The best actor to not yet win an Oscar hands down.
The fact that he hasn’t won an Oscar is a crime in it self.
After Gary Oldman and Leo got their Oscar, I agree. Dafoe is the next in line for most deserving.
Agreed. Jake Gyllenhaal as well.
Peter o toole. Richard Burton. Heard of these men? Defoe is in big company. Oscar's dont mean anything.
@Masked Movie Man So much better that they don't belong in the same sentence.
Dafoe got snubbed in the oscars so hard for this...
YEEEESSSS TOTALLY
HARK
Now that gary oldman has gotten his oscar, its time to slap a big ol win on this guy. Disgustingly undervalued.
Useless Information
Criminally undervalued. Just saw it yesterday
I like how honest he is with him and Robert’s methods of acting, and not sugar coating it saying, “oh yeah we were good friends and hung out the entire shoot.”
His voice is pure ASMR
Until that damn mic screeches like it does at 2:08
i want him to narrate my life
@@kingcole55 Thank god it was the video. I got paranoid over my laptop.
Get that freak ASMR shit out of here. Seriously it's pathetic. Weirdos having girls whisper them to bed because they can't leave the house and get a girl. Saying it makes them tingle as an excuse. So fucking odd
He won’t stop whistling lol
You can tell that Willem is a genuine, humble, and wise human being with an acting career that is both admirable and impressive.
“He’s got a strong chin. That’s a part of it. Can you imagine anyone with a weak chin ever playing Batman? I don’t think so.” 😂
Michael Keaton?
What time is it?
@@Beraksekebon21 here you go pall 14:18
@@whitehood1e thx
Winston you know your right, but at the same time fuck you
Willem is on FIRE since The Florida Project!!
He's been on fire since Platoon
@@gideonMorrison But I mean he MIGHT get his 3rd straight Oscar nom right now tho
Daniel Victor He’s been on fire since he’s a regular with A24 movies. In those movies you can take him really serious as an actor. He’s one hell of an actor. I hope they cast him as The Joker!
@@gideonMorrison I wouldn't say The Great Wall was exactly a high point, though I'm sure he loved the paycheck
It’s because of A24 man even when they lose they win😂
Can you not love this man?
No you can't make me
Lets talk about the lighthouse
- Eggers is a huge talent
No but lets talk about YOUR performance
- Oh ok thank you
*Showers him with praise*
- Uhhh its a beautiful script.
Hes just extremely naturally humble. Doesnt come off as forced at all, as it does with certain big hollywood celebs
He was very mean to Spider-Man though 😢
He’d be a great Joker to Pattinson’s Batman
He’s Vulko. So not happening but, it’d be cool
Johnny _MP we don’t even know if this Batman is part of the DCEU, just like the new Joker movie, so him being Joker is possible but most likely won’t happen.
TDIReloaded Doesn’t really matter. He won’t play 2 important characters in the DC films universe at the same time either it is or it isn’t.
Johnny _MP Josh Brolin played Thanos and Cable, and Aquaman 2 is planned to be released in 2021 I think. Either way I’d love to see Dafoe as Joker
@@normansmith9009, Cable was a character in a superhero parody that bluntly acknowledged that he plays two distinct comic book characters. Unless Batman will be a parody, that won't work.
Willem Dafoe is one of the few actors who always delivers a great performance. He never disappoints. Why he doesn’t have several Oscars by now is so perplexing. Fans will always appreciate his craft even if the voters for an Oscar perhaps take him for granted....he just makes his characterizations look easy. Hope he teaches Masters Classes to future actors.

THE LIGHTHOUSE
Thank you so much! I'm so excited for this movie!
@@hadeed-_-5678 i know right!!!
Thanks man. Took me a minute to figure out the first movie they were talking about wasn't the Lighthouse. 😂😅
Jor-Els Alexandria THANK U!
thank you
I’m excited to see Robert Eggers direct more movies! He’s one of those promising directors right now.
Witch was the best boring movie I have ever seen. That's not a jab. Almost nothing happens but I could not even blink while watching.
I agree. Right along with Ari Aster
Such a joy to hear Defoe in his own character and so positive and enthusiastic about his craft and industry. Wonderful interview. Thanks for not cutting it up into an Entertainment Tonight quick take. He has a slight, piercing whistle when speaking the letter S. How cute.
Love this comment.
this is such a detailed observation, we're so whipped for Willem Defoe
He has a small space between his front teeth, hence the whistle.
I want Willem to read me Stephen King books every night before I go to bed.
That would be both soothing and terrifying as the same time lol
He actually reads King's novella "The Langoliers" in the audiobook version of "Four Past Midnight". Wonderful reading
@@abalancedbreakfast8558 I had that audio book. Loved it.
This man has such class. What a charismatic presence he radiates
Saw The Lighthouse last night, and what an absolutely amazing work of cinema. Just like The VVitch, you absolutely cannot take your eyes off the screen and the brilliant atmosphere and performances.
It's impossible to hate this guy. He's one of the nicest actors out there
He's such a master. And seems so humble and grounded at the same time. I stand in awe and greatest respect.
Is it just me, or is he the most underrated actor of all time?
Willem Dafoe has quietly been building up one of the best, most prolific filmographies among actors today, and he's still humble and 100% chill. I love this guy.
Always good to see one of our icons shown in a personal way like this. A professional, humble, genius who was clearly put on this earth to do what he does
Thomas Wake: Yer fond of me lobster aint' ye? I seen it - yer fond of me lobster! Say it! Say it. Say it!
Ephraim Winslow: I don't have to say nothin'.
Thomas Wake: Damn ye! Let Neptune strike ye dead Winslow! HAAARK!
Thomas Wake: Hark Triton, hark! Bellow, bid our father the Sea King rise from the depths full foul in his fury! Black waves teeming with salt foam to smother this young mouth with pungent slime, to choke ye, engorging your organs til' ye turn blue and bloated with bilge and brine and can scream no more - only when he, crowned in cockle shells with slitherin' tentacle tail and steaming beard take up his fell be-finned arm, his coral-tine trident screeches banshee-like in the tempest and plunges right through yer gullet, bursting ye - a bulging bladder no more, but a blasted bloody film now and nothing for the harpies and the souls of dead sailors to peck and claw and feed upon only to be lapped up and swallowed by the infinite waters of the Dread Emperor himself - forgotten to any man, to any time, forgotten to any god or devil, forgotten even to the sea, for any stuff for part of Winslow, even any scantling of your soul is Winslow no more, but is now itself the sea!
Ephraim Winslow: Alright, have it your way. I like your cookin'.
I love this scene, somehow the more I think about it the funniest it gets.
i feel like this one of the most epic speeches in movie history
Classic answer to a clearly mad fucker.... Alright..... Have it your way. ;-)
Favourite scene. Hands down.
I couldn't believe what I was watching and hearing with this scene. I was rolling with laughter and awe. Hands down the best old-school ass-chewing I've ever heard
Willem is a national treasure. One of the best ever...
He whistles when he talks lol. I admire his talent and creativity. Great actor.
I noticed that also. He whistles when he speaks..hahahahaahaha
@@uliloquito2387 he's still a g but audio editing must be a pain lol jk. I love his acting. I know I'll be watching a good performance whenever he's on screen.
It’s called a lisp
It's because of the space between his front teeth, it's not a lisp
that person ahead of me is probably right. i got punched square in da teef and now i whistle on most my S’s and can feel the air in my lips by buckteef
I absolutely cannot wait to see the lighthouse.
it was strange and fantastic. Dafoe's best performance ever.
Saw it yesterday, here today. Agree with Scotizzzo on Dafoe. Best-looking film I've seen, fantastic acting, and a bar for future art. I only wish there had been more sea shanties.
Interviewer: so you-
Willem Dafoe: DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IVE SACRIFICED?!
Cant get enough of these two casted together. Not every year movies like this come out.
In another reality Dafoe is the greatest live action Joker
The lack of Oscar recognition for Defoe and this film, as a whole, demonstrates that the Oscars are a busted flush. They really have ceased to reward talent and skill. Defoe's performance, and the film, will be remembered by those who saw it and treasured for years to come.
Shadow of the Vampire is one of the greatest cinematic performances I have ever seen.
Willem was so well-cast in The Lighthouse. He nailed that role.
William Dafoe is such a good person
Remarkably well spoken and self understood human. William Defoe is a legend.
I was absolutely in awe of their performance in The Lighthouse. A Masterpiece! Dark Comedy, a Drama, Horror, and fantasy. Loved it.
Loved him in The Florida Project, great little movie!
He seems like an all around good guy. And what a trooper. For a director, he is such an important tool, both he and Pattinson, to go through that physicality in The Lighthouse.
My favorite performance from him is "Shadow of the vampire"
He was so cool and hot in To Live and Die In LA!
This movie was filmed in my hometown NO JOKE!! Cant wait to see the finished product!!
you're from cape forchu?!

This man is aging well.
I watch him since I was a teen and he didn't change much compared to me.
I have more wrinkles than him
Ya its because of what I call 'Steve Martin syndrome' ie he aged well because hes always looked older lol
He has millions to pay for 💄
@@sergeantbigmac yes! It's a hidden blessing when you look old as hell at a young age. You freeze your looks a lot longer lol
He’s amazing. Such an incredible actor.
The Lighthouse was amazing - Pattinsons performance right up there w Daniel Day Lewis.
What a great interview. Amazing actor with a great host. Asking good questions and respecting Dafoe's space.
You just cannot not love this man
Wow William Dafoe is so delightful on and off the camera. I have to see more of his work.
He looks like Kevin Conroy but sounds like The Joker.
Shit you're right
If you think The Joker sounds like he has nasal congestion all the time then..... sure, Dafoe sounds exactly like The Joker....
The Batman Who Laughs?
I mean.. he looks like the Joker too.
Honestly he would make a great Joker. If they went a comic accurate direction
If J.K Simmons can come back as J.Jonah Jameson, than so can Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn.
MightyGearMally he’s the only acceptable choice. And if I’m not mistaken he has expressed interest in doing it again should the opportunity arise.
Willems hung like a racehorse
J.K. Simmons should come back as Cave Johnson.

Dafoe deserves to win an Oscar for "The Lighthouse"
I am telling you that Robert Eggers is going to be one of the best movie directors ever.
Willem Dafoe is one of those great actors who you study more closely - the mannerisms and body language. There's something really engaging and captivating in the performance and speech.
zXe yes Willem really appreciates the craft of acting. Dafoe is very entertaining actor to watch
True
You know I'm something of a scientist myself.... 😏
Muhammed Yousuf lol "back to formula?"
Out am I?
When he first gassed spiderman why didnt he remove the mask? Why let him go and give him a chance to defeat you?
4:23 shoutout to the interviewer praising Willem.
He just seems very honest. Nothing held back. Simply enjoys his art
Interesting face. Great blue eyes. Interesting bloke. Love Willem.
Finally got to see the film tonight. Absolutely brilliant. Defoe and Pattinson were fucking phenomenal.
I like to watch Dafoe in interviews because I like to see an actualised and integrated human being. He deserves his success and radiates humanity.
He could make anyone want to be an actor because you can see the ART in him.
I love this man.
This movie is what the watcher wants it to be, thats the brilliance of it.
amazing actor.
Great video, love these with willem, amazing actor and person.
A treasure of an actor. One of the greatest of his time.
He’s so underrated.
It was really awkward how Malkin kept asking questions about Ferrara's sobriety when Dafoe clearly did not want to talk about it. And it is overall very rude on Malkin's part to talk about it at all. I am surprised Variety uploaded this, yet at the same time, I am not.
I think it was quite awkward for him to keep bringing it up. I wish he didn’t have to bring it up.
What a film! Outstanding performances from both! Incredible
This movie is amazing with those 2 great actors. Dafoe is a legend.
How can you not love this man ?!
The Lighthouse was insaaaane
48 hours over and over... GOLD!
Favourite actor and lovely guy
Such a warm guy :) great energy !
Wow this is the smiliest interview I've ever seen
Class act. I hope Willem Dafoe gets nominated for The Lighthouse. He is overdue for an Oscar.
Between The Lighthouse and Florida Project it's just insane he didn't win an oscar already.
OMG Lighthouse now! xxxs
Credit to this interviewer, one of the better ones. Complementary but not fawning and furthers the conversation very naturally.
William Dafoe is a delight.
his farts is a delight
His first time was promoting "The Last Temptation of Christ" in '88. It's his best film, Scorsese's best film... how could he forget?! Bah, who cares, the man has such a great filmography. I can't wait for "The Lighthouse"!
Dafoe is one of the greatest actors ever
Love how Williem Dafoe portrays film making.
The Lighthouse is the most Willem Dafoe movie out there and I love it!
Just finished watching the movie about a hour ago , it was amazing feel like i need to watch it again
The lighthouse is one of my top 3 for 2019
YMS Adam gave this movie 10 out of 10 🔥🔥🔥
So you're saying it's on par with Neil Breen? Jackpot!
I agree but i'm scared that you give YMS's opinion any gravity
dude wants to fuck animals stop watching the freak
The replies to this comment are deeply saddening. Dude is one of the only critics on this medium I can take seriously. I used to hate him. Actually paid attention to his style of criticism, and he is very good.
boglin he doesn’t want to fuck animals he wants to fuck the anthropomorphic animals there is a distinct difference. He wants to fuck something that doesn’t exist
He can play everything.Love him at the last temptation. My favorite.

Amazing actor! He's one those great actors who can make a shit movie somewhat watchable because of him.
Love he's continuing to get great material, and getting some recognition he truly deserves.
He's not only a great actor, but he's also intelligent and loves his profession, and he generally seems like a cool guy.
