    This is the best EV swap as a base kit. It's the lightest, cheapest, off the shelf and highest quality you can start with for any kit car swaps. I can see this being the future for 3d printed cars. Just stick on body panels and reuse the tesla interior.

    That rear beams where the whole cradle/EDU is mounted will transfer a lot of bending moment on the rear Y axis chassis frame. That is if the unibody does not structurally tie the rear end to the rest over the B / C pillars.
    I would strongly suggest to you to try and get some official high voltage training. Please always use HV PPE and keep all live terminals of the battery always properly insulated. Not trying to be safety nazi but coming from that industry, shit can go bad quickly.

    I’ve got a Tesla and it has been a great car, but where we live they are everywhere, so it feels a bit boring. I’ve been kicking around buying a classic car and converting it and it seems that one of the trickiest things is figuring out where the batteries go. The most logical place is under the car, which makes me think the most logical type of car to convert would be a body on frame. There are literally millions of Model 3s and Ys on the road, which means all kinds of parts available for cheap, it’s the frame that can support the battery that is the tricky part, which you’ve solved. Do you have any interest in selling just the frame to fit a standard Model 3/Y battery pack and motor(s)? I feel like there’s a business case for it. Just a quick check and the Model 3 wheelbase is 113.2”, a Model Y is 113.8”, while, for example, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air wheelbase is 115”. Seems doable.

    • @519Kustomz
      @519Kustomz  Месяц назад +1

      So far every thing has been built to spec. The next chassis I'm currently working on (corvette) will be more of a candidate for production. The issue with the model 3 pack is the width. Not all chassis can be that wide and still accommodate the stock body mount locations. After I have a good handle on the vette stuff I will try some other platforms for sure.

    What gauge steel do you use for the chassis? I’ve already got a Tesla model 3 dual motor donor car for a 1957 Chevy Belair 4 door sport sedan which I also already have for the swap. What you have done is really the best solution for this sort of conversion. I’m planning on using as much of the Tesla as possible including power steering, Regenerative brakes, motors, penthouse wiring harness and battery pack mounted exactly as you have done it.
    Have you or will you cut out as much weight from the body as you can? Building a chassis is one thing but getting the overall weight down with the classic body is probably the biggest challenge. The other option is to just not worry about the weight, beef up the brakes a bit and drive a bit more mindful of a really heavy car. Been building a new geothermal power station so am now just short of time until the project ends. Should get started on the belair ev conversion project in 2024. Andrew.
