the filter shows it to be extremely fine mesh and should do a good job on collecting even sand from a pool bottom.
    With assembly completed, the apps are installed on both phones' operating systems, though, as its lowered into the pool for the first time, we use the regular caddie program to see what happens. Based on the settings of the caddie an algorithm will clean the pool though when faced with an obstacle or turned on its back it has jets and other countermeasures to restore stability.
    With pool deck construction in this example we have both DE and sand in the pool, we see one small issue here, with a lot of fine particulate matter, the filter can become easily clogged, and as such there will not be enough vacuum for the retrieve mode to lift the unit out automatically. This device should not be used for a nasty pool, but for a pool receiving regular maintenance. The good news is the really fine matter n a pool is collected by this unit. In this case we stop to clean the filter and proceed. The lift system is retested, and works fine.
    Next day we try the Iphone app with the annoying app creation requirement. Having gone through all of the steps to complete connectivity and other useless information for a pool cleaner, we try out the app. The app does work if you are trying to hit a particular area of the pool, though i cant imagine spending hours outside controlling a pool robot.
    All in all it does a fantastic job, the app allows for the convenience of moving to a particular location as needed, and the filter of the unit captures really fine matter, but can clog quickly. The storage caddie is also very nice.

    Is this the only robotic cleaner you have tested? Thank you for such a fantastic review. I am having a little trouble justifying the price, but you get what you pay for sometimes.

      This all depends on the state of the pool before you toss the unit in, it can vary.

    Just wanted to see if you could give an update on if the cleaner if it’s still running two years later? Was considering getting this cleaner as it seems to be a pretty good price on certain sites on the Internet but would refrain from the great bargain price if there’s a reason for it being so cheap? Thanks

      Indeed it is, without fail. Thou we rinse it with fresh water after each use.

    How does this cleaner do on the waterline/tile line? I know it had trouble getting out that one time when it was full of stuff, how has it been since? I would like to have one that is able to consistently clean the waterline. Thanks

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  2 года назад

      It climbs up and scrubs the tile line, a feature can have it do the walls to a greater ratio in the settings.

    Have you ever had it flip on it’s back while cleaning the waterline? If so did you have to flip it over or did it do it itself

    • @retrotechandelectronics

      a combination of water jets and the wheels turn the unit back over automatically.

    Will it go over the pool drains without any difficulty or will it get stuck?

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  4 года назад

      It does not get stuck on drains or stairs and has jets to flip it right side up should it get stuck

      Yes. Where I live sand blows in all of the time. It collects it with no issue.

      It’s fantastic! Unless the pool is really nasty that would require multiple filter cleanings, it takes care of everything and recovers from flipovers and other obstacles.

      No issues at all since purchase, fire and forget. The filter basket is very fine so it catches everything. I use it on automatic, not nintendo mode.

    How clean did your pool get?

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  3 года назад

      It gets everything but if its really dirty you will have to pull it once or twice to empty.

  • @gauloiscalifornien
    @gauloiscalifornien 4 года назад

    I think there is 2 type of filters, maybe the one with the unit is too fine for a dirty pool.

    • @retrotechandelectronics
      @retrotechandelectronics  4 года назад

      I've heard that. The fine one works great though. We throw ours in once a week on the default cycle and forget about it until the timer goes off. We do not collect enough debris for the filter to be an issue. I'm sure after a hurricane we would use the old fashioned method to get everything back to normal.
