It's a great testament to the English dumbification system when millions of people are so much more articulate and skilled in English, as a second or maybe third language, than the majority of the natives are with their own. Fantastic my friend, and thank you for the video.
Trying to learn how ro build my own rod and this video poped up after severall videos i have watched. Man this is the best video i have ever seen. Nice job
Thank you so much for sharing - excellent work and really nice listening to you, your technical English is great and "jellify" is the perfect choice of words in the context of resin :)
Thank you for sharing! I coat guides at my job it helps I usually burn and then precoat the guides. It also helps if you use heat to smooth it out. After I zippo lighter each guide then I put in a thick layer and smooth it out with a brush. I only go 1/16th outwards so the thread doesn’t soak up. Please watch out for pullbacks or the rod will soak it all up.
IT is because there’s where the thread goes up the foot of the guide …. If I would’ve done the inserts after the bump, where the surface is flat , the issue would not be there anymore !
If you have big guides, you might not be able to do them all without some exercise, because it takes longer for each guide, and the resin might start to harden faster.
What if you don't have a Rod-Spinner-9000 and only have one that does 9 rpm's? I even thinned my first coat with 99% isopropal alcohol and it came out a little bumpy. Should I have added heat with a burner?
With a 9rpm, it takes time and experimenting to get the hang of it… first you need a goood understanding of how the resin works at different stages ! It’s 2 much to put into words !
Excellent demonstration. When you added extra epoxy to the guide that the thread showed through did you use the gel like mix or did you make up a fresh mix?
The gel like mix, is the same batch of epoxy… it starts as really fluid but after 20-40min it starts to gelify and harden. If it doesn’t sip through as is … and it starts to gelify… it needs some help from a lighter !
Hello Andrei greetings from Galapagos gps, a beautiful corner of the Pacific, I liked your video. Where can I get a lathe like that to repair the reeds and the lighter too Thank you very much
Can I use fiber glass resin to do this I’m guessing that epoxy resin is more clear unlike the fiberglass resin? Jst trying to work with what I already have. Thanks
hi great video .. I am going to attempt to re coat old poles that are hand crafted by my uncle about 15 years ago ? my question is what are your tricks to do so ?
Hey man cool that Youre showing how the small work is done ! Ive got a question for you im trying to make some icefishingrods but i need to put some coating on the rod blank its self its pretty fragile and its not carbon in them well in one but do you have any tips on how i should coat them ? Should i just use epoxy coating and hang them up with tipupwards ? Never seen a power wrapper before i assembled,/built a fly rod over 15years ago and i used s discoball motor and some wood and made a wrapping machine rough but it did the work . Very explanatory video! Regards Paul Roger The rods are 50cm and longer .
How's the best way to fix a wavey finish that is over a decal and the rod logo? Also over a thread band of about 1.5" long? Three coats thick of CRB ProKote medium build. Great video. Thanks.
sand it on a power wrapper with lots of 600grit paper, until it's somewhat straight. Then recoat it with a thinn layer. I don't know if you can do that without the power wrapper though!
@@asavafishing Thanks for the tip. I use the Flex Coat variable speed slip chuck device. Low budget. Maybe I'll get Thread Master Epoxy and put it over the sanded CRB ProKote. I've never had experienced a wavey finish before. The ProKote is 11 months old. Thanks Again for your response.
You need the same guide... you can warm the wrap up with a hair drier. Pull gently moving from side to side, then with 2part epoxy, you can actually glue in the new guide. Not as pretty, but it does the trick :P
I purchased the same epoxy and it seemed to thicker and tough to move around. Room was 68-70 Fahrenheit. Did I mix wrong? Yours seemed.much easier to push around. Also was using 9rpm drying motor to finish. Does speed help you? Thanks!
Speed only helps me spread it, nothing more. If you apply it using a slow rpm motor instead of a power wrapper, you have to adjust technique. You need the speed in order for the resin not to start setting until you get to the last guide. If you do it straight on a drier, then it takes more time... and probably a different type of resin might work better. What kind of seringes did you use?

The rods are 50cm and longer .
You can try to use automotive spray can paints... they usually hold up pretty darn well!
the coating in 95% of cases will add nothing but some colour and weight to a blank, and nothing else.
Good video for a beginner like me. Thank you.

What type of epoxy your using
Did you watch the video? He shows the bottles at 1:16 😂
When you corrected the threads showing through the guide, did you use the gelled epoxy or mix new epoxy?
It's the same epoxy batch, but it starts to become like a gel when it starts to harden

This was some very old Gutebrod!

It would be great to make a video about epoxy finishing a thinner rod, like Matagi Super Area Sensor UL.
