The development speed for this project is insane. Keep up the good work! Though if possible, could you fix the crusty looking images in the menu and loading screen? It would really help with the quality of life.
And the old 3ds can't handle a port of GTA 3... Meanwhile, the dreamcast, A 1998 CONSOLE, can run this. The power of good development and heroic programmers like you. This port is a miracle
@@Neutrico88 of course the old 3ds, when it comes to (on paper) specs it can handle without any problem, but on practice old 3ds isn't anything amazing. I think that now, nobody cares about supporting old 3ds because it was replaced with the "New 2ds/3ds" lineup. Old 3ds fans are abandonned actually, a completely shame imo.
3DS is ~Wii level in terms of games. It could absolutely do GTA III, if it has Xenoblade. It's beyond the PSP, and consider what was done with that system. Street Fighter IV wouldn't work so well on a PSP, for instance. It's pretty great on 3DS. San Andreas would be great for 3DS, but it's a large map, so a large cart would be needed. Draw distance is always a concern...
@@joesaiditstrue Of course id does, everything is solid and you can't run over people or damage the car. GTA doesn't look great, but it's doing much more.
Omg this guy is a genius answering age old questions! I actually still have the dreamcast mag somewhere announcing gta 3 for DC ha. Try gran turismo next. I remember a lot of ' could gran turismo 3 run on dreamcast ' debates at the time.
Really looks like in between the ps1 & ps2's performance. Driver2 for the ps1 was incredible in its day. Always wondered if this game could have been on the ps1 if they really wanted
Let's be fair, even in beta, the visual quality of the game rn wouldn't be acceptable for a AAA company like it is for a team of homebrew devs. I'm hoping that's just....being in beta
@@izzyj.1079 Of course. You can see the clouds through the buildings, transparency is broken, etc. But when it's gonna be done, it's gonna be a full AAA GTA 3 experience.
When will they add the Rockstar Games and DMA Design logo videos (as a way of imagining that this version came out before or at the same time as the PS2 version), as well as the intro of the game as such accompanied by that iconic song?
What I wonder all the time when you post updates on the project... is doors being static and not opening part of the optimizations done to get the game running better? Or is this just for the time being?
Actually, I prefer this look to the previous one. This version have a Dreamcast style visual feeling and the PS2 and Xbox lighting feel way less need (at contrary to the PC version who feel incomplete)
Looks like it's coming along well! I do wonder though if the standard Dreamcast controller has enough inputs to properly play this (what with only having one analog stick and two shoulder buttons/triggers)? Or is it being developed for use with a PS2 controller adapter?
It's using re3 which was a reverse engineered version of the PC version but included a lot of fixes and missing features from the PS2 version. Sadly re3 was taken down by Take-Two before the rest of the games could be finished but GTA3 was pretty much done and Vice City was like 95% there.
Sadly i think if now they're "playing" with the game making this stuffs, probaly means that the reach the limit of all what they could do (performance, bugs, effects) with this game on Dreamcast...
if you read the description, he says he's showing this for the exact opposite reason! baked vertex lighting doesn't affect performance in any meaningful way, but he found the flatness of its removal look interesting enough to upload a video because of the beta vibes it gives, that's it!

The initial versions of this port ran rather meh as well.
Don't water down the 3DS, it handles Quake and Half-Life 1 too.
And metal gear solid 3, a good looking dead or alive (Basically a 2,5), the Zelda remake, Resident evil revelation.

I think this version is the best one so far, no weird dark lightning, alright render distance, orignal colors & runs impressive smooth for a DC
Cant wait to play this on my DC,its looking amazing!
This is what you achieve with a lot of dedication to your project
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Viva Dreamcast! Viva Sega!.
i’m more excited for this than gta6 😂
fr
Me too! I never thought we'd see GTA 3 on the dreamcast, I didn't there'd be any interest in working on a project like this
Flat lighting actually makes it look more like a Sega game of that period - just needs a clear blue sky: )
Its Dreamcast... not Saturn era

Much less bugs here, smoother framerate, I wonder if car doors will finally be able to get opened 😆 Looks amazing anyway.

now imagine a GameCube version of GTA III
It was supposed too come out back in the day
The fact that this version already run way better than the New 3DS version is so impressive for me.
The 3DS port was caught in the takedown crossfire so it never got a chance to be worked on as much as this version.
and we still don't have psp port of this game!
@@skinnypotato4452 Yeah it always seemed weird the first few gtas weren't ported for the psp, it was more than possible.

On the PS2 the game can only load eight different types of cars into memory, how is the Dreamcast dealing with this?
