I can appreciate the effort he puts in,but seriously, there is absolutely no need for fit and finish as he calls it,except for fisherman to have something to brag about to other fisherman.and this isn't being rude,it's being flat out practical.look,I can garantee you one thing.the fish just simply don't care how pretty your boat is,or your rod,or what brand cloths you got on.all of that is just for the benifet of showing off to those around you.all that is important on a rod,all that should matter,is what can make the rod physically perform better,or last longer.thats it.i mean, down south,we been bagging big cats for years on little more than a milk jug or a fiberglass rod jammed in the bank lol.and guess what? the fish didn't care one bit lol.i promise they don't.and again,I can appreciate this guy's level of skill and commitment but there's a limit on what's a reasonable price to ask for a fishing pole.and in a way this elitest mentality ruins the sport of fishing as now it just becomes a sport of who can spend the most money.my gears better because it has a bigger price tag.you suck cuase you can't afford what I have.and again, through it all,the fish really just don't care lol.the only thing we are doing here is making ourselves look foolish and we should stop it.get fishing back to what it use to be,a sport everybody can enjoy regardless of their bank rolls.we shouldn't need to spend gobs of cash on fishing gear like we often do.its not nessisary.
I got into rod building 5 years ago. I spent a year using the same few cheap blanks practicing before I bought my first high end blank. It was I believe a 20-40lb United composites blank. Maybe 15-40. Took me many, many, many hours to finish that rod. All top end components. I've gotten MUCH better aesthetically since that rod but damnit if I don't love that rod the most. Nothing better than catching fish with a rod you built. I had a 66lb bluefin on that rod a couple months ago actually. Caught a 224lb bluefin on a 80-130 rod I built last year. It's fun.
Met Randy Towe and Joanie in the keys Traveling. They took my family and I in like family. I had the pleasure to do some work for Randy and had the chance to watch him build some Fishing Rods. He does every Rod by hand. Beautiful workmanship. Miss you Randy.
I wonder if a guy could sell pistol grip casting rods? I don't know of anything besides ultra cheapo deals being sold right now. I'd like a few for close quarters bass.
