That shop really put you in a tough spot. You’re trying to be cool and not trash them publicly, HOWEVER, facts are facts. And people value your opinion and learn from your experiences. When the project is wrapped up, I think it’s fair to tell the story and name names in a professional and considerate manner, something of which you are more than capable. Whatever you decide, I’m a fan, I really enjoy your channel, don’t change a thing.

I used to live off my welding skills, but I didn't want to do the complete floor pan on my 105 series Alfa, simply for time reasons.
Gave it to a professional body and restoration shop, together with an excellent replacement floor pan.
It's now in my 2 car garage on a straightening bench, built with 2 mates who work in engineering, I was undoing welds and measuring for months on and off.
Instead of saving a summer of weekend's welding, I'm twice the time and lots of wire and gas into a job I already paid for.

I've had heads machined and they never take the plugs out. I had an engine rebuilt and put back in my car with broken pan bolts, same plugs, leaking old fuel lines, broken timing covers leaking quarts of oil through seals. All because the owner had an unskilled apprentice do the work. I found a crecent wrench in the engine bay. I think very poorly of a mechanic that uses a crecent wrench.

One of the things I've always loved about your build videos is your willingness to be genuinely yourself. The goofy humor is a lot of fun, but it's the high standards you hold that sets you apart. You hold others to the same standards to which you hold yourself, but you give them and yourself the room to grow. These builds are TOUGH. I have poster up in the gym where I train athletes, and in my garage where I wrench. It says, "It's like wrestling a gorilla. You don't stop when you're tired, you stop when the gorilla is tired." You can totally outlast this gorilla, Sarah! We'll be right here with you.

So glad to hear they are making the engine right for you. Oh and the turning of the timing 50 degree past accomplishes a couple of things. No piston is at TDC and the cams will stay in place a bit better also. But with no piston at TDC it won't damage a valve if a cam jumps.

I served in the Navy on submarines working on the UGM-133 TRIDENT II D5 MISSILES, their launcher and fire control systems along with the other subsystems associated with making sure they could launch. It was a very intense job and a lot of attention to detail. I was a QAI for the boat as well as O2 clean certified and I was also the ships calibration officer for all calibration equipment on the boat. Not only that I was the force protection officer and the ship qualification officer. Not to mention Departmental Petty Officer after I rose up in rank from Divisional LPO I was a very busy individual during my 20 years.
As soon as I saw the last episode where they didn't remove the broken head studs, I figured you were going to get a closer look at that engine. No one I know who is so meticulous about ensuring the carpets matches on door panels as well as the floor carpet would ever not investigate deeper down the rabbit hole on an engine with a return to you like that.

I am glad that you showed restraint concerning your engine machining/rebuild and gave the company a chance to make things right. Obviously, the company monitored your progress, expecting a positive shout-out, and probably was dismayed at all the faux pas that you pointed out. Hopefully, they will rise to the challenge and improve their own QA processes. Doing what you did gives the company a chance to improve itself, plus fosters better camaraderie within the industry. You waited 9 months for the engine, what's another month to get it done right? It gives you a chance to focus on the radiator, and the interior, and to gather other parts that you need. Thanks for the video, Keep up the QA.

Your project, your baby and no one else shouldn't say anything about that. Love your passion for your vehicle and you're doing an amazing job of capturing your journey and I appreciate the transparency you convey in your videos. Regarding the 'cam position snapping' mentioned about 3 minutes into the video:
There should be hexes or squares forged into the shafts of the cams that fit a tool which will keep them aligned as you unbolt the caps. Now, no private person doing one engine has these tools. BUT you can take two open-end wrenches, slip them onto these places, and clamp the CRAP out of them with Vice Grips. Works great! I did that on my 1zzfe four-pot head which bears a striking resemblance to a single 2UZ head.

Reputable? Having owned and operated several businesses in my life, I took responsibility for everything that went out the door which meant there was not a detail I hadn't inspected before delivery of, and taking payment from a customer. Owning up to a "mistake" after having been caught, isn't "reputable". Fear of being exposed via social media isn't reputable...IMHO.
