Willem Dafoe is one of the few actors who always delivers a great performance. He never disappoints. Why he doesn’t have several Oscars by now is so perplexing. Fans will always appreciate his craft even if the voters for an Oscar perhaps take him for granted....he just makes his characterizations look easy. Hope he teaches Masters Classes to future actors.

The lack of Oscar recognition for Defoe and this film, as a whole, demonstrates that the Oscars are a busted flush. They really have ceased to reward talent and skill. Defoe's performance, and the film, will be remembered by those who saw it and treasured for years to come.
He seems like an all around good guy. And what a trooper. For a director, he is such an important tool, both he and Pattinson, to go through that physicality in The Lighthouse.

I gotta check out this Abel Ferrera film they were talking about. Can totally relate to it already! Willem's best role for me was the bad guy in The Grand Budapest Hotel. He looked so mean and evil, yet his actions were hilarious! I love cats and Jeff Goldblum, but never have I laughed so hard over those death scenes! I don't think there's any other actor that could've pulled that off so well. He's an amazing actor for sure!
I have noticed from various interviews that Willem gets a bit prickly when people try to probe him on his older films. On his WTF Marc Maron interview he actually stopped him (I think when Platoon came up) and got a bit upset that he was asking not enough questions about his newer work. I can imagine it's frustrating as an actor to deal with questions about older movies but it's just interesting to see how differently actors react to those kinds of questions.
