  • Ike & Tina Turner were an American musical duo active during the 1960s and 1970s, consisting of the husband-and-wife team Ike Turner and Tina Turner. Rolling Stone ranked them No. 2 on their list of the 20 Greatest Duos of All Time.
Beginning in 1960, they performed live as the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, supported by Ike Turner's band the Kings of Rhythm and backing vocalists called the Ikettes. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue was regarded as "one of the most potent live acts on the R&B circuit". Their live performances were a musical spectacle in the style of James Brown and the Famous Flames.
The duo's early recordings, which include "A Fool In Love", "It's Gonna Work Out Fine", and "I Idolize You", became high points in the development of soul music. Their later works are noted for interpretive re-arrangements of rock songs such as "Come Together", "Honky Tonk Woman", and "Proud Mary", the latter of which won them a Grammy Award in 1972. The Turners' professional and personal relationship ended in 1976, and their divorce was finalized in 1978.
Ike & Tina Turner were inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. They have two singles inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, "River Deep - Mountain High" and "Proud Mary".

Rest in peace Tina Turner. Strong, smart, independent, and damn sexy. What an incredible human being. Setting a great example of getting away from an abusive relationship and having the courage to go out on her own.

Just watched movie about her (made in ‘93!). She was as transfixing as Elvis as a performer. Totally immersed in music and commanded your attention on the stage.

    The difference:
Ike (thinking he is all that) a boring dead hump of meat. Just sitting and looking as if he is the driving force of this duo. And than there is Tina. A human volcano. More powerful than the sun. Smiling from ear to ear. Loving every split second of what she is doing. SHE is the driving force. Bigger than life. Ike. You lose. Tina wins.
Love you for ever dear dear Tina.

You can still see here on stage thru the performances of Grace Potter, out there on tour right (2024)now kicking ass and not taking numbers. Her rendition of Tina is spot on, especially with this particular song. Strong band presence backs her up as well. get out there, find her, thank her! Cheers Grace and especially you darling Tina.
