  • Captain Kim Taylor led the mummers in Mohill County Leitrim, Ireland.
Three artists thanks to the Leitrim County Council support have been researching Irish folk associated customs with straw. Straw has been used in customs to do with social reasons and the environment. Tradition of mumming over a time during the Christmas period, did house calls bringing entertainment and hopefully luck. They dress in distinctive straw hats, dance and sing from one house to the next. Artists Edwina Guckian, Brian Mostyn and Fionnuala Maxwell began the project in 2020 during the first lockdown and continuing today.
Kim Taylor, Librarian at Mohill library, was the mummers captain. Kim led her great community of spirited mummers around the town of Mohill, visiting the local nursing home and various pubs. Thanks to these lovely people for letting me tag along and record the great craic that was had by all involved. Kim is already planning for next year, with upskilling of talents.
